.....................................................................
Full Name: Stephen Vincent Strange M.D.
Code Name: Doctor Strange
Age: Physically his age is 39, but his aging has slowed down considerably since he defeated Death.
Date of Birth: November 18th
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Species: Human
Alliance: Hero (though he has worked with the Avengers several times so he has allegiances there)
Citizenship: Marvel
Canon or Original?: Marvel Canon
"Victory is MINE Baldy!
And if you had any hair I'd take that too!"
And if you had any hair I'd take that too!"
Hair: Short but messy, black/dark brown. When he's feeling dressy he'll slick it back and look rather debonair. At the temples he has two shocks of white hair at his temples that gives him that scholarly look. Also he keeps a finely trimmed goatee framing his mouth.
Eyes: A nice shape, heavy upper lids. They are a cool grey/green color. He also has prominent lower lids and noticeable crows feet and smile lines around his face, though they have stopped deepening.
Height: 6'2
Weight: 180 lbs
Distinguishing Marks: His hands, though repaired, still bear scars of his injury. He could make them go away, but prefers to be reminded. Also the white tufts of hair are pretty recognizable.
Appearance: Stephen is a tall man, slightly formidable in appearance, yet not overly muscular. He takes good care of himself and keeps physically fit. Over a very stressful period of his life, his hair began graying prematurely at the temples. Well it started off normal, but the passing months of stress and anger caused it to gray faster. His hands are large, but with long fingers with excellent dexterity for surgery. He still bears the scars of his accident, though he could make them all vanish. He likes to be reminded. His eyes are a dark green often mistaken for black and for a good portion of his life he didn't smile so frown lines weren't as noticeable. Now he smiles a lot, now he is happy. Also, with the advise of the Ancient, he was able to defeat death, now he ages at an incredibly slow pace.
Face Claim: Johnny Depp
"I'm not interested in making new friends,
I don't even like the ones I have!"
I don't even like the ones I have!"
Likes: He likes practicing medicine and healing people.
Meditating and relaxing, getting his mind in the right place.
Learning more about the strange worlds he's been in contact with.
Collecting oddities, especially of a mystical quality.
Being part of a team, but also having alone time.
Helping others with mystical problems or helping them come to accept themselves, even with their faults as he once did.
Though he has gotten over it for the most part, he loves recognition and prestige.
Dislikes: Failing.
Losing people he cares for, especially if he can't help it.
Dormammu and those who would oppose the sorcerers of the world.
Nightmares.
Bad experiences while meditating.
Not being able to save or even help everyone.
Personality: Stephen is a very even tempered person as of late. He tends to take things in stride and no longer sees the point of panicking (often). This wasn't always how is was though. He used to be a selfish, self serving man interested only in his own success and prestige. He was cold after the loss of so much family. He became distant and alone. Once his true potential was discovered though, and he was offered a family in The Order, he took it.
Now, he is a man who smiles often and worries infrequently. He has a great amount of power, but does not strive for it. It comes when he is ready for it. He has had loves and friends and lost many that he cares for. He doesn't like that at all, especially in situations where he cannot stop it from happening. Though he has resolved that there was nothing he could do to save his family, or his lost friends, the guilt still is with him. The desire to save them still there. That's what drives him to do what others can't, to harness the mystic energies that would harm this world and others.
Ultimately, he is bold when there is a need for it and cautious when that is needed instead. He admires bravery and intelligence in others and pushes his allies to strive toward those strengths. He has seen things others could not comprehend and has bettered himself because of them. Stephen is a strong willed individual with strong character as well, it is the reason he was chosen to be Sorcerer Supreme.
"With great power comes great responsibility"
Powers: (Here comes the list)
- "Dr. Strange is as powerful as the god he invokes": Stephen is a conduit of mystical energies and can absorb seemingly limitless amounts of mystical power into himself. Over his time being part of the Order and Sorcerer Supreme (I'm gonna start calling it SS) he has made many alliances and enemies, these relationships have allowed him access to powers no one else has ever known. It is a power that seems to be unique to Stephen, at least at the capacity he has it.
- Flying: Strange can fly with or without the cape of levitation (though he often wears the cape to complete the 'mystical look'. Plus it's become rather trademarked to him).
- Spells and Incantations: Being SS comes with certain knowledge of mystical abilities. Among these include mystical: bolts, binds, slashes, shields and discharges of energy.
- Other Abilities: Transmutation of matter, telepathy and telekinesis, casting illusions and seeing through others, invisibility, astral projection (when this happens he levitates off the ground and gains a wide open third eye in the middle of his forehead), seeing the past or future, intangibility while astral projecting, manipulating dreams, speaking to the spirits of the dead and spiritual entities, removing spirits from people and replacing spirits in people, summoning supernatural beings and the ability to use mystical artifacts.
- Calling the Entities: Stephen can call upon entities for stronger abilities. There is one group that stands out though, the Vistani. There are three of them: Oshtur, Agamotto, and Hoggoth. Though he can call on many others such as the Seraphim, Gaia, Dormammu, Cthon and Satannish.
Certain groups grant different things. The Seraphim grant strength to protective abilities, Ikkon for illusions, Cthon for binding and Agamotto for seeing the truth. - Gift of Eternity: Early in his career as SS, Stephen allied with a group of entities that belonged to Eternity. Through them, and defeating Death, he was granted extended life and vitality. He ages slower. Still susceptible to physical forms of death, he is immune to most disease.
- Inter-dimensional Travel: One of the biggest parts of being SS is that you are responsible for the safety of other dimensions as well and ensuring that they do not overlap. Within New York City is a building called Sanctum Sanctorum where all the dimensions meet in one central location. Only the Order has access to them.
Weapons The first three things on this list are specific to being Sorcerer Supreme.
- Eye of Agamotto: A closed eye unless worn by the rightful SS, the center of this necklace is a gray eye when open. It chooses the SS based on who it deems worthy to wield it (much like Mjolnir). It extends his power immensely and allows him to absorb more power. It is what allows inter-dimensional travel, creates a bright light that pierces through deception, and serves as a protective talisman.
- Orb of Agamotto: It allows him to see into any dimension at any moment he wishes.
- Cloak of Levitation: Allows him to fly, though now he is able to without it. It also works in a prehensile way and responds to his desires (think carpet from Aladdin). It also has been used to protect him from physical attacks and appears to be pretty impervious to damage.
- Mist Weapons: He, and all of the Order, have access to weapons made entirely of mist. After becoming the SS, he has never called upon this power.
Strengths/Abilities: Stephen is an excellent surgeon and has a deep knowledge of the human body especially the brain.
He has an incredible knowledge of all things mystical and has made quite the name for himself in mystical circles. He also owns a store for mystical artifacts and other oddities.
He holds no exceptional physical strength, but has an undying need to strive on despite what stands in his way. His willpower and strength of character are impossibly strong.
Weaknesses: He will try to save or help everyone, even if it is not within his power to, he will still try. This can put him in bad situations in fights. He has a very no man left behind mentality.
His friends and those close to him also drive a big weakness of his. Stephen cares deeply for his allies. It can definitely be used against him by those who would stand against him or the order.
Stephen is still very sensitive about the loss of his family all so quickly. Sometimes he is unable to sleep because of the dreams of his loss. Though he doesn't blame himself for them anymore, he still regrets not being able to help.
"All it takes is one bad day to reduce
the sanest man alive to lunacy,"
the sanest man alive to lunacy,"
History: When Stephen was just that, Stephen, he had a loving family. He was the oldest with a middle brother and younger sister. Nothing but loss would strike the happy family though. His parents would be lost to an accident, his brother vanished mysteriously and his sister... His sister had an inoperable brain tumor. Well, Stephen just happened to be finishing out his medical degree with a specialty in neurology and promised he would help her. He didn't. Rather, he couldn't. The tumor was inoperable after all and it was his own ego that wouldn't allow him to see that. He was better than the other doctors, knew more, even though he was barely out of medical school.
With his sister's blood on his hands he began a cold life, distant from others completely. He became an incredibly successful Doctor in New York, specializing in rare cases. Finally, his ego got so bad that if they didn't have good insurance, or couldn't get him on the cover of a medical journal, he wasn't interested. All of this changed very abruptly. He was involved in a very violent car accident that left his hands shattered and useless, inoperable. He spent every penny he had trying to find someone who could save his hands. They just didn't exist. The good Doctor was facing homelessness, bankruptcy, embarrassment, the loss of everything. He climbed onto the Washington Bridge and almost jumped. Something stopped him that day, it felt like a hand on his chest, a vision of a positive impact he could have.
Stephen decided he should live another day. That next day, the last specialist told him there was nothing that could be done for his hands. The secretary of the specialist gave him a note though. It had key on it and read 'I know of a man who can help you, but you must seek him out'. He took the key to the address given where it opened a lock box that had a scroll inside it. It was in Tibet. He collected all his funds and prepared a trip into the frigid cold of the mountains of Tibet.
Finally, he saw it. It stood proud from the sides of several mountains. A city made of marble and jade. He kept climbing to the seemingly floating city. He collapsed into the main room of the temple. His mangled hands were bandaged and the fingers were permanently half curled. A man stood in front of him, another stepping forward menacingly. The man whose back was all he saw, held up a withered old hand telling the man to stop. When Stephen explained his plight, the man turned, not standing but floating. He told Stephen where his room would be and to come back into this room in the morning. His time spent with The Order was quite the task and was impossibly difficult until he gave up. When he gave up the ancient one came to him in a dream, the dream being the day his sister died on his table. When the Ancient One came to him, he explained that the only way he could move forward in life was to realize that nothing he had done would have saved his sister.
Returning to the city with a revitalized outlook on life, he began to excel and heard the twisted plans of a traitor named Baron Mordo. He witnessed an attack on the Ancient One by Mordo and wanted to help, but was laughably outgunned. That was Stephen's first time seeing true magic. The Ancient One defeated Mordo and gained a dedicated student in Stephen. He wanted to be there if the villain ever decided to attack his new friend again. It became quickly obvious that Baron Mordo was fighting the Ancient One for the Eye of Agamotto, to which The AO(tired of writing it) advised that he was never destined to have it. It had chosen another, and his old eyes landed on Stephen.
Stephen trained for years under The AO until he was finally ready to travel to New York again and begin his work as a magical consultant. In those years he had been gone, several superhero teams had come to light. This interested him. He began to do more heroic things under the less than original moniker of 'Doctor Strange'. His charming nature and deep seeded need to help quickly made him a friend of most and an enemy of some. The AO requested he change his residence though, to the Sanctum Sanctorum, the house of all dimensions. He obliged and moved himself into the home in Greenwich Village. That was where he first heard of Dormammu's soon to be attempt on this dimension.
He entered that dimension to try to thwart Dormammu's plans, that didn't work exactly right. Stephen was captured and held until the Mindless Ones attacked Dormammu's (my desire to call him Dormy...) dimension and began killing the denizens. He released Stephen to handle that and was surprised when he saw the soon to be Sorcerer Supereme fighting at his back against the Mindless Ones. When Dormammu asked why, Stephen told him that his job was to protect the dimensions, all of them. That assistance earned Stephen release from Dormammu and a promise from the fire covered creature that he would not attack the Earth dimension, this time.
Things were quiet for a while until Stephen was called to assist The AO in the battle against Shuma-Gorath. When he arrived the beast was using the AO as his vessel and he was projecting astrally to Stephen. Doctor Strange had to kill his mentor and friend to stop the monster from taking over the world as it desired. Tearfully, Stephen did so. When he fell to his knees, having defeated Shuma Gorath's attempt, he held his friend close. The Eye of Agamotto opened and stared up at him. Stephen felt it wrap around his neck and was finally given relief as he watched The AO ascend to be one with Eternity. Strange burned The AO's body himself, as he wished it.
Feeling cold and distant, he left the area now with a beautiful golden collar to add to the eccentric costume. He calmed as he reached his home in New York again and found another old friend there waiting for him by the name of Wong. He had helped Stephen immensely in adapting to the strange new life in Tibet. He welcomed a familiar face and made him a room up in the easily changeable Sanctum Sanctorum. He told him of the loss of The AO and smiled a little at the end, "I guess this means playtime's over, huh?" He asked as he lifted the Eye of Agamotto up to look at it.
"Next time guys, we should just
rebuild this place outta Lego."
rebuild this place outta Lego."
Writing Sample:
(not really a writing sample as much as a funny idea I had) "No, come on, that spell is ridiculous!" Stephen exclaimed, doing something he rarely did, ridiculing someone else. He kept fuming, really kind of mad, this never happened. He was shaking his head; sighing deeply, and looked incredibly frustrated.
Wong smiled softly, watching him quietly, "You know... you can turn stop it." He threw a handful of popcorn at the tv. Wait... popcorn? Tv? "Expecto Patroneum? Wands? Wands, Wong. WANDS! This has nothing to do with magic. This is silly kids in stupid robes playing with sticks."
"I'm through talking, get out of my cave,"
