Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

[atrb=border,0,true] Spider-Woman [style=width:450; height:300; padding:25; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:10px; color:white; overflow:auto] A tall, lean and decidedly busty woman walked from the quarters she had been offered on the helicarrier. She had every intention of going to the gym and working out for a while, to try to stave off some of this anxiety. Intentions weren't worth much though. No, instead she heard something that peaked her interest and she, like any detective, began to investigate. Well, maybe she was being a little nosy because the whispering she heard was about her. She knew that this place was designed to not let people go unnoticed, but she only had to go for a little while. Moving with quiet security she continued across the ceiling of the hall as though it were the floor, listening to those speaking under her.
Tilting her head a bit, she frowned a bit, they weren't saying very nice things. Hadn't even met her and were already badmouthing her. That hardly seemed fair. She moved easily to walk along a thin strip of metal that her adhesive kept her attached to. Her green eyes narrowed, taking note of what the two women looked like where she could hate them as well. Once she knew their names of course. They slipped into a secured area, she didn't have authorization to get in there though so her prowl ended there. Once the hall was clear she dropped down, moving down the hall the way she came, toward the gym again.
Her green eyes flicked up, seeing something in the edges of the wall. Seemed... out of place. "Will the surprises never end?" She whispered softly, her accent distinctly British. Once the area was cleared, the transparent adhesive began to come through her hands again. She climbed up to the area, finding a little... well nest. Everything that was needed to have a nice little view point. Binoculars, enhanced audio and recording equipment. Also... strange, a quiver of arrows? No bow, just a quiver. She looked out to see what it viewed, part of the containment area, most importantly the entrance/exit. "Wonder how many of these little places exist." She mused quietly.
Jessica rested back against the wall in the narrow opening, looking out and around a little bit. Her hands gripped through the wall that framed the... window. Her hands rested flat against the wall as she stepped out into the window, leaning in a way that should not be possible for a human. Jess then pulled herself off the ledge and upward easily, smoothly and silently. "Who or whatever is stowing away up here has a pretty good view." Instantly though, she was suspicious. Who would need to have this view point? With this kind of equipment, weapons... a view of containment and other points of who knows what sort of importance throughout the facility.
Someone bad, that's who.
Her ear twitched a bit, did she hear someone approaching? She turned on the wall to face downward, her hair staying just out of the top line of the open area of the wall.

[atrb=border,0,true] Clint had left his things in his nest for five minutes to get a refill on his thermos of coffee. Oh, hot, sweet java; his lifeblood, his energy, his love forever. Sometimes Clint thought that he should write a love poem to the coffee bean. Unfortunately, his writing skills were terrible, and there was a dark side to this love: If he didn't have his coffee, that would be disaster practically for all that came near him. It wasn't going to be long before he would be back, so he figured that it was alright just to leave everything. Not like someone would steal it. And if they did, they wouldn't get very far with all of it before he came back. He wandered back down the corridor to his nest, sipping the ultra-caffeinated-creamernated joe as slowly as he could. Admittedly his pace was about as sluggish as the drip of the java onto his tongue. Ahh, it felt so good going down his throat, and warmed his body up. It got pretty cold up there in the nest among all the metal. Especially if it was overcast, then the helicarrier didn't get the sun's radiation as much. He was so into his drink and the nice sensation it gave him that he almost didn't notice the odd sounds coming from the top of the ladder. With a start Clint stopped for a minute and analyzed what he was hearing. It was definitely coming from the small sub-level that he called his hideout. Sometimes Clint thought that it had been built especially for him. Something- what, he wasn't exactly sure- was up there. Hopefully it wasn't a mouse, which they did live on the helicarrier; several times Clint had helped out the cook by eradicating them. A couple more times he had killed them as they had run across the floor of the bridge. Mice annoyed him to death, and were so dirty! But as he got to the top of the ladder, he realized that the noises were something characteristic of a bigger organism- homo sapien. Who dared invade Clint's hole? Someone that had a lot of daring. That was for sure. And one who could climb fairly easily.
An unfamiliar face greeted him when he came up over the edge, that of a woman, about- ten years younger than him? She must be new to the helicarrier. If she wasn't Clint would have seen her before. A recruit for the Avengers, perhaps? She was pretty, long, dark brown hair framing a pair of green eyes. Despite his initial attraction Clint knew that it didn't mean anything. So, he kept on his guard for any sign of agression. "What are you doing up here?" He started with a simple question. Non-threatening, of course, though his visitor was in a place that he called his own, that didn't mean that he would get all defensive about that. "Not meaning to be an intruder or nosy at all, but if you haven't noticed, this is my little hideaway." Clint gestured to his bow, arrows, and his supplies on the floor next to Jessica's feet. [atrb=border,0,true] Spider-Woman [style=width:450; height:300; padding:25; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:10px; color:white; overflow:auto] Jessica had tried to stay as quiet as she could, but she was still discovered by the owner of this little... nest. Once she saw those baby blues she recognized him. Clint Barton, code name Hawkeye, archer. Now the bow and arrows made sense. A lot of people knew who she was, but even more didn't. She slinked back into the little hole when she was caught. Well, that would be an obvious thing, when she crawled in from the sheer metal wall from the top of the hole instead of the bottom. Her hands were up, to show no aggression. He probably didn't know if she was going to be aggressive that would be where it came from.
"Exploring." Her accent was unmistakeable. Her arms folded across her chest as she stood in front of him. She looked down when he motioned to the bow and arrows on the ground she tilted her head a bit, "Want me to leave then?" She offered, her green eyes flicking over him, not so much checking him out as sizing him up. Her head tilted to the side a little bit, hearing someone speaking softly. She held her finger to her lips and leaned out the little window that viewed the entrance to holding.
Her attention turned away from Clint and toward the people talking. "So, my name is Jessica. A new Avenger, and that blonde woman over there, is planning on breaking into holding. Now, I'm new here, but I'm pretty sure that sort of thing doesn't fly around the helicarrier." A sweet smile came to her lips, eyes lighting up with an honest curiosity as to what exactly the woman could be trying to accomplish by breaking into holding. Her eyes flicked to her wrist, her Skrull detector was still green, she wasn't Skrull, so what was going on?
"I don't know what you normally do, but I'm going to go investigate it." A sort of cheeky smile on her lips as she watched him, wondering what he would do. He was the stay from a far type, you could tell by the bow and arrow. That didn't mean that he wouldn't go and confront this person should need be. |

[atrb=border,0,true] The moment Jessica addressed him, Clint relaxed. At least she really hadn't meant to invade anything, and had just been looking around and gotten interested in the sub-level. It was hard not to, once you realized it was there. "You don't have to leave." Clint shrugged, and stepped closer to the wall to make a little room for her. "I don't entertain guests up here often, but at the same time almost no one notices this hideaway." He noticed her probing gaze, and fought the urge to wilt under it. Sad, but true, he had been so conscious of his self-image since Loki had taken him over that it was scary. If someone even scrutinized one inch of his body, he backed away and hid. Clint was still trying to deal with what he thought of himself now that he had been compromised. He felt dirty, soiled, unable to be trusted. He often wondered if others felt the same way about him. But then her ears picked up something that his did at the exact same moment- the sound of a voice talking in a rushed, hushed tone outside. Clint couldn't pick up exactly what she was saying but he didn't worry about it too much. Conversations like that weren't uncommon on the helicarrier. He had held several in his lifetime. However, she seemed a bit concerned. He couldn't blame her; so he hushed up like he was directed as she leaned out and listened closely. "So, my name is Jessica. A new Avenger, and that blonde woman over there, is planning on breaking into holding. Now, I'm new here, but I'm pretty sure that sort of thing doesn't fly around the helicarrier." "Hey there, Jessica. Glad you've joined the Avengers ranks. We always need new Recruits..." Overcome by curiosity by what she was talking about, he leaned out next to her and cocked an eyebrow at the blonde below. "Yeah, Noo, that kind of thing isn't a good idea around here... If you genuinely think that she is going to go break into somewhere, you're free to go check it out. I'll stay here perhaps. I can see you until you get into the hold, and I'll be able to back you up from up here if you need it."
Clint took another look at the suspected thief. He had never seen her before on the carrier either. This tipped off to him that maybe she did have some dastardly plan up her sleeve like Jessica was saying. Also, the Skrull detector on Jessica's wrist was going berserk. Yes, he had noticed it earlier, and immediately knew what it was. He himself had worn one for a while, when they were causing a bunch of trouble to SHIELD. The fact that it was acting up was quite odd. Unless the heroine herself was Skrull (which Clint doubted very much) that must mean that there was another nearby, and the most likely candidate at the moment was that girl. So he made up his mind to go with her. "Actually, on second thought, I think I'll come with you." He swung back up into his hideaway and grabbed his things. It only took about two seconds to get them strapped on, and then he was right back next at her side. Tags: Jessica :: Spider-Woman Words: 551 Notes: Let's go a Skrull-Huntin' ! [atrb=border,0,true] Spider-Woman [style=width:450; height:300; padding:25; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:10px; color:white; overflow:auto] Jessica noticed the anxiety that flashed in Clint's face and offered him a smile, glancing away from him. The last thing she wanted was to make him uncomfortable in his little area. She glanced back to his face and smiled, "Good, because I didn't really want to leave." She said with a nod. She had flipped through most of the information on the people she would be working with on the helicarrier and Clint's had been a real page turner after the Loki thing. She made a mental note not to use her pheromones around him, he'd be effected too and that wouldn't be good...
She seemed happy enough for her introduction to be taken so easily. "Happy to be welcomed by one of the current Avengers. I'm kind of worried, I haven't worked on a team much." She offered then her attention was pulled back to the woman who was about to hack into the holding area. A slight chuckle came from Jessica when he said that it normally didn't happen. "Alright, well it was nice meeting you." She said with a nod, going to the hole in the wall. She climbed down the metal wall, but his voice stopped her again. She glanced back to him, a smile coming to her lips as she waited for him. She felt oddly safe knowing that he would be there backing up.
Jessica stood up straight, her hands resting on her waist for a moment. There was a quiet crackling when her hands dropped back down to her sides. Between her fingers a brilliant green lightning snapped from thumb to forefinger. "So I heard you're a pretty good shot." She teased a little bit, knowing he was known for his excellent shot. She shifted forward toward the strange woman, her bracelet going absolutely crazy. Her green eyes narrowed sharply as she moved more aggressively toward the other woman now. She hated Skrull more than almost anything in the world. Actually, they were probably in a dead heat with HYDRA. Her eyes flicked back to Clint, wondering if he might be more at ease if he knew that she had been manipulated by a strong power too.
Another time for that though, right now there was a Skurll to catch. She kept moving forward, confidently, careful with her pheromones. Her hand actually dug around in her pocket to find a small vial of the perfume she kept to damper the scents. She tapped it out on her hands. It had a strong, but pleasant smell of flowers and fragrant woods. She put it on just in case she lost control for a moment. The last thing she needed was the helicarrier falling in love with her or something. The lightning cracked between her fingers again, excited and still neon green. Her hands even started getting a green glow around them. She moved around, climbing onto the wall silently. Jess stuck onto the wall, moving over the doorway as the woman got access to holding.
Her long black hair hung down as she watched. Jess's head turned to face Clint, her green eyes conveying her plans some how perfectly. She was going to follow the other woman into holding, make sure she didn't get anything she was looking for. Also she wanted to get the Skrull away from the hub of the people. They were aggressive aliens, strong and aggressive. It could kill a lot of people before it was taken out. |

[atrb=border,0,true] Jessica dropped her guard and relaxed a little, starting to open up a bit more. Clint relaxed the rest of the way, too. "Don't worry, you'll get used to comradeship soon. It's easier when you have others to rely on."
He climbed down the ladder after her, as quietly as he could. He hated to delay her even for a moment, and he felt like a giant next to a ninja, but Jessica didn't seem to mind, and the potential Skrull just went on her merry little way. Well, alright, not so merry, more nervous and shaky. Also, it may not even be a her. The Skrull might be a man for all they knew.
Clint eyed the green lightning but didn't consider it a threat. It must be part of her powers.
"So I heard you're a pretty good shot." "Yes, one of the best in the world." Clint didn't like to elaborate on that fact too much. He was too humble to brag about himself all the time like others did (Wade Wilson, for example). He usually stuck to his standard "Best in the world" and left it at that.
Jessica's Skrull bracelet had energy levels skyrocketing off the charts, which never was a good sign, and Clint slowly, smoothly drew a pistol from his pocket, narrowing his eyes. He probably hated Skrull as much as Jessica did. They were big, ugly, dangerous, and one hell of a good challenge to take out. Yet, they were also the same as any other organism on the face of the Earth and beyond- one good shot to the eye, penetrating deep into the brain, and they were done for.
The vial that Jess took out interested Clint greatly, too. The smell of the oils inside wafted to his nose: it reminded him of a peaceful Spring day back at the military academy back in Kentucky. The flowers in the fields blooming, the trees' leaves rustling. Clint's footfalls on the corrugated aluminum floor were just barely perceptible. Stealth training at the Academy had made him able to stalk anyone, anywhere. Jess didn't need that, though; she climbed the wall like her namesake, the spider. Her powers seemed to get more and more excited as she moved forward; before long she was glowing a 00BF00 Green.
The Skrull slid into holding, and Clint's eyes met Jessica's. The instructions there were so clear, it was like she was telling him all this. He nodded, and pulling a silencer from his pocket Clint slipped it onto the pistol and barely aimed before sending three perfect, silent shots into a control panel about thirty feet away. A few agents that had been getting ready to come through the door that it controlled found that it was stuck fast, banged on it, and called for someone. The rest of the people in the room rushed to help. It was supposed to be a distraction, and it was. Hopefully if the Skrull was to lash out it would be less likely to hurt anyone. Clint would pay the damages for it later, but that didn't matter at the moment. Holding his position Near the door, he motioned Jessica in and kept himself ready for his next move. [atrb=border,0,true] Spider-Woman [style=width:450; height:300; padding:25; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:10px; color:white; overflow:auto] Jessica smiled a bit to Clint, he seemed friendly enough, but she hadn’t heard much in the way of negatives about the bird. Her smile was pleasant and sincere, quite nice in an construction that was so full of seriousness. ”I hope you’re right. I’m coming from a place in my life where I’m not so trusting of people.” Jessica murmured honestly, feeling her arms instinctively going around herself feeling a little exposed by remembering the mind control and lack of choice she had until recently. After they were on their way to the ground floor from Barton’s nest in the wall, she nodded to him, ”Humble too, a rarity in this line of work.” She offered, maybe flirting a small bit, but there would be time for exploring that avenue later if she decided.
Now, there were Skrull fish to fry. The vial was only precautionary; she didn’t want anyone doing something stupid and figured that it might get around the ship too quickly to be quarantined off to a certain area. It wasn’t that kind of power; it was a ‘effect everything in the vicinity’ type of power. It wouldn’t be pretty in these close quarters. At least the perfume smelled good, she had to admit. Jessica was relieved to see that Clint didn’t panic when she climbed onto the wall, she supposed he had seen some strange things at this job, a woman crawling on the ceiling was probably borderline normal by now. Still, she went, silently impressed by his skills, all this and humility too? Seemed too good, the guy had to have his flaws stored away in a dark closet somewhere. Everyone had their skeletons.
Once they were in the room and the door had been sealed, she stopped suddenly… she hadn’t even asked the archer if he knew what a Skrull was; only assumed. Not everyone had faced them after all, though they were more common than she had wished they would be. Too late now, she supposed, watching as the door shut and locked unable to be opened, at least for a little while. She waited, paused on the ceiling for the creature to show its’ true nature. And show it did. Soon the creature’s act as a normal SHIELD agent dropped and its’ height filled the room with its’ size. A bit of a smile touched Jessica’s lips, it seemed out of place. Truth was, she enjoyed putting these aliens down. They had hurt her and those around her enough. Now it was time for them to back off Earth and find a new planet to terrorize. When the Skrull turned to face Clint, she dropped down behind it. A sharp lightning pop between her fingers got its’ attention back as she threw a punch, haloed in green, at its’ face. She was strong, quick, no Black Widow, but still impressive. Definitely some sort of improved human, like Cap almost.
The Skrull lifted a heavy fist up and sent it crashing into Jessica; she managed to dodge it, but not the kick thrown at her abdomen. It launched her back into a center beam that sparked and flared. The beam must have been important because an alarm went off complete with flashing red light.
”We’ve got to move fast, Clint. Sooner they get in here, the sooner this Skrull could get out. Do what you need to. Take it out!” She called down the hall back to Clint before launching forward again, striking the Skrull with an unmatched grace, seeming to remain in midair longer than possible, but she wasn’t, not really. She was moving fast, keeping the back of the beast to Clint as long as she could. It caught her again though at the waist and hurled her back at him, either into him, or into the door, it didn’t really matter to the alien at this point. Either way it was clear that the strength of the grip cracked a rib or two of the Spider Woman.

[atrb=border,0,true] ”I hope you’re right. I’m coming from a place in my life where I’m not so trusting of people.” She wrapped her arms around herself and got a bit of a forlorn look on her face. Clint's face darkened perceptibly. Putting a light hand on her shoulder just before they entered the room, he said seriously, but not as much as he would have liked: "I know how it feels. Trust me." The whole Loki business during the Initiative mission had skewed his view of the world so badly, it was almost embarrassing. He didn't know who to trust, who to look to, who would hurt him or help him. He had even found himself questioning SHIELD. Not a good mess to be getting yourself into. Still, the sharpshooter forged ahead with bravado and guts, meeting every challenge and challenging every doubt determinedly. He was slowly pulling out of his depression, luckily, as time went on. Perhaps in the future he would pursue romance again even. Speaking of romance... Was Jessica flirting with him just a bit? Clint smiled more. That was interesting.
Anyway, enough with that. As they entered the tunnel, Clint nocked an arrow quickly. Detecting a slight hesitation from Jessica, he pulled up underneath and gave a silent thumbs up. Yeah, Skrull weren't new to him. SHIELD had to deal with them before. They were a threat to national security, after all.
There it was, right in front of them. Clint hid in a shadow as it reverted to its true form and spun to face its two assailants. As Jessica moved out, Clint stayed where he was. That was the one thing about him: he was an archer, and always needed time to make that perfect shot at the right moment. She was good at what she did, Clint noted, as she toyed with the Skrull. It would be a bit better of a matchup if they were somewhere non-confined. But, here, the Skrull had the advantage of size and things. In this situation, it was like a spider to a boot. Even if the arachnid escaped, there was bound to be damage.
Spider-Woman got thrown into a pillar, and alarms went off, flashing crimson. This didn't distract the Skrull one bit from his prize. Through the clamor came Jessica's cry: ”We’ve got to move fast, Clint. Sooner they get in here, the sooner this Skrull could get out. Do what you need to. Take it out!” "Yes, m'!" Clint moved out, carefully sidestepping along the wall of the storage facility, being careful not to attract much attention to himself at first. His original plan was to mount the ladder on the other side and shoot from there, but before that, Jess was thrown against the wall for the last time. Clint cringed at the sound of bone cracking. If it set on her one more time, she would be dead meat. Clint had no choice other to rush in and get the Skrull's love. There was a spot in the reptilian-type armor that was weak. Using all his strength to send an arrow flying, Clint managed to pierce it. The alien roared in pain and spun to face the sharpshooter. The beast tried to dash forward and seize his assailant, but Clint was ready with another arrow. This time, it was a pain shot to the eye. The Skrull staggered back, and giving a loud cry, fell to his knees. The Sharpshooter got ready to loose another, but unexpectedly the alien's big hand shot out and caught Clinton on the side. His kevlar vest was totally ripped through, and he could feel the blood dripping down his side. The velocity of the swing sent him in a left direction. Clint hit, rolled, and sent his next arrow into the soft between the heart and the scales.
Clint pumped a few more arrows in, including one in the soft jugular, and he could tell that it was close to death. It writhed around, gradually weakening. Someone would have to put it out of its misery, a task that Clint couldn't do at the moment.
Walking around to Jessica, he offered a hand to help her up. "You alright? It sounded like you got a little beat-up there for a moment." Ignoring his bleeding side, Clint helped hjs friend as much as he could.

[atrb=border,0,true] Spider-Woman [style=width:450; height:300; padding:25; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:10px; color:white; overflow:auto] When she hit the wall, her mind went off the pheromone for a split second. Even the perfume, in this situation, all this adrenaline… it was just barely not enough. A sweet smell seeped into the room. The sort of smell someone could fall in love with. Quickly she shook her head and as quick as the light smell came into the situation, it was gone. She needed to focus, but in this tight of a facility, Clint was right, she was very limited. She went to take a step forward and hissed, holding her side, breathing hurt. After a moment it was as though she had adjusted to the pain. If years of H.Y.D.R.A had done anything for her, it had made her withstand pain well. It was a daily thing there, pain, torture, training, dinner. That was pretty much their daily schedule.
She watched as the archer skillfully sank arrows into all the weak spots of the Skrull. She rested back against the wall, he seemed to be handling himself well. Then she saw the splash of blood. “Bloody hell.” That clichéd British phrase passed through her lips quietly. Despite the injury, Clint continued to shoot and put the creature down. It was breathing still but it was labored and hard. When he came over she took his hand and stood easily. “You’re hurt.” She said softly, an honestly concerned tone to her voice. Jessica was distant, cold sometimes, sarcastic… but she took her team mates seriously, especially when the saved her neck (and were pretty cute). She looked for something that they could apply to his side to help slow the bleeding but the only fabric in here was what they were wearing and the idea of walking out of here without shirt or pants on was not alluring to Spider-Woman. ”Are you going to be alright? That looks pretty bad.” She wasn’t trying to say he couldn’t hold pain, but everyone was different. Maybe, being an archer, he wasn’t used to it.
She looked up at him and smiled softly, ”Your shooting does not disappoint.” Jess said with a nod at the end. Her bright green eyes shut for a moment. She had wondered once, if before she had been put into that evolution machine… had her eyes been brown like her parents? The color seemed almost unnatural to her, like a mutation brought on by the spider prowess. The color her lightning was, or that cartoon color of poison. Her eyes were nearly lime green when you got close enough to them. The weird part was, she wasn’t a mutant. Her genetics had been altered by her father and H.Y.D.R.A. She was human, yet not. Suddenly, something occurred to her… well two things actually. One was that she hadn’t let go of Clint’s hand yet, the other was that the breathing in the room had shifted.
Quite suddenly she pulled Clint toward her, then painfully moved in front of him. ”I hope your boots have rubber soles.” She teased a little as her hands held out to the side. The Skrull had attempted one more bold move, but was caught in the middle of it. Jessica’s hair blew back a little from the force of her electricity. She held her hands out and the crackling and snapping began. Soon the room was lit up by a brilliant display of vibrant green and yellow lightning. With a sizzle and a pop, the Skrull fell back, it’s breathing had ceased. Her hands dropped to her side, the electricity popping still between her fingers. Her hands smoked a little, that power looked like it hurt some. At least without her suit on it did a little. As the Skrull fell the door was finally opened into the room. ”He needs to go to the infirmary.” She said to the men and her next step she nearly fell to her knees, ”Me too.” |

[atrb=border,0,true] For a second, Clint caught a whiff of a scent so unlike anything he had smelled in his life. The first thing that came to his mind was the scent of laughing gas, but in a moment he rejected that. Definitely not standard issue chemical weapon. Actually, perhaps the closest thing he had smelled to it was his mom's perfume. Clint couldn't be completely sure though, since she was a distant memory, and he regarded what little notions of her remained with so much hatred and disgust that it tainted everything. After a second of puzzling out where the source was, Clint came to the stark realization that the only thing- a someone- it could be coming from was Jessica... the perfume, whatever it was, was so sickly sweet, yet luringly attractive. He felt that if he had been exposed to it for another minute or so he would have woken up to find himself making out with her (disturbing! Just kidding). Yet she seemed to have it under control, because the next minute it was gone.
“You’re hurt. Are you going to be alright? That looks pretty bad.” Her minute-long, fruitless search for something to wrap it up with got Clint looking around too, but he couldn't come up with anything either. Goddamn it, he had left his pack back up in the roost. if he had brought it with him, he would have a tourniquet to use. But naah, he had thought he wouldn't need it and mindlessly left it behind. Jessica was in pain, he knew, though she hid it well. It made Clint feel pretty guilty that he had so stupidly... oh, he could bash on himself for hours. Off of that rant. "Don't worry about me. I'm pretty much used to it by now, as well as great big welts on my head from where Natasha's kicked or punched me multiple times." The mention of his coworker made him smile a bit.
Usually compliments on his archery skills were taken with grace and humbleness, but for some reason Jessica's made him swell up with pride. "Thanks. I tend to perform better under pressure." The last minute had definitely been a pressure situation. A friend hurt, one giant Skrull in the room, and a whole heck of a lot that could have happened to him. Pressure did make him better; that's why some said that he performed his worst after he joined SHIELD. He didn't have constant pressure behind him to perform his best. All that came to him was from himself. "You're a great fighter, yourself. I'm sure that you'll make a wonderful Avenger." Clint offered as a return compliment. At that moment he realized that her grip on his hand had strengthened, and he hadn't let go either. Next thing he knew, they were close and there was a fireworks display showing- in more ways than one. For a moment, he couldn't say anything. (Clint could feel the surprised burn in his cheeks, but fortunately he managed to force it down quite quickly.) Then he coughed. "Yeah. I do. Have rubber soles, that is." Yes, the question had been rhetorical, and it was a bit of an awkward moment. (Wait, it hadn't really been a question!)
He was almost angry and sad when the soldiers started pouring in, inspecting the Skrull's dead form and offering medical help. Clint had been starting to like this little arrangement. If it wasn't for the fact that they were both bleeding and broken... "Take her first, I'll be fine. It's just a surface wound." Clint loosened his grip on Jessica's hand as his vision began to fog up from lack of blood. A soldier handed him a towel, and he pressed it to his side, as one came to grab Spider-Woman. Clint was too proud to be supported all the way there, so he simply followed the soldiers all the way to the infirmary.
