Roy William Harper, Jr.
You feel like a candle in a hurricane, just like a picture with a broken frame. Alone and helpless, like you've lost you're fight. But you'll be alright, you'll be alright. Cause when push comes to shove you taste what you're made of. You might bend til you break cause it's all you can take. On your knees you look up decide you've had enough. You get mad, you get strong, wipe your hands, shake it off, then you stand.

While his muscular physique might not be incredibly bulging compared to the likes of some heroes such as Superman, it's a rare occasion to find another civilian with a physique like his own. He is built. Six pack, large biceps, etc. He is a muscular person. Roy has almond shaped blue eyes that almost always portray his emotions. He has red hair which he keeps short and a little bit ruffled. He keeps his face clear and clean shaven. He has straight-laced looks and his face portrays emotion rather well. As if any emotion is intensified on his face. Roy also has many scars on his body, though none are immediately noticeable or notable other than the six gun shot wounds on his chest. Face Claim: Matt Lauria
"I’m not interested in making new friends,
I don’t even like the ones I have”
I don’t even like the ones I have”
Likes: Above all else, Roy loves his daughter Lian. She is the most important thing in the world to him. He also loves archery and making and designing new arrows which he kept doing long after he quit the super hero game. He also loves being a hero. Knowing he's doing something big like that, that he's helping people and making a difference is huge to him. He also loves to help people hence why he became a counselor. Roy also likes women, flirting, sex and foreplay a lot. He can be quite the philanthropist. Of course, he also likes playfully flirting with others without much seriousness or actual intent to do anything. He is also loves giving nicknames to others. Roy also likes people. He also has a deep love for motorcycles and cool jackets. He enjoys various kinds of rock and bands like Aerosmith, Rascal Flatts, Poison, the Beatles and Bon Jovi. He is also a big fan of doing whats right. He also likes video games and sports. Particularly he likes basketball. He also has a sense of humor and loves a good joke.
Dislikes: Roy hates drugs. Drugs ruined so much of his life and a lot of bad things that happened to him would not of happened if it weren't for the heroine. He also can't stand pretentious people. Roy also has a deep dislike for Oliver Queen, Dinah Lance and Hal Jordan. This is because he feels as if the three of them had been like family to him and then right when the going got tough they betrayed him and practically left him for dead. This dislike goes so deep that he can sometimes let it blind him. Roy also doesn't like criminals. Sure spray painting or something of the sort he'll turn his head the other way and if it's good he might even complement on it. But when it comes to thieving or anything of the sort he gives a thumbs down. Roy also doesn't like buses. He also hates being in tight, enclosed spaces, though he's not claustrophobic. Roy also hates being threatened, even more than normal people might be. He also has a deep dislike for being told what to do, especially by someone who has wronged him. For example, if Oliver Queen told him to do something, even if it was for the better, he might just do the opposite or even yell at him. He also despises feeling weak. He also hates loneliness and abandonment more than anything. He believes that hate is not the opposite of love, apathy is.
Personality: Roy is a guy whose been through a lot in his life. He has an addictive personality having fallen into a heroine addiction at one of the lowest points in his life which led to Oliver Green, his ward, disowning him. That wasn't the only thing he became addicted to though. HE also had a severe alcohol problem directly after he was disowned. Not to mention he had relapsed more than a couple times in his life. He also is known to hold severe grudges if he feels what you've done to be have been terrible. For example, he's never rekindled with Oliver Green even after he got clean due to feeling betrayed. He always felt as if he had left him for dead. He also holds a grudge against Hal Jordon and Dinah Lance. While being a ward of Oliver Green, Roy had become very close to both Dinah Lance and Hal Jordan. He looked at Hal as somewhat of an Uncle and though he never had a mother in his life he had always felt that Dinah was the closest thing he had due to her closeness to Oliver which made her a constant reoccurring person in his life. When he was abandoned by Green Arrow neither had helped him. They were the closest thing that he ever had to a family and he felt betrayed by all three of them. The pain of that still hits him hard in the gut every time he thinks about it to this day. The pain of all of that had been so hard on him that he actually tried to commit a variant of suicide by taking on Killer Croc with the intention of letting the villain kill him in the battle. Roy also tends to be a bit of a bad boy, even when he is clean and what not. Roy likes to poke fun at others though he never really tries to hurt them. He tends to do it playfully. He tends to be a womanizer and is known to be quite the ladies man. The most notable time this had hurt him was when he fell in love with villain Chesire and had a passionate moment of sex and a short relationship with her before eventually leaving her due to her complete disregard for human life as well as fearing that associating with her would put her in danger. The result of this later turned out to be Lian Harper, his daughter and lead to him becoming a single father when Chesire left him alone with the baby. Roy can also be rude. He is incredibly arrogant and stubborn. He can even be judgmental towards some people.
While yes, Roy has given up completely on himself before and tried to commit suicide, and yes his philandering ways have left him a lonely twenty-four year old single father and yes, he has an addictive personality that got him in trouble with heroine and ruined a large portion of his life as well as his 'family' and yes, he can be rude, judgmental, arrogant, stubborn, cocky, has a short temper with most people and can hold a grudge for seven years, but he is still not a bad person. On the contrary, Roy is a very good person, albeit flawed, who always wants and tries to do what's right. But he makes mistakes. He doesn't always know what's best and his arrogance and stubbornness can blind him from what's right in front of him. It is this arrogance and stubbornness that stopped him from accepting an invitation to join the Justice League because he didn't want to due to Oliver, Dinah and Hal all being a part of the Justice League. Roy loves his daughter more than anything. She is his whole world and he is a damn good father too. He never does anything without thinking of Lian first. It is because of Lian that he stopped crime fighting, which he loved more than anything other than her, as he felt that being a parent was a full-time job and being a crime-fighter would put her in too much danger. Was it selfish to put his duty as a father above his duty as a crime-fighter? Perhaps. But he's more of a father than he is a superhero. Roy has a strong set of morals. He views drugs as bad, even though he can relate to those who are on them. He himself regrets ever using them. Roy is also a good listener. He loves to help others, especially with drug problems. Hence why he became a teen counselor for recovering drug addicts. Roy needs to help in some way. He hates sitting back and doing nothing. Even though it's been four years since he sported his costume, he still feels the urge to put it on and go out every day. He constantly struggles with his priorities. He constantly questions his own judgement because he hasn't exactly made the right choices in life. He takes things to heart and doesn't blame others. He tends to shoulder the blame and it eats him from the inside like when he had screwed up his life with heroine and tried to commit suicide.
"With great power comes great responsibility"
Powers: None. He is a normal human.
Weapons As Arsenal, Roy uses a customized, high tech collapsible bow with standard arrows and trick arrows, many of which he designs and creates himself. Some of his most notable arrows are his explosive arrows, smoke arrows, electric arrows, grappling arrows, zip-line arrows, EMP arrows, tranquilizer arrows, flash arrows, stun arrows, knock out gas arrows, tear gas arrows, high-density polyurethane foam arrows, taser arrows, Greek fire arrows, supersonic arrows, magnetic arrows, harpoon arrows, incendiary arrows, flare arrows, fire extinguisher arrow, dry-ice arrow, tracker arrows, flare arrows, net arrows and acid arrows. He also has two knives as well as a collapsible sword. Should he take the anti-hero route he will also carry handguns and ammo.
Strengths/Abilities:
Master Marksman: Roy has incredible speed and accuracy with a bow. This is not only shown in archery but also when he uses a gun.
Acrobatics: Roy has shown on many occasions that he is a very good acrobatic.
Martial Arts Master: Roy is arguably one of the best fighters on the planet. He has trained under Dinah "Black Canary" Lance, Oliver "Green Arrow" Queen and Hal "Green Lantern" Jordan. He is trained in a large variety of martial arts and is a threat to be reckoned with. His mentor Green Arrow is a Martial Arts Master and passed on all of his martial arts knowledge to him while he was his protege. He was also trained by Black Canary who is arguably the best fighter on the planet. Not to mention he was trained in boxing by Hal Jordan. He is a master of Moo Gi Kong a weapon-based Korean martial art. This means that he is able to use practically anything be it a bow, a sword, a paper clip, a pen, etc as a deadly weapon. Those post-its he's playing with? Yeah. He can kill you with them if he chose to.
Making Arrows: Roy has shown himself to be more than competent at creating arrows and actually loves doing so. In fact, even after he stopped his superhero gig cold turkey, he continued to make them as a hobby.
Investigation: Roy was trained by the CBI in investigation and he has keen analytically and deductive skills.
Weaknesses: Roy has an addictive personality and has relapsed and began using heroine again several times in his life. He also tends to put Lian above everything else and his love for his daughter could easily be exploited. Also his sheer stubbornness and arrogance can easily blind him, especially if Oliver, Dinah or Hal are involved in the situation. Not to mention his biggest weakness: He's human. Not just the obvious he can die and get shot or whatever. He has no metahuman powers. No impenetrable skin. Nothing. He was human. Which meant he could make mistakes, and he makes a lot of them. Part of this is because he doesn't trust his own judgement. He doesn't believe in himself. He can't. Not after all the bad decisions and wrong turns he had made in life.
"All it takes is one bad day to reduce
the sanest man alive to lunacy,"
the sanest man alive to lunacy,"
History: Roy doesn't remember his mother. In fact he doesn't even know her name or her story. She could have died in child birth. She could have left his father. His father might have been married to her. He didn't know anything about her. He didn't really remember his father all that well either. But he knew plenty about him. He had died saving a tribe of Navajo Indians during wildfire in a forest where he was a forest ranger. Out of gratitude, Brave Bow, the shaman of the Navajo reservation, adopted Roy Harper Jr. as his own and raised him as a traditional Navajo and treated as a member of the 'Tachini' tribe. Brave Bow spotted in Roy an early talent for archery and began to train him under his wing. Growing up, however, Roy didn't make many friends as he was out-casted for being different from everyone else on the reservation. With a lot of time on his hands and no friends, Roy spent his days training and honing his archery skills eventually getting to the point of having the skill of someone twice his own age. After the debut of Green Arrow, Roy idealized the masked hero and trained even harder as he avidly followed his hero's exploits. When Green Arrow visited the reservation in order to judge an archery contest Harper was participating in, eager Roy did his best to impress his hero, and succeeded in doing so. However, in the final elimination of the tournament Harper was given a magnetized arrow and missed his last shot. Soon after when a robbery took place in which both he and the Green Arrow were present, Roy was faster than even Green Arrow himself when he pulled out his arrow and shot the robber.
With Brave Bow dying, Roy would need a new ward, a position Oliver was glad to uphold. Roy was overcome with everything. He went from the out-casted archer with down to earth origins to the ward of one of the richest and most famous men on the planet seemingly overnight. He was now training with the Green Arrow. He had money. He could actually afford things. Video games, anything. It was all so much. Not to mention all of that alongside Brave Bow's death. Brave Bow. the man who had adopted him. raised him as his own. He was gone and he felt he was being ungrateful for everything he now had after he was gone. But none of it could replace the man who raised him. So instead of sitting in the lap of luxury and enjoying himself, Roy dove straight into his trained and he trained intensively. Even once Green Arrow had given him the okay to go up to bed and Oliver had finished, Roy kept practicing. He was continuously exposed to Hal Jordan and Dinah Lance both of whom trained him. He soon came to think of them as if they were family. Oliver was the closest thing he had to a father. And Dinah was what he figured it would be like to have a mother. Hal was like having a cool older brother who was way, way older than him or rather a really cool uncle. Soon after becoming Speedy, Roy help find the original incarnation of the Teen Titans alongside Dick "Robin" Grayson, Wally "Kid Flash" West, Donna "Wondergirl" Troy and Garth a.k.a Aqualad. He stayed with them for a long time, developing a semi-serious relationship with teammate Wondergirl. He liked to playfully tease his teammates during his original Teen Titan run. Unfortunately tragedy struck when Roy was seventeen and had been with the Teen Titans and Oliver for five years. Oliver lost much of his fortune and underwent a personal crisis. Oliver abandoned his ward to stay with the Teen Titans while he traveled the world with Hal and Dinah. Soon after his relationship with Donna failed to get past the "Teen Sweetheart' level and after a five year relationship they broke up shortly before the original Teen Titans dissolved and disbanded.
Speedy felt increasingly rootless, lonesome and abandoned. He and Donna were over. The Teen Titan's had dissolved. Oliver, Hal and Dinah were gone. Brave Bow was gone so there was nothing to return to on the reservation. Loneliness overcame him like a hell he had never known and he slowly sunk deeper into depression until he became addicted to heroine. When Oliver learned of his addiction rather than comfort or support him, he kicked him out after delivering a nasty punch. Seventeen and alone on the streets with no money, a heroine addiction and no dignity, Roy wandered for days. Weeks from place to place with nothing left for him. Hal and Dinah never came. He became increasingly bitter, spiteful and self-loathing having completely given up on himself. He couldn't even look at his reflection in the puddles as he disgusted himself. Not only was he addicted to heroine, but now he was also addicted to alcohol and was a thief having to steal to get buy. Not just to feed himself, but to support not one, but now two addictions. He was a disgrace. Eventually he gave up on life and tried to commit a variant of suicide. He attacked Killer Croc with the intention of letting the criminal kill him. However, Killer Croc realized this and felt killing him wasn't worth it if he was going to just let him do it. He wasn't going to assist him in committing suicide. He told him to clean up. He acted as if he weren't worth killing. But he was the first person to acknowledge to Roy that he was alive. That he at least was in some way not worthless. He began to clean himself up and checked himself into rehab.
Once he was out of rehab and he was eighteen, Roy created the identity of Red Arrow and fought as a solo hero and began to attend teen group counselling to help him from relapsing as he was still having trouble due to his depression. He was put on pills for clinical depression by the people in the rehabilitation center he had been in. Immediately after his release from rehab, Roy came crawling back to Oliver who was now living in Seattle with Dinah, however, he was turned away. Roy relapsed quite a few time over the following six months, however soon he found he was going longer and longer without drugs or alcohol and by the time he was nineteen and a half he realized he was a year clean. Due to his connections to the underground drug world, Roy was sought out by the CBI or the Central Bureau of Investigation, a clandestine government agency largely concerned with drug trafficking and terrorism. The CBI trained him in investigation and undercover work. He worked with them for awhile, however this ended after he was sent to gain the trust of sociopathic criminal Chesire whom he fell in love with and they shared a passionate moment which led to sex. Red Arrow cared too much for Chesire though and couldn't bring himself to turn her in; However, he was worried that his continued presence would endanger her. That worry combined with his growing misgivings over Cheshire's disregard for life caused Roy to leave her, unaware she was pregnant with his child. Roy quit the CBI after the incident with Chesire and returned to his solo work as Red Arrow. No longer a member of the CBI and still estranged from Oliver Queen, Roy struggled for some time to find his place in the world. He helped out the newest incarnation of the Teen Titans and even rekindled his and Donna's relationship, however, this quickly ended after he found she was going through an identity crisis of her own. Nevertheless, he remained good friends with her. Helping the Teen Titans on one mission he was shot six times in the chest and was sidelined from superhero activities for quite some time. Soon after his recovery though he learned of his and Chesire's baby and with the help of his old teammate and friend Nightwing attempted to stop her from assassinating a group of diplomats. Roy failed to catch her as she poisoned him and left him with their daughter, Lian Harper. Roy was rushed to the hospital where he survived the poisoning and Nightwing gave him Lian. Roy took on the responsibilities of a single father and after much thinking, decided to put away the costume at twenty-one years old deeming it too dangerous a life and believed raising Lian to be a full-time job. Not to mention he had spent more time in a hospital bed than anywhere else over the past year. He couldn't bring his daughter into that.
He took on various jobs while raising Lian though he never donned the costume again. He thought about doing it everyday but he didn't. That didn't stop him from the occasional heroic act though. One day he pushed a woman out of the way of a car and got hit himself surviving with minor cuts and bruises though the doctors said if he hadn't pushed the woman out of the way she would have lost her unborn child. Then there was the time a thief stole a woman's pocketbook on the street and he chased down the crook and held him down until officers arrived. Not to mention the time he stopped a bank robbery when he was held hostage. then there was the time the man was trying to sexually attack a woman in an alleyway and he stopped that. Numerous things like that happened every now and again over the next four years. When he was twenty-one he became a teen counselor for recovering teen drug addicts, a job he still has. He was asked to join a new group of Teen Titans, though he declined. He was taken aback by the colliding of the worlds. He figured all the new villains would be quite the bother. Even if they got new heroes now as well. In fact, the heroes might pose a bit of a problem as well. It was all very complicated, but as long as they stayed away from his Lian they could do whatever they wanted, those new heroes.
