Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

It was ironic really, she thought as she staggered down the stairs, a young child on her hip and a bag of his mother's jewelery in the other hand. She had only been trying to rob them of a bit of gold and diamonds and she had ended up saving their little brat. It was their own fault for leaving a young kid, barely five, at home alone. Stupid shitty parents. In her arms the boy slumped sideways and she cursed loudly, dropping the jewels and carrying him bridal style in both arms. She needed to get them out of the building before the fire spread and covered all the exits, she really didn't fancy burning to death. Smoke was filling her lungs and she gave a hacking cough, eyes streaming with tears as they burned in the hot air. She turned sharply at the bottom of the stairs and, using her body to cover the child as best she could, darted past the entrance to the kitchen where the main blaze was located. Flames shot out of the door and licked over her skin, burning her body and singing her clothes. But she ignored the pain and ran on to the back of the house, raising one leg and kicking the door down.
They burst out into the cool night air to hear the sound of fire engines racing around the corner towards the house. Arizona dropped the kid to the cool, damp grass, kneeling down and shaking him. 'Come on kid, I didn't drag you out of the fucking house for you to die here...' After a few seconds of shaking and Arizona pressing his face to the wet ground he spluttered back into life, coughing violently. She gave a hoarse sigh of her own and stood, patting him on the back and walking away. 'They'll find you soon, dollface, don't worry' And without looking back she limped away into the night.
Half an hour later found her in a park, hunched over a public water fountain. She had drunk until her throat was starting to feel normal again and was now trying to wash some of the soot and ash off her face. The burns were on her legs and arms and were a swollen, shiny red, but they would heal soon so there wasn't much point trying to deal with them. Seeing that not much more was going to come off she hobbled away to sit on a bench, under one of the sickly yellow spotlights. She smelled of smoke, and rubble and burned skin and clothes. Her body was grimy and around her far too bright eyes was an inflamed red from the smoke. She flicked her tongue over her chapped lips and leaned back, sighing heavily. Why did this kind of shit always happen to her?

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,426,true] | [atrb=background,http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x126/Gotta_love_gits/Sinestro/random%20images/greenmiddle.png] Sinestro had become aware of a small fire in a residential district, and had gone to deal with the situation himself. He was on patrol, after all, and it wasn’t just crime that kept a Green Lantern busy. He was supposed to be there to help with any situation, at any given time. But he imagined it wasn’t always his top priority, especially with thoughts of finishing off Death still floating through his mind. It had been a long time, but he had not stopped thinking about the woman, or what she had done to him. What she had tried to do to his friends. He wanted to see her suffer before she died.
But that would have to wait- the fire was right in front of him and that was more important than plotting the demise of someone he didn’t even know how to locate. She would appear when she was ready for round two.
And he would be ready, as well.
He hadn’t actually moved in to save the day, though he had arrived at the scene of the fire. There was a woman inside the building- he could read her life signs on his ring. She seemed to be saving the only other living being in the building, two energy signatures moving within the burning building. Though he might have been help to them, he was curious to see who was already there ahead of him, and decided to watch as she moved through the house to get out the door. It looked like she had been carrying something else. Jewelry? He arched an eyebrow, his mind working through the possibilities.
When she left the boy in the grass and made her escape, Sinestro followed her, keeping to the air with the glow around him minimal. It would keep him from being spotted until he wanted to be seen. A situation that appeared when she was taking a moment to hydrate herself. He took the opportunity to land, smiling faintly as he looked at the strange woman. It wasn’t someone he knew, but he didn’t feel too much of a need to be worried- he was Sinestro, after all.
“That was quite a heroic act back there,” he commented, “saving that child from the fire. But I have to wonder what you were doing in someone else’s house. Perhaps you were the one that started the blaze?” His voice was challenging, like he was waiting for her to either protect, or run the hell away from him. Really, though, he liked when they stayed. Humans were funny when they thought they could hold a candle to him.
He smiled at her, but there was nothing kind about it.

Arizona heard the voice from nearby and tensed up, ready to spring into action. Slowly she turned to face whoever had spoken, his appearance came as a bit of a surprise, red skin, pointy ears.. this guy really had it going for him. She ran her own bright eyes over him, he looked pretty dangerous, anyone who could sneak up on her life that generally was. She had never seen someone like him before, but she had heard whispers about the people with the strange coloured skin and she was no stranger to mutants. Her body relaxed and she raised an eyebrow at him, a devilish grin spreading across her face. Ohh, he cared about the fire, one of the good guys apparently. She just about managed to stop herself rolling her eyes, what an idiot. He clearly knew she'd been involved, probably having followed her, and what kind of arsonist sets fire to the building they are in, then saves the little brat inside? Stupid good guys, never could think things through properly. 'Sorry dollface, I'm not your guy. When I feel like a little light hearted arson, I make sure I don't have to rescue anyone. I also tend not to set fire to the buildings I'm trying to steal from.' Her voice was blunt, a cold tinge to her lazy East London drawl, but that smile remained firmly in place. Ahh she wasn't going to lie, it wasn't like she had a better reason for being in their house, and she was hardly stealing from the poor, the mum had several thousand dollars worth of gold and diamonds stashed away. 'Why don't you have a seat, darling...What's your name? That's a mighty fine skin colour you got going...' Arizona had the sense she was either going to walk away from this encounter relatively unharmed, or in a body bag. The latter didn't seem like a very positive outcome. She was pretty much winging it and hoping the strange guy could be hurt by knives. She wasn't very hopeful.

She hadn’t followed his train of thought, but he supposed that was to be expected. Humans were notoriously stupid, and the ones that took to stealing even more so. The way she spoke, he wasn’t even sure she had finished whatever limited schooling humans gave their young. In any case, she didn’t seem to get that he hadn’t been implying that she had started the fire on purpose.
“It’s really quite interesting that you would admit to being a thief to me, despite my never having mentioned it,” he mused, “considering I am a member of the Justice League and all, I can’t say that was the smartest choice you’ve made this evening.” But he didn’t make any move to arrest her, floating nearer the bench and parking himself on it beside her. He had no reason to think his skills were going to be needed to arrest someone who was nothing more than a petty thief. Anyway- she hadn’t actually taken anything, it seemed, and she had saved the child from the fire. It felt like the good out weighed the bad in this situation. A more moral hero, like Superman, might have thought she needed to be turned in, but Sinestro was far from that version of moral.
He didn’t care about failed attempts.
“I am Sinestro,” he informed her rather proudly, “and, yes, I suppose my skin color is a bit different from the humans around here- I’m not local.” He was from a planet millions of miles away. That was definitely not local.
“You’re looking about my color in some places,” he observed as he looked her over, “it seems you have some rather bad burns on you. Shouldn’t you go to the hospital or something?” He had his ring to heal him, usually, and was never one to enjoy hospital stays. But she looked human enough. It was probably better for her to get burns checked out, especially since he knew first hand how easily they could get infected. But she didn’t seem too concerned. Actually, she didn’t seem too concerned about a lot of things.
That interested him.

She shrugged light heartedly and rolled her shoulder's back, hearing them crack loudly and giving a relieved sigh. So he wasn't implying she's started the fire, fine by her, cause she hadn't so...Well she was the good guy in this particular scenario. 'Yeah, I'm a thief, but you knew I'd saved the kid, knew enough to question why I was in the house...Let's face it, I don't look part of their pretty little family.' She bared her teeth, not in a menacing way, more of to indicate their pointed sharpness. 'And anyway, I saved the kid, I didn't start the fire and ok, I was stealing, so I could...you know, eat tonight... Doesn't matter where you're from darling or what super fantastic boy band hero group you're from, look at you. Either I walk away or I'm dead. I can't fight you.' She watched him sit down next to her and gave him another friendly smile, he seemed nice, if a bit weird. She chuckled softly and ran her still damp hands over the burns they stung and she breathed in sharply, but even as she watched some of the red started to fade. Slowly but surely they were healing, not that the deeper ones were going to fade any time soon, at least a few hours. Leaving the burns she raised her hands to reach into her jacket pocket, pulling out a cigarette and fumbling for her lighter in her shorts, quietly thanking god they were both ok. She lit up and spoke again. Hmm.. I guessed, I'm not local either, but I think you're from somewhere a bit further than London?' She raised an eyebrow then gave him a little wave. 'Nyx, nice to meet you. The burns? Nah they'll heal up quick enough, give me a few hours and I'll be alright. Cigarette?'

Still, he imagined she didn’t need him saying it- she had already come to that conclusion herself. Maybe she wasn’t as stupid as he had first thought, and rather, was simply more aware of when it was useless to hide things from someone. She seemed aware that he could snap her off to jail in an instant if he wanted to, and beyond flying he hadn’t even shown her what he could do. Did he know of Green Lanterns? Or did she just assume anyone who could fly was more than a match for her?
Either way, he was glad he wasn’t going to have to smear her across the pavement- he was enjoying his little chat from her.
When she looked down at her burns, his eyes followed her gaze, where he was surprised to see her wounds were already starting to heal. So perhaps she wasn’t so weak after all. Even with her unusual looks, he hadn’t expected her to have an ability like accelerated healing. She was getting more interesting to him by the second. Mutants had not been as hugely noticeable before the worlds had merged. Now, however, they seemed to be everywhere. Was she another one? Or was she the result of something else?
He wanted to know.
When she offered him a cigarette, he accepted. While he hadn’t smoked anything from earth, he had been to plenty of planets where such a thing had been a part of their customs. “Yes, a bit further,” he replied, “I’m from Korugar- a planet about an eternity away from here.” He used his ring to light the cigarette, a construct lighter producing a green flame that lit the end as regular fire would.
“Nyx? That’s an interesting name. Does it mean anything?”

She rolled her eyes as he told her how powerful he was, but it was in an amused way, rather than a rude and exasperated way. She wasn't bothered that he was more powerful than her, cause you know, at least she wasn't bright red... Also, it wasn't exactly unusual for her to run into stronger people than her, she was a changed human and sure she was strong, but it was all relative. She handed over the cigarette, a little surprised, he didn't look like the kind of guy to smoke, but then again she had just met him. She watched him light the fag with a ring. Her eyebrows raised and she just stared for a few seconds. He lit the cigarette with his fucking ring. She had heard of people like him, she didn't know what they were but...well she'd heard of them. 'Well that's pretty jazzy...' She muttered and licked her lips, looking over him once more as he spoke about his home planet. 'Why here? This stinking little planet and why bloody America??' She snorted and her mouth curled up in slight distaste, god she missed Britain sometimes. She gave a long laugh as he asked about her name, biting her lip and shaking her head slightly as she giggled to herself. 'Well...It's obviously not my real name. I...got away and needed to change my name, disapear. I needed a new name and I thought I'd choose something random, that couldn't be traced. People assume its for the Greek personification of night and darkness. It's not, it's for the make up company that my mother used to use...

It’s not exactly the planet I would have picked, had I a choice in the matter.” Not that he could pick his own world, since he’d been banished from it, but still. He wasn’t exactly pleased to be working on a back water world like earth, either. He sighed lowly, arching an eyebrow at her connected questions. It didn’t seem like she was too much of a fan of America.
“I don’t work just here,” he replied easily enough, “my ring is capable of traveling from planet to planet in hours and days, so getting from one side of this world to the other is easy and takes me no time at all. I could be anywhere on this planet in a matter of minutes.” He shrugged his shoulders, thinking it was really no big deal. Protecting the whole planet was nothing to someone who actually had to look after a whole sector full of worlds. It was more annoying to him that he had little time to protect the rest of his sector while he was on earth researching the recent anomalies. But he didn’t mind too much- he still did get out every once and awhile. He wasn’t trapped there.
That really would have annoyed him.
“Are you not a fan of America, then?” He asked after a moment, watching her, “so why are you here? Is it also part of your starting over deal?” He imagined if she had already changed her name, moving locations wasn’t much of a stretch, either. He was amused by the name and its simple meaning- at least she had been honest about that. Leaning back, he took a moment to rub his leg, which was hurting again, and smiled thoughtfully.
“Most people think my name is some kind of play on your work for ‘sinister’, but it is simply my last name. I did not know if was close to a human word when I was born into my family, or that it would fit me for a while with that kind of connotation.”

Arizona leaned over and gently tapped her fag on the edge of the bench, tipping the ash off onto the floor, it was one of her many habits. She stared at him in something that would have been awe on most people's faces, but came across as slight suprise on her's. How lucky to be able to flit between planets as though going to the shops. To be free to disappear from the world with a tiny ring and travel away from your troubles. She would have been jealous if she wasn't grateful for not looking quite as odd as he did. She could barely stand being stuck in one state, or even in one town in one state. It was why she was constantly moving, treking or hitchhiking or whatever it took to keep on running from the last place. She looked up, making eye contact and giving a weary smile. 'Oh I wish...I moved here before any of...' She gesutred to her face in disgust, showing him her teeth and nails again, before shrugging lightly. 'Daddy was an American buisness man and we moved back when I was 16. I lost everything, my friends, my home, then later the Governement stole my humanity. So nah, I don't really like America, but I'm stuck here. She rolled her eyes and leaned back closing her eyes and running her dirty hands over her face, it wasn't really a conversation she enjoyed having with people, her past was dead to the world. Arizona Knight had been declared dead, it was Experiment 221, commonly known as Nyx that was left.
She opened one eye and laughed slightly as he said something about his own name. 'Unfortunate coincidence and all that?...Ahh well I guess it works when you're trying to intimidate someone? She grinned up at him, he really was an odd one.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,426,true] | [atrb=background,http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x126/Gotta_love_gits/Sinestro/random%20images/greenmiddle.png] So it seemed she wasn’t too impressed with his powers, but he didn’t mind- he certainly liked them. He could make a day trio out of flying halfway across the universe to see his home planet- he could go to Korugar in an instant if he so desired. Too bad he was banned from that planet, though.
Going home was not a real option for him. All he could do was slip down into his base beneath the planet and watch his people from a distance.
He would likely never be treated as one of them again.
But it seemed she wasn’t entirely indifferent to having things rough herself, what with her body looking different from a human’s in some ways. She was probably someone who had been through a hell of a lot. They had some things in common, then.
Sinestro chuckled. “I don’t need a frightening name to intimidate people,” he remarked with a gruff grunt, as though he was insulted by the thought of that being the only reason he could frighten someone. As if! He was a former yellow lantern- a former master of fear. And while those days were falling increasingly further behind him, he didn’t think he was that out of touch with his darker side just yet. But he also knew she hadn’t meant any harm with her comment. He was just getting his panties in a bunch because of his own thoughts, not het light-hearted comment.
When he finished the cigarette, he got himself slowly to his feet, ignoring the pain in his leg as he straightened himself up and offered the woman a hand.
“Do you feel like visiting your former home?” He asked after a moment, though he offered her no look of kindness of even a smile. All he did was watch her, expectant eyes looking for a quick answer. “I could take you there if you wanted. You would be able to look around and enjoy yourself, and I could bring you back when you’ve had enough. It really isn’t trouble for someone like me.” He had already bragged about his ring, but he liked to make sure it was clear. Anyway, he was offering to do something nice for her, wasn’t he? He could go visit where ever she wanted to go, whenever she wanted to go there. They weren’t friends, true, but he was bored and it beat going back to his base and dealing with the red lantern he had taken captive.
“Even if nothing of your past is there, it still might be nice to revisit.”

She watched him as he seemed to go over what she had said and responded. She was relaxed around him, more so than with other people, because they were a threat and while it was certainly true that he could kill her in a heartbeat, he hadn't so far. Arizona wasn't one to blindly put faith in people, but she was one to understand how people and...well whatever he was, worked. It seemed unlikely he was going to kill her now but it wouldn't really matter if he did, there wouldn't be much she could do to stop it. She stubbed out the fag on the damp bench an dropped it to the floor, crushing it beneath her feet just in case and looked up in surprise as he rose and offered her a hand. For a moment her eyebrow's rose and she stared at him. Her eyes were running over his body again, analyzing everything, mind working through the offer. It was once in a lifetime, it was perfect, it was everything she'd dreamed about for the last few years. How could she possibly say no? His eyes were blank, empty of emotion. It was creepy to most, but Arizona had got used to it a while ago, the smiles that didn't reach her eyes and even if they did there was a deadness behind it. She stood up, taking his hand. 'You...You're seriously offering this to me? Because if you are...I'm indebted to you forever...'

Did she think that something in his body language was going to hint that he might be lying to her or trying to pull some kind of trick on her? If she was looking for some kind of sign, she wasn’t going to find anything in his movements. He was well trained, and he gave nothing away even when he was trying to lie to someone. When someone wore a skin tight suit that left precious little to the imagination, it was in his best interest to make sure his body didn’t betray him in any measure. But this time, it had nothing to do with his skills or the fact that he was a rock of some great merit. Actually, it was simply because he wasn’t trying to mess with her. His offer was just as it had come across, no strings attached.
So he had nothing to hide.
He still had his hand extended, simply waiting for her to take hold of it so they could be off. But it seemed she needed some time to process what he had said to her. In truth, it was probably a lot for a human to take in, even one who seemed to have had a bit of a history to her. Sinestro didn’t mind if she needed to think it over- it wasn’t like he had anything better to do with his time, anyway.
She finally spoke, but it seemed like she was still a little hesitant. Still, it was clear she did want to go, at least. Good thing he hadn’t failed to read the mood correctly, then. Sometimes he did things for people and they didn’t really appreciate it.
“You don’t need to speak of debt,” Sinestro said with a shrug of his shoulders, “I am simply flying from one place to another- it is not that big a deal. Consider it a thank you for that cigarette, if it will help you even the score.” He didn’t want to take her because he wanted to hold it over her head- he just thought it might be something she wanted. Apparently good guys did that kind of thing. They helped people just because they wanted something.
He could do that too, couldn’t he?
