That's right, Sinestro. You're catching on. Fate thought to himself. He could tell that the alien was just a little bit shaken up about the whole vision thing. Now, imagine that running through your head constantly. I think you'd go mad. Most did. It was how so many had met their downfall. They had stared into the stream of the future unprotected. Fate was protected by Nabu himself. The only other wizard with the discipline necessary to handle the visions. The only one still living, at least. The wizard Shazam may have been able to control his mind when glimpsing the future, but his physical body had died many years ago. His spirit lived on. Fate often came into contact with it. Shazam was like a magical pen friend to him.
"You misunderstand how the visions work." Fate began to elaborate. "Anyone receiving the visions sees fate through the eyes of the bearer of this." he tapped the helmet, and it made a slight dinging sound. "The Helmet of Nabu. They too will be unable to see their fate. Why do you ask?" His next question couldn't hurt. Not for asking. "Did you see our fate?"

“I see…” Sinestro said. It made sense that it had only been an extension of Fate’s power and not him granting any kind of similar power, however temporary. It was just like if he were to make a ring for someone. The ring would have all the same powers, but the charge would be limited, and the ring wouldn’t be theirs. It would still be Sinestro’s. His power.
He looked at the man when he asked about his fate, tilting his head slightly to one side. So he really couldn’t see his own future. How unfortunate. To know the supposed fate of everyone, and not his own. Perhaps that was what made the power a double edged sword. Not that Sinestro had ever been interested in knowing his own fate- he already knew what was going to happen to him. The same thing that happened to most Green Lanterns. He would die, likely in battle, and his ring would find a new host to call master. Everyone was replaced.
It wasn’t like he thought there would be some glorious future for him. Not anymore.
“No,” he replied faintly, “I guess I didn’t see your fate, either. But if you were only sharing your power, that makes sense.” He frowned. “Do you really want to know your future? What if I were to wear that helmet? Would I be able to see it for you, then, or would it be too much for me?” He didn’t know the limits of the power this man seemed to hold, or what it might do to him if he tried to use it himself. Still, he felt he would be remiss if he didn’t at least ask if he could help this guy, if he did indeed want to know his own fate.
Even if he was a jerk, he was trying to help, wasn’t he? Then Sinestro owed him the same kind of snotty help in return.

"Would that be wise?" Fate had already seen this moment. He had a suspicion that Sinestro had as well, when he was experiencing the visions of the future. "Greater men have tried to control the power of the Helmet of Nabu, and alter their fate. They have all failed. They went mad with power. They could not handle the visions the helmet gave them. And if they could, they were driven mad trying to find their fate among the masses." Driven mad by trying to find the one thing the helmet could not give them. The one thing they wanted the most: a good fate.
"Perhaps you are able to control it, Thaal Sinestro. Perhaps not. We forsee great things for you, but the Helmet of Nabu is not among them." He didn't know whether that was due to the restrictions on seeing the helmet's fate or whether Sinestro was genuinely not going to wield the helmet for himself, he did not know. "But we do know this. This meeting is not the last we will see of each other. Know that, in this time of crisis, the universe needs heroes. We agree that we all have a part to play in this tapestry."

“Greater men? Tch,” Sinestro would have to try and let that one slide, if only because he knew Fate was only trying to warn him about the dangers of the helmet. It seemed a challenge, trying to take control of that, though he had no interest in what seemed to drive so many insane. He had to wonder how so many were even able to take the helmet in the first place. Had it been when the helmet was unowned? There was a lot of history he knew nothing about, but maybe none of that mattered. “As you may have already guessed, I care little about seeing my ‘fate’ and I know already that fate can be changed. I don’t need to see changes to know my fate is in my hands, and no one else’s.”
He smiled faintly to himself, though he still had a faint desire to see the helmet and its true power. Call him a sucker for learning- and maybe a sucker for power. He liked to experience things, and learn from them.
A weakness or a strength, it was hard to know.
“Very well, Fate, I will not fight you for that helmet of yours- I’ll just have to assume it’s for the best. And if we do meet again, I hope you won’t leave me with such a massive headache.” He brought a hand up, rubbing his temple soothingly.
He was going to need a drink.
