Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

Virgil had been interested in the school for gifted youngsters ever since he had started hearing about it. It wasn’t something that had existed, as far as he knew, prior to everything going pear-shaped, and he was very much intrigued by the whole concept of it. From what he had gathered from his various research, it was a very exclusive, very unique kind of school. Something that you had to fit the bill for, rather than something you could bribe your way into with lots of money. Not that it mattered to him one way or another- he was neither unique, nor loaded with cash. Well, he supposed that wasn’t completely true. At least not the first bit. Truth be told, he WAS special. Controlling electricity didn’t exactly scream ‘normal life’.
But he had heard the school was only for mutants- maybe that meant it was only meant for people who had been born with a genetic differentiation, not those who obtained one later on in life through somewhat unprecedented circumstances.
In any case, he was still eager to check the school out. He just didn’t want do it as a super hero, just to avoid them thinking he was there to pick some kind of a fight. All he wanted to do was take a quick peek of the campus- there was no harm in that, right? Especially if he was in his civvies and not his super awesome Static costume.
With some baggy jeans and an orange and white long sleeve shirt, Static ventured towards the campus. Admittedly, it had taken a while to find the place. He had gotten more than a little lost roaming the streets on his own. Normally he had a much better view from high above the city streets.
Everything looked different from the ground.
But he did find the school eventually, and he managed to slip up to the gate without setting off any kind of alarm. Just how exclusive was the place? Was it going to try and eat his face if he tried to sneak in? Did it have a security system? Virgil knew the answers to none of those questions, and as such probably needed to be careful.
He moved to the gate, peering into the school’s entrance with clear curiosity. If he knew he needed to be careful, he wasn’t doing a very good job of acknowledging his concerns. As he looked at the gate, he used his powers to send a small pulse through to the security lock, deactivating it and allowing him to slip inside without any hassle. At least at that point, anyway. With a smile on his face, he ventured into the campus, heading onto the grounds.
If he could just find someone to talk to, he would be a happy camper.

I still remember the sun Always warm on my back Somehow it seems colder now
Iris spent a lot of her time socializing at the school. She was relatively outgoing, and tried her best to get along with everyone. The mutant girl knew that wasn’t possible, but at least it wouldn’t be due to her being unwilling to be friends. It was more because they were unwilling to be friends, or were just plain mean. Prism wasn’t a huge fan of when people were blatantly rude for no particular reason, and while she didn’t hold it against them, she did find it hard to be around them and continue being her upbeat and nice self. She would still try to be, it just became a little more difficult for her to accomplish it without sounding at least a little annoyed or put off by it.
Anyway, today she wanted to go outside and do something. It was a relatively nice day after all, and the rather bipolar winter had mostly kept her inside for a lack of completely appropriate snow gear. Sure she had a coat, but her snow boots had pretty much worn out, and she hadn’t managed to acquire another pair yet. Let it be known that tennis shoes and snow is one of the worst ideas ever. Nobody likes a shoe full of snow when it is freezing outside. Just how about no, because she would be having none of that nonsense. Today though, it wasn’t cold really, and the snow had mostly melted once again. She was much more content with this weather than the on and off freezing they had been having as of late. Thus she grabbed a red plaid hoodie, and put on some black jeans with her converse before heading out to the campus with a camera in one pocket and her phone in another. Her hair had been turned a sort of faded fuchsia and blue for the moment and was down rather than styled in any sort of way. After all, she did have to make it look almost dyed sometimes otherwise normal people would probably start to get suspicious. Though, she didn’t actually really know any people that were considered normal, so maybe it didn’t matter?
Well, whatever she’d do it regardless just for the sake of somewhat normalcy. Her life was filled with things that were abnormal; if her hair looked a bit faded then maybe she could almost feel normal for a few moments. The feeling wouldn’t last longer than that, but it was something. Iris wandered down from her room and out onto the lawn of the campus. There weren’t many people out and about right at the moment, but that wasn’t really a surprise. It was a nice day, so they probably went out and did stuff rather than staying at the school. It was about then that she spotted a boy she didn’t recognize. She did try to get to know as many as she could at the school, so she figured why not go and say hello? After all, he didn’t particularly look like he was busy nor had somewhere he needed to be. Thus she walked up to him and smiled. ”Hi, I don’t think I’ve seen you around before. I’m Iris.” she said with a bright smile at the boy in front of her.

For a moment, Virgil thought he had been busted. Though he was there to chat with the students, and he was dying to learn more about the school and everything that went on there, he knew he was also probably not supposed to be on campus without some kind of visitors pass or special permission. Since he had nothing of the sort, in the back of his mind he was expecting any one of the kids or teachers roaming around him to sprint over and demand that he hit the road. So, regardless of how happy he was to be there, he was also very nervous. How did people enjoy being sneaky and doing naughty things?
It just gave him heart burn.
Nearly jumping out of his pants, Virgil spun on his heels to face the young girl who had come up to him. All he could do was stare at her at first, as though it had taken him mind extra time to process what she had said to him. But, when things did seem to finally filter through his brain, he relaxed again, offering her a dumb smile and an embarrassed sort of chuckle. She didn’t look like some kind of security guard or even angry when she spoke to him- she was just saying hello. And he was standing there looking like a kid who had got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. So much for his master spy mission. Sighing softly, simply in spite of himself, he extended a hand, his smile widening.
“Hi!” He replied merrily, happy to be talking to someone who looked like she actually went to the school, “I’m Virgil! It’s nice to meet you, Iris! Do you go to this school? I’m, um, curious to find out more about it.” Oh good, now he sounded like some kind of reporter or blogger looking for a story of some kind. He knew this school had plenty of rumors to it, but he also knew better than to believe everything he had heard. Still, that didn’t mean he wasn’t absurdly curious to find out what was true, and if the school had a place for someone who wasn’t born different, but had become so through rather unexpected means. And if it wasn’t what he had heard, hey, at least it was pretty.
“I mean, you know, I kind of want to go here and all that. Not trying to be shady or anything. Not that I thought you would think that! I’m just… uh… I’m going to shut up now.” He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.
He was so much cooler as Static.

I still remember the sun Always warm on my back Somehow it seems colder now
Iris watched as the boy in front of her jumped when she started talking to him. Oops, she hadn’t realized he didn’t hear her and thus apparently scared him. Oh well, a little late for that now, and besides it wasn’t the first time it had happened. Certainly it wouldn’t be the last either. Maybe people just didn’t expect anyone to walk up behind them anymore. Or there was also the possibility that he was staring off into space rather than actually paying attention to his surroundings. That, actually, happened to her quite often so she just smiled in response. Though the staring made her raise a slight eyebrow, but she should probably be used to it. After all, she did have neon hair which was a bit unusual. Thus, she waited for him to give some sort of reply to her statement. She had just said hello, and introduced herself, and thus expected some sort of reply to follow at some point. Though there was also the possibility of him just walking off and ignoring her. That was extraordinarily rude though, and she did hope he wasn’t that type of person. It wouldn’t bother her that much, but still it would mean she had to find someone else to talk to, and it really didn’t look like all that many people were around at the moment.
It seemed though that he wasn’t that type and replied with a hello. Then he stated his name and that it was nice to meet her. The boy also seemed to ask if she went to the school because he was curious. Oh, he didn’t actually go here then? ”Nice to meet you too. Yeah I go to this school.” she said with a smile. She did wonder what sort of things he wanted to know about the school. He didn’t look like he was any older than her, so she really wasn’t suspicious about intentions. Really, she had kind of done the same thing. The girl had looked up as much as she could, and then came to see if she would be accepted to the school. There was probably the possibility that he could be looking for information for the wrong reasons, but kind of doubted it. After all, why walk around in the open if you were up to something? Should the person not be far sneakier, unless he just expected to be able to walk in with nobody spotting him.
Then he started explaining, and seemed almost nervous for some reason. ”You do realize stating you aren’t trying to be shady makes you seem shady right?” she said with a giggle. Then he seemed to just say he was going to shut up now. He seemed, far too nervous about being there to be up to something. One should really try to be much smoother if you’re going to be sneaky. ”What is it you wanted to know?” she asked simply. Hey, she could always choose to just not tell him something if the questions he asked were out of the ordinary. If he wanted to know because he was a mutant, then everything was fine right? Unless he attacked her, she really didn’t see a need to worry about him all that much. What was the harm in answering simple questions after all?

When she made a very important statement, Virgil laughed. "Well... I guess that's true! I didn't think about how shady saying I'm not shady would make me look." He rubbed the back of his head with one hand, laughing dumbly and blushing for his wasted effort. Well, so much for playing it casual. Luckily, she seemed more amused by his stupidity than worried, and it didn't look like she was going to call any kind of security on him or anything like that. He continued to smile, though his awkwardness started to fade as he put his mistake behind him. It was a good thing he hadn't met someone more concerned about stupid teenagers roaming around where they didn't belong.
"Actually, if I'm honest, I'm here because I heard a lot of stuff about this school and I wanted to check it out. Since it didn't even exist before the whole 'two worlds becoming one' thing, I was really surprised when I started to find out about it, you know? We never really had a place for, well, gifted students. Not around these parts, anyway. I wanted to see if the rumors I had heard about the place were really true."
Okay so he had been mostly honest that time. He did want to know about the place, and if the stuff he had heard was true. But it wasn't just picking up a paper and reading about it that had gathered his attention- he had been researching them for a while. Slipping into information banks he probably shouldn't have been hacking into just to find out more about the school. He was sure SHIELD wouldn't be too upset about it- considering how good at hacking he was, they probably wouldn't even know he had been in their system at all. But he didn't think he should be telling her that he had been spying on the school and he wanted to join because he had super powers he wanted to learn more about. He wasn't even sure he could join- he hadn't been born with the powers.
So they might disqualify him. Hence being there to find out.
"Um, so is it true this school is a place for mutants? I mean, you don't have to say anything that might get you in trouble- I don't really know what you can and can't say, since this building isn't from my world... I don't mean to be stepping on toes." Now that part was completely true- he really didn't know what to expect as a reaction. Maybe the whole point was to hide being mutants and live under the guise of a normal school. Honestly, he didn't know.
It would be a shame if he upset her with his quest for knowledge- she seemed really nice, and someone he could be friends with.

Iris smiled a bit when he laughed. Well, at least he wasn’t freaking out or something which would be much more suspicious than actually laughing it off as something dumb to say. It wasn’t an overreaction; it was more a realization that what just came out of your mouth was incredibly dumb. ”Ah well, no harm done at least. Most shady people don’t wander around the school grounds in the middle of the day I imagine.” she noted simply. Well, if it came down to it she could just start screaming, and someone was probably bound to hear her. There was also the fact that she could probably use her powers if it came down to it and then start running, but since he wasn’t posing a threat to her currently, she pushed the thought away. Then he started talking again and she was listening to what he was saying. They didn’t have a place for gifted students before? Oh, well that’s unfortunate, and it would stand to reason they would need one with all the people who had powers running about. Though, then she supposed the issue was that nobody started one, or if they had it hadn’t been known about.
Actually, she wondered idly what he had heard about the school. There were a number of rumors around, but she wondered which ones he had heard. Maybe he heard ones she hadn’t even. Though, she had to say that most of the rumors were along the lines of it being a mutant school. ”What did you want to check out?” she asked him simply with a smile. The girl had heard about the merging of two worlds, and assumed he was from the other world if he was curious. Though, mostly the curious were probably not entirely normal humans. Though there was always the chance that they were villains rather than heroes. Still though, would they likely show up in the middle of the day in normal clothes? That seemed rather odd, and considering he wasn’t very good at being subtle with the whole comment about not being shady. Anyway, she supposed she could try to answer some of his questions as long as they weren’t too prying about anything other than small details. Obviously there would be certain things she couldn’t tell him, but would he even ask about them to begin with?
Then he started talking again and she pondered his questions. Well, at least he wasn’t trying to get her in trouble, which was another point for him just being curious. ”It is a school for gifted students. Gifted can mean a variety of things of course. You interested in enrolling if it is?” she asked simply. The girl wanted to make sure before she flat out spilled the information. There was a sort of secrecy to the school, and she didn’t want to accidentally tell someone who would go tell the entire world. After all, that would ruin things a bit now wouldn’t it? She assumed it was kept a secret for a reason, and didn’t want to accidentally mess that up.

Oh man, he should have given a fake name. Revealing his secret identity wasn't something he was really that keen on. But then, maybe she hadn't even heard of Static, right? It was possible she knew nothing about him, and even if he did show her a little bit of his power. Maybe it would help ease some of the suspicions she might have had about him, and make her feel like he wasn't there as some kind of undercover reporter, spy, or something else entirely evil.
"Yeah, I'm interested in enrolling. I mean, I am for a lot of reasons, but I don't think I'm eligible," he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, "I'm really smart, smarter than your average kid my age, and I'm... kind of gifted in other ways, too. But I guess... you know, about the rumors and if they're try or not... that you have to born with, uh, gifts to be able to enroll here." They both knew he was talking about mutant abilities, but he would keep on calling them gifts if it meant not looking like some kind of threat. Who knows? Maybe someone else who wanted to know about this kind of thing was watching, and they weren't really good at all. It was better to be careful.
"my gifts didn't come from birth... they were kind of shoved on me pretty unexpectedly." He looked around wearily, just to make sure before, moving a hand in front of his body. He opened the hand, his palm up, with two small paperclips sitting right there. He made sure he didn't show off too much of his power, just so he didn't immediately show himself to be an electricity power house. The paperclips sparked and sprang to life, bouncing around on his palm with an electric field around them. It was small and contained, just so any of the other students wandering around didn't see.
Somehow, it felt oddly freeing. He didn't often like telling others about his powers when he wasn't blazing around as Static, but this... this didn't seem so bad. They seemed like they were like him, and it wasn't the same as being an idiot and revealing his powers to someone completely random. Or... maybe he was being a little silly.
He just wanted to feel a bit more accepted. Was he trying too hard?
The paperclips fell back into his hand, and he clasped them, sticking them back in his pocket to use later on if needed. It always made it feel like he was some kind of magician when he used them to show his abilities. Kind of fun. "So, what do you think? I hope I'm in the right place, or that probably totally freaked you out, right?" He laughed lightly, but there was an honest nervousness in his tone.

I still remember the sun Always warm on my back Somehow it seems colder now
It was rather usual for Iris to give her real name rather than her code name. This was especially true if she was just wandering around the campus rather than out and about. To her, there wasn’t much point in a secret identity if you didn’t wear a mask and perpetually had neon colored hair. Sure, she could just make it a normal color for when she was out, but she didn’t like normal colors. The girl did enjoy standing out a bit, and besides even besides that her code name of sorts was Prism. That, sort of, implied that she was a rainbow of colors, and she did try to keep to that rather than normal. Besides, the girl rather liked her actual name, and even if he was sneaking around and spying, what exactly could he gain from knowing her name? Unless he was planning on being a stalker or something, which would be quite strange actually. Though, she did rather hope he wasn’t going to do that. It would be more annoying than anything else.
He started talking again, and heard he was actually interested in enrolling. Well, that was interesting and she honestly hadn’t even expected that. Though she was confused as to why he would think he wasn’t eligible. Then said he was smarter than your average kid, and gifted in other ways. ”Of course I know the rumors. Though I’m not sure what you mean by having to be born with gifts.” she said with a slight shrug. As far as she was concerned if you actually had gifts then why couldn’t you be in the school? Though, it probably depended on the type of gifts you had. If they were the mutant kind, then sure, but otherwise not so much really. He seemed to be looking around as if not wanting someone else to see something, but then he seemed to activate his own powers. Oh, so he was a mutant then actually looking to enroll. That was interesting then, and she’d have to find someone to talk to about that.
Hearing his statement she laughed slightly. ”Yeah, you’re in the right place. Otherwise that probably would have freaked me out. You get used to it around here though.” she stated with a slight smile. There was an extent of surprise one could exhibit before getting used to people with strange powers showing them off on a regular basis. After all, she had been at the school for a number of years now, and so she had gotten used to the powers she saw every day. Actually, when he said he wanted to enroll, she was kind of expecting it from him too, and so just smiled in reply instead of being surprised. Though, if he hadn’t actually been gifted in any way other than being smarter than normal then enrolling probably wouldn’t be the best course of action if she was being honest. Now though, she saw no issue with it, all she had to do was locate someone really.

Virgil laughed. "That's great though! This is kind of the first time I've shown my powers to anyone other than a couple of really close people." Like his dad and Gear. It was difficult, otherwise. he wouldn't tell her about being Static, since he imagined it probably wasn't very interesting for someone who lived in a school full of kids with powers. He just had to know what kind of gifts the other students had. Other students- like he was already a part of the crew!
Though he was feeling more optimistic than he had been sneaking in. "Thanks for being so nice to me," he offered as he thought about it, "I think I kind of spazzed out all over the place, but you were really nice about it! If there's a lot of people like you in this school, then I REALLY want to go here. Believe it or not, I was kind of... a nerd in my old school." Shocking, really, considering how he was totally a super hero and took down bad guys after finishing his homework. Too bad none of the bullies in his old schools knew anything about that, or that might have felt a little less inclined to try and shove his head in a toilet.
How he longed to stick them to the ceiling.
"I'm going to enroll if it's really possible! I guess I was just hooked on the idea that they wouldn't let me join because I wasn't born with a... you know, a gene thing. My powers come from an accident, and I haven't had them very long. A couple of years. I thought this place might be a great way for me to learn about them some more, and figure out if I've missed anything important about them." He wanted to be a real hero, not just a kid playing one. He wanted to feel like one of the big boys. So far, he had managed to stop a lot of baddies, bang babies, and villains, and he had also joined up with the teen titans to help with larger crimes. But it felt like there was more he could do. A guy who could control electricity? Who could heal himself and protect his mind from things like mind control and alteration? There had to be something he could do beyond the basics! He could learn greater control of his powers, too, and maybe even discover some new ones. The whole healing thing had been a bit of a surprise. He had lost an arm once, and found it had attached itself again the next day.
A little trippy to wake up to.
"Do you feel like giving me a tour?" He chuckled lightly, "unless you have class! Oh man, I'm such a nerd. I forgot this is actually a SCHOOL, and not just a fantasy come true." He slapped himself on the forehead, a spark running through his hair and spiking it up without him even realizing it.
Yup, learning more about his powers wouldn't be a bad thing.

Hearing him laugh, Iris smiled a bit. ”That’s understandable, the only ones who know about my powers are the ones at school, or other people with powers I meet while out and about.” she said with a shrug. Not even her parents knew about her powers, but if others had powers they couldn’t exactly think she was a freak without calling themselves a freak too while they were at it. Thus, she was far more comfortable around such people who she knew wouldn’t care, or were used to it rather than your average everyday person. Speaking of powers, she supposed she should probably show him hers while they were on the subject of it. Or maybe he could just ask about it later rather than her just changing hair colors in the middle of a sentence or something. The girl didn’t want to derail his train of thought or something by distracting with pretty colors. Anyway, he was talking again, and thanked her for being so nice to him. Oh, well that was no big deal, she was nice to everyone until they decided to be super mean to her for no reason. ”Of course, I see no need to be blatantly rude on a first meeting.” she stated with a bright smile.
Hearing him talk about him kind of spazzing, she giggled a bit. Ah well, it couldn’t be helped as she did startle him if she remembered correctly. ”Of course, not everyone is as nice all the time, but of course some people are. I never really fit in at my old school either, or at home really.” she said simply. The fact was, she was a mutant, and she fit in better with other mutants or those that had strange or odd abilities. They just, felt more comfortable to be around than the ‘normal’ people who would never understand what it was like to be quite so different. Which, really she was different aside from just the mutant powers as well. This entire conversation she had been seeing varying sizes of yellow waves with light yellow stripes every time he spoke. It wasn’t distracting anymore, like it used to be, but she still acknowledged the existence of them, it would help her remember him better. If she associated people with the color that appeared when they spoke she had an easier time figuring out who was calling her name from behind her, or remembering their name in general.
He seemed very excited about enrolling, and well that was something at least. She’d have to find someone capable of acquiring the paperwork for that, but it wasn’t a big deal. ”You have it now though, and I would think that having the powers would count for more than whether or not you were technically born with them. A lot of us don’t develop them right away even though we were born with them. It varies person to person. This place helps with control and finding new things certainly.” she explained with a smile. When she had arrived, the girl had absolutely no control over her powers and they just seemed to show up whenever they wanted. Now, though, she at least could keep them in check until she was surprised or scared. Hearing his question she smiled slightly, and he seemed to remember that this was a school and she giggled a bit. ”I’m not taking very many classes right now, because I have no idea what I really want to do. I have today off though, so I can give you a tour.” she stated as he seemed to shock his own hair and it stood up causing her to giggle again. ”I suppose we can start outside since we’re already on the grounds.” she stated simply. She’d skip over certain parts until he was enrolled for sure of course, just show him the basics and none of the top secret stuff naturally.
