Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

Odin stood at the edge of the damaged Bifrost, hands wound tightly around Gungnir as he stood, staring into the abyss of the universe around him.
A great many things were on the All-Father's mind. Ever since Thor brought back tales of his great battle in the Midgardian world with Loki and the Chi'Tauri, Odin found it hard to sleep at night. Not that Midgard was readily on the god's mind, but the world had found favor with his favorite son and that meant that Odin could not escape dealing with it any longer.
Besides, it was part of the Nine Realms and that meant that it was linked with Asgard in more ways than one. Certainly, Midgard would become quite intertwined with Asgard now that Thor loved it so. It would also be the target for more of Loki's tricks because of this fact.
But what was most concerning to Odin currently was not the fate of Midgard, but the fate of all the Nine Realms. With Loki's descent into madness and Balder's realization of the truth about himself, the All-Father feared the very thing he had tried to stop at Balder's birth would come to fruition.
Ragnarok. It was unclear to the god whether or not his unruly son knew about the prophecy and how it was related to Balder, but if he did, Loki would surely use it to his advantage if given the chance. Odin could only hope the prophecy was still a mystery to his adopted boy.

I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - she said softly to him and moved around to his side. Her hand again found his arm. This time lower, closer to his wrist. She met her husband's eye. She smiled warmly. "I also know that look. You are troubled husband." She tilted her head. "But of course you would be. Is there anything I can do to ease your mind even if only a moment to see you smile again?"It had been so long it seemed since she had seen his face warm and those lips pulled into the smile that had eventually garnered him her favor. Their marriage like many may have been arranged, but she had come to love and support her husband, though, she knew that Thor had inherited his rocky temper. Yet she was not his wife for anything. She could handle his moods like the shores did the tides. She let them ebb and flow and fought back when she needed. For now she knew she needed to listen to him if he spoke or stand in silent comfort if he didn't. She knew why his mind was so flooded and the gravity of his expression was much. He had a right to worry. Thor's preference for Midgard worried him for many reasons, Loki most prevalent amongst them now. Loki worried him: his anger, his hurt, and now with Balder aware of his parentage--a ruse she herself had aided in to protect her son from the prophecy proclaimed of him--could it mean that Ragnarok was on them? She remembered weaving that tapestry and how her heart ached. Loki, her darling, responsible for the death of her Balder? But she cast that out of mind. Nothing as yet had come to pass on that and for now that was enough. She would aid her husband. And so she did, her gaze unexpecting, but there just like the weight of her hand curled warmly against his arm. He heard her approach from behind him, but Odin didn't turn to meet her. If she wished to speak with him, she would. He had learned over the many years that they had been together that Frigga was nothing if but determined. Once she set her mind to something, little could persuade her otherwise.
And even if she didn't do what she set out to do, her mind was still set on it. It made her a strong leader for their people and a wonderful partner.... But it also made her a difficult wife to handle, especially with the issues they faced now.
It was not lost on Odin how Frigga felt about his decisions regarding their sons and even their grandchildren. But he did not expect her to understand him. He was a king and the protector of Asgard above all else and sometimes those duties involved his family's sacrifices. He wished it wasn't so. He wished that they could live in peace and harmony for all time, but life did not provide him everything that he wished for. It rarely provided him even a few of the things he desired.
But the woman at his side was one of those things. Odin did not understand why Frigga remained with him. He half-expected it might be to appear strong before their people, but she continued to show him love despite all of his actions- actions which she did not always support. Actions which split their family and caused a divide among them.
Odin did not acknowledge her presence except for a relaxation of his arm muscles when she wrapped her own around his. He hadn't realized how tense he must look. But beyond that, he said nothing. He did not answer her questions and did not verbally acknowledge her presence. He just continued to stare into the abyss for quite some time.
But after several long moments of feeling her near to him and knowing that her seemingly never-ending patience kept her close, he let out a slow and deep sigh. Closing his eye and setting his face into a stern expression for a brief moment, he finally released the look in favor of a worn expression. He was tired and old. Odinsleep periods were coming more frequently and soon Thor would have to overtake his throne.
But no one would ever see this part of Odin. No one but Frigga.
"I fear those are in rather short supply lately, my love," he answered her prior question quietly as he turned slightly toward her with his eyes downcast. One of his hands released Gungnir and found hers on his arm. He rested his palm atop hers.
"What brings you to the end of the bifrost this late?"

I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Even if he did not smile, she did. She smiled softly for him as she raised her hand to cradle his cheek. Asgard’s strong king, but her husband. Her weary husband. “It is not a what, my lord, but a who,” her eyes twinkled softly, taking him in. “You bring me here, my love. I have been looking for you, but I should have known you would be here.”She leaned against his shoulder, cheek resting on the armor which was cold, but would warm beneath the touch of her skin. She was stubborn, she would not deny that, but to sit at Odin’s side was that not a wonderful trait, a strong woman to deal with the notions of the strong man at her side? And while it was true, she did not agree with everything he did, what she did know was that she understood. Loki, she knew and maybe Thor at times wondered how she could follow this man century after century, for it was easy to see that it was not just for spectacle. After court was finished, they did not go separate ways or respond to each other with baleful glances. Frigga did love her husband: mulish and grumpy as he could at times. He could be disagreeful and angry. He could do things that made sense to no one, but him, but Frigga understood. He was protecting Asgard in way he felt best. She loved him because she remembered the man she had married and could see him in his eyes whenever Odin looked to her. Strong, humorous, cunning as a fox. He was still her king, the man who had chosen her from amongst her sisters in Vanir to serve as his wife. It was an agreement she never regretted. Her hand for the peace of their races. Her hand for love. She turned her palm over beneath his on his arm and let his fingers fall between hers. She squeezed his hand. “What troubles your mind this late, love?” She was not certain whether she would be granted answer, but she was there for it. To carry part of his burden. They had not gotten through this marriage or serving as Asgard’s leaders because they acted separately. No, they may not have discussed everything, both could act rashly even now as old as they were, but they were partners and Frigga knew she would always be there to help Odin shoulder the darkness as long as their threads remained connected by the Norns and the branches of Yggdrasil. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - you can't choose what stays and what fades away TAG: odin WORDCOUNT:423 SONG:no light, no light by florence + the machine CREDIT:erin aka lowearthorbit @ caution
