Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

Okay guys, so, as I'm sure you can all see, thanks to the release of Version 5, things are a...well, a bit of a mess.
The big issue we're coming away with is the way that they've phased out an entire style of coding; PB currently supports purely CSS but has removed the BBCodes. To make it simple for anyone who isn't familiar with the use of HTML/CSS and other such design based programming/mark-up languages, this poses as a problem. It removes, as you can see, our pretty banner, sidebars, and other such features that were previously integrated.
Over time, Proboards has done exceptionally well at posing problems for anyone attempting to maintain a forum to a fairly high standard - poor Devi's flailing like a beached Magikarp because it's also removed all of our affiliates from the page, and wiped everything done to the very bare bones. We're not convinced we can sort the place out looking nice in a timely fashion, or to a level that we're happy to leave it at.
For that very reason, we're considering something somewhat drastic - but I would like to stress now, just because we're considering it, doesn't mean it will or won't happen; but we would rather keep you guys in the loop now, and have a say. We're considering migrating from Proboards, to Jcink. For anyone who isn't familiar with Jcink, I'll link an example below for you to check out.
Please click here.
What we like about Jcink is how open it is to control, how simple it is to manipulate, that it comes with some pretty neat functions (for example, you can link your accounts under one solitary "parent" account. You then get a drop bar on the top right hand corner, and when you click it, you can scroll through all your registered and linked accounts. It's a brilliant, and yet simple, small tool for those of you with a mass of characters in your control.)
To try and get some idea if it's a good idea or not, we're giving you guys a poll - please, do feel free to reply to this and voice your thoughts and feelings; there's no definite yes or no if we're going to go ahead and migrate, but this is the best chance for you guys to see if it's even worth considering, or if we should stay on Proboards. In the meantime, we're gonna try and tinker more with this place and see if we can make it look nice and pretty without performance issues.

I am okay with moving to jcink, or anywhere WBD goes. One of my favorite features about IF/JCINK is that if you move a thread, you don't have to dig through the archives to find it again because the link you originally bookmarked is no good anymore. Also the mini profile under your avi (if the admin installs one) lets you link right to your plotter and app so it just makes navigating so much easier. Also, there are more things to list in the mini profile- like age, the player's name, and more. Its really nifty those things. We'd lose the bbcode templates (but heck, we've already lost them), but at least navigating around would be that much easier.
And yeah, the scrolling through the accounts feature is awesome too.
I'm guessing we won't be able to transfer our threads there, though. Which is just a bummmer. I'm pretty much for sticking with this board wherever it goes. Really a damn shame proboards lost their damn minds.

This is crappy like whoa, so I'm not against moving. The idea of losing all my posts and boards is REALLY disheartening, but the idea of trying to work around this... shit fest is worse. XD

Personally, I'll be okay with whatever you guys choose to do. But if we do move, will we have to reapply for our characters?

In terms of posts, sadly, we can't save those. What we WOULD do, though, is give you guys a date for the move, so you have a chance to basically close all your open plots during that window. We'll still be able to pull the threads up from here, so you can come back and view them, but it'd at least mean they're closed, so you wouldn't need to copy/paste everything out into a thread for continuation.
As for characters, yes and no - it'd be a copy/paste fest, and basically if you want to drop someone, you just don't have to apply them. You wouldn't need to rewrite your application, just carry them over from here, we'll check the who's who here. If you already had them, job done! If not? We'll review them. It wouldn't be a difficult process, just business as usual.

I've learned to work around v5. Yeah, it has its flaws, as we know, but it can be fun. Jcink isn't my favourite host, because it doesn't allow display name changing, but I can learn to work around it too. I don't wanna leave you guys!

Well, duh, I'd be a part of the Jcink site if we do move. I'm not gonna abandon you guys anytime soon. Just clarifying that before I launch into the main point I have. (Voted, yes) However, being an admin on other sites and working with Proboards V.5 I've actually come to like it. Yes, it's a shame that all the codes were wiped— though it may be helpful to check if they weren't completely, just saved in the headers and footers menu, I think Admin > Structure > Headers and Footers. When one would upgrade manually it saves the old code, on a separate page than the global headers and footers— but most things we can get back. Chatboxes, style boxes, etc. Most style codes in the general board can be made to work by tranferring it to a CSS/HTML type code: [*div style="..."][/*div] (remove stars, of course), though advanced table tags do not work. The old forum banner should be saved as the logo, if one goes to Admin > Themes > Theme Settings > and then in the theme control bar > Images. The plugins are a brand new feature, and I have found that they are easier to manage than just trying to edit the code every time you want a change. To add one, too, is simple— just go Admin > Plugins > Plugin Library > and scroll through pages or search to find the one you want. There is a sidebar redux plugin, created by Proboards admin Brian Ordonez, that can be used to create left or right sidebars. They even have their own headers and footers, just in case you want to put things in between them. I haven't figured out completely how to make the actual sidebar boxes bend to my wishes, but I'm getting close- I know how to code in them. There are other plugins that do the same thing, but I haven't tried any of them yet. This does make me angry in the respect that THEY SAID THAT THIS (involuntary transfer to V.5) WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR. *MAD FACE* *SMOKE RISES OUT OF EARS* If the old header and footer codes are completely gone, then that will make me even angrier. THEY SAID DECEMBER, GODDAMIT. Another thing that kind of ticks me off is the autosave in the Admin area. -_- I think that it's a good feature, but when it fails, like it does sometimes with me, you have to manually save again, and again, and again (if you can) to override the error... Bleh. /irrelevantadminlanguage Also, HOW YOU CAN'T PERMANENTLY DISABLE STANDARD INTERNET MOBILE MODE OR EDIT IT -Worst Pet Peeve about V.5- /rantrantrantrantrant /endrant However. I do have reason to thank this whole transfer mix-up. Until last night I did not fully understand the new login system. And now I do! I'm not going to go into detail, that could be another two thousand word explanation, but it's simple now that I actually am a devoted member and not an admin, for some reason or another. On thar note, has anyone taken into consideration the tiny bar that floats on the bottom right hand side of your screen? If you click the first box, you can link and switch accounts from there, using a single login that involves your email account. I linked all mine least night. Sorry that this is all so technical. XD I am such a nerd. But yes, whichever way this goes, I am totally up for anything. PS. This is Bry, if anyone doesn't know. PSS. Warped and Ripped and Shattered Time are the two V5 Forums I admin. I am putting these up to give you guys a chance to see what V.5 can do- and how good it can look when used right. PSS. The reason I don't really want to leave proboards is because I don't want to leave all our threads.

Bry that would have been soooooo helpful this morning, I figured that good stuff out after I got home from work, but the need for sleep sort of sunk in. Thankies though o.x
Anyway guys, on top of the general good stuff that jcink would let us do, we also wouldn't have to worry about the servers 'being attacked by angry bears' once a week.
And the issue with having to leave our threads behind is what's making us admins hesitant too, now, you can still link back to this site if you want, if you and the person you were threading with are feeling like undertaking a pet project though, you guys could always c/p posts. If you were feeling like doing that.

It'll just be a big headache to move than to learn to cope with v5. Too many posts and threads to just toss aside. Besides I don't think jcink has gotten its issues fixed with going down often. I barely get any server issues with proboards. I was on a site that upgraded to v5 and I got used to v5 that way. It just takes some tinkering around with the coding but you can make this site look amazing again with the layout!

I'm all for moving to jcink, I've done a lot of sites on there, as for all previous threads here. I just plan on talking to the people I was threading with and plotting out how they went so it's all past stuff if and when a new site is made.

In reply to the lost threads I'm more than willing to copy and paste all of them, even if they go in the graves. There has been too many awesome threads that have way too much plot development for all the characters on the board. Our board has been online for a year now, that says something about our members and our threads. We've all created sheer brilliance, and some pretty crazy ideas, that I feel needs to be transferred over. So I, alone, volunteer to copy and paste these things over. I'm on a break after all and while I don't have much time to post actively at the moment, copying and pasting is quick and easy.
Now on to moving the site.
I'm all for it. It seems easier altogether because what proboards has done is just irritating and I'm kinda over it all. That's all I got.

I'm fine with the move. But I know how to skin v5 guys. I have two v5 sites. Though if you guys move after I leave for 8 weeks I am worried I won't have the new URL or get to keep Cassie or Mia. And I really want them. I have 10 days left though.

I'm all good for a move. I prefer those hosts anyways. Though I'm not exactly complaining about v5 visually, other then the templates will have to be recoded regardless. All for a move. As long as the site theme isn't blue over gray or white.

I'm happy with whatever you guys decide. I think with a Jcink controls you talented bunch could create something AMAZING. I've just found there are tons of cool features you can do on there, judging from Jcink sites I've been to and are currently members of. I would ask one thing - could this board be kept open? Or archived? I'd like to be able to move/copy and paste over threads, plot, thread trackers etcs and don't want to lose anything. EDIT: Doh, sorry see this is already being discussed. If that would be okay? On another site I was on moved boards and it was completely fine, thread wise. It was just copy and pasting thread trackers/plots/apps etc. As for actual role playing threads we tended to do a link at the top of the first post saying something like CONTINUING FROM THIS THREAD so you don't have to copy and paste entire threads out or anything.
