Lois hadn't been having much luck lately. Getting attacked, getting attacked, getting attacked and, oh, just to switch things up, getting attacked- it felt like her life was starting to be some kind of kid's comic book. Every day it felt like she was in need of saving from some super hero. How she wouldn't love to just have a normal day, without someone trying to rip her head off or shoot her through with bullets. It certainly made it easy to write for her newspaper, having so much material, but she hardly had the time between all the running and trips to the hospital.
Sighing heavily, Lois finished stuffing what remained of her work into her book bag, slinging it over her shoulder before starting for the elevator. She passed some of her coworkers, waving good bye and shrugging off their invites for drinks and dinner. No, no time boys. She was going to make sure she got home and had a nice meal for a change. Just a nice, relaxing evening with her bare feet kicked up on her coffee table.
Bliss in the making.
The elevator binged at the ground floor, and Lois shuffled out with the rest of the departing crowd, making her way to the exit and slipping out before anyone else could attempt to ask her to do something 'fun'. She'd had enough fun over the past couple of months, now she just wanted to be boring. So she made sure to look around carefully as she moved down the sidewalk, checking for anyone in a suit, with a gun, or glaring from behind a lamp post. She moved quickly, briskly trotting down the street and towards her apartment. Good thing it was fairly close by- she would be there in no time. The late hour and empty streets made it so much easier, too. No bumping through the crowds to get where she wanted to go. All she had to do was keep moving forward.
She crossed the street eagerly, just when her heel decided to give up on life and snap free from the rest of her shoe. With a gasp, she dropped to her knees, knocked off balance by the break. "OH great!" She hissed. Where had she seen this before?
Before she could think about it, she heard the loud screech of a car bursting down the street to her side, zooming right at her with reckless abandon. Clearly, whoever was behind the wheel was either unconscious or completely drunk, as it didn't seem like they had any intention of stopping for the woman trapped in the middle of the road. Though she tried to get to her feet and dive out of the way, she knew she wouldn't be quick enough- there hadn't been enough reaction time for her to move soon enough to escape. She let out a scream as she covered her head and closed her eyes. The only thing she could do was wait for the impact and hope it didn't keep her in the hospital too long.
Oh well. At least it wasn't some super villain trying to kill her, that was almost normal life.
