Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

Mary made it from the bathroom of Danii Washington's apartment back into the hallway before falling face down on to the carpet and laid there for over three hours before she woke up again. Her stomach wasn't settled and the alcohol hadn't completely made it's way out of her system yet but she was awake.
"Danii?!? Danii???" She called out, trying to clear the taste of vomit and cotton from her mouth that had been lingering since she collapsed. And she was alone. With a broken hand that caused her to scream in mortal agony when she pushed herself from the carpet the wrong way. Danii had left the building and left Mary with a roll of paper towel to clean up her mess, which she did after getting to her feet. Slowly but surely.
She had clearly blown it like never before. Not only betrayed her best friend's trust but more than likely had lost that best friend forever. She'd never speak to her again, Mary was certain. If she were in Danii's place, she wouldn't talk to her again either but the point was moot now.. She couldn't stay. She had to get out, clear her head and think about all of this. Then she'd be back to pack.
First and foremost she needed to go see a doctor. Why pay for one of those out of her pocket when her medical expenses are covered but the government. After punching a wall and paying a heavy price she was in need of first aid. Time to go pay Zara a visit. A cast would be helpful. Driving was out of the question until she had one in her opinion when she could fly just as easily.
Slowly locking up and making her way down the stairs so as not to make the noise indoors, it was to the sidewalk for her.
"Shazam!"
The thunder rolled, the lightning flashed and Mary Marvel, Maiden of might was airborne and on her way to the helicarrier where she summoned the lightning yet again, and Mary Bromfield headed for Dr. O'Riley's office whom would no doubt have questions that Mary wasn't feeling eager to answer just yet but she'd willingly sacrifice the comfort for the cast. Still slightly drunk and getting the headaches that come with hangovers as it set in, maybe talking about it would help. Or not. Again, small price to pay regardless as she knocked on the doctor's door with her good hand.

It had been one hell of a day. Zara had stepped away from her own department after getting too frustrated with some of her colleagues. She had gladly taken refuge in with the tech scientists and spent a good amount of time learning mechanics. However she was regretting it now because there was a pile of work in her own department that needed doing. Zara had swept it all up and gone into her office.
That had been two hours ago and she had only just finished up what she needed. By the looks of it, at least she would be getting home today. Then she heard the knock on the door and the doctor looked up. Glancing down at her watch she noticed them time and frowned. Most of her lot would have clocked off by now. Zara got up from her seat, the white coat billowing out slightly as she went and opened the office door.
”Hello Mary.” Zara greeted the girl. Mary was a SHIELD agent. Out on the field and not in the labs. She was surprised to see her here. Agents weren’t sent down to them unless Fury had told them to go and not many chose to be down here out of free will. They had much more interesting things to be doing. ”Come in. Can I help you?” Zara asked. She had turned away and was walking back to her desk.

The question begged to be asked. Can things possibly get more awkward or any weirder? The doctor had the appearance of a woman who was ready to pack it in, call it a day and go home. Mary on the other hand, her headache had worsened but the magical effects of a little time in Marvel form had finished driving the alcohol out of her Mary Bromfield's system. Hangover was fully in place to replace the drunkenness. Sour stomach, weakened and tired legs and an aching head. It was also her day off and the doctor looked to be quite surprised to see her. No backing out now.
Zara and Mary did not work in the same circles but Mary had spent a time or two having lunch with the good doctor in the carrier's dining facility. She seemed nice enough and the fleeting Moments of conversation they shared had been enjoyable.
"I certainly hope so doctor. Lord knows someone needs to." She murmured, still standing in the doorway and using the most polite sounding tone she could muster under the circumstances. "I think I just broke my left hand and wrist. Made the mistake of trying to punch out a wall, among other mistakes..." She added, letting her voice fade while she looked around then caught her breath to speak again. "Sorry if I came at a bad time. Don't really have many options. I will probably be sleeping on the carrier so i figured I'd see if you could make a cast for me and kill two birds with one stone."

At the words ‘broke my left hand and wrist’ Zara took a detour from her desk and moved off towards the back cabinets. She crouched down pulling things out of the bottom before straightening up. She continued to listen to Mary. Zara turned to look at the woman and shook her head. ”Come in and sit yourself down so I can take a look at your hand. You won’t be of much use if it’s defect.” Zara told her gently. ”Do you want to tell me what the wall did to deserve a punch?” She was trying to make the situation a little lighter.
”And you haven’t come at a bad time. I just finished up some paperwork.” Zara jerked her head in the direction of the desk. The stack was sitting neatly with her pawprints all over it. She desperately wanted to take a look at Mary’s hand wanting to get it into a cast as soon as possible if he was broken. X ray first to see the damage done. If was bad she may need a shot of pain relief before hand.
”What do you mean you’ll be sleeping on the hellicarrier?” Zara asked looking to her with concern. No one chose to spend extra time here if they could avoid it. They all spent enough time here. Zara only stayed because there was nothing better to do with her life, and even then she was only staying if the work was enough to keep her preoccupied.

"I think I can still be plenty of use even with a bad hand." She suggested, humbly nodding and walking inside at Zara's urging. "It's not me SHIELD really wanted in the first place, it's Mary Marvel with all her powers of the gods. Mary Marvel's a superhero, I'm just a woman that's made alot of mistakes....and my latest one has lost me my best friend."
Easing down into the nearest chair at a steady pace, her good hand massaging her forehead, Mary let out a weak chuckle while she watched Zara dart around her office like a busy bee pulling out this and that and who knows what else. "I, uh, if I can trust you not to go repeating this to anyone, I just did something really stupid Zara. See there was this guy who had come to see my roommate. He was handsome and when she wasn't there he seduced me and we both got drunk. I let him get away with it. One thing led to another and before I knew it, well I'll spare you the details bu my roommate showed up and what I didn't know until later, what this guy failed to tell me was that he and my roommate had some sort of relationship. I swear I didn't know this going in but she was there when he and i woke up. She's furious, not that I can blame her."
Mary sighed heavily while her eyes trailed the doctor, hoping this wouldn't take awfully long, what with the need to hurry back to Danii's apartment and get her stuff at, even if she did have to rely on her alter ego to do the packing and lifting for her. "To sum it all up and to answer your last question, I plan on moving out of the apartment as soon as I can. The Hellicarrier has cabins for everyone to use if thy need them so I figured i would hang out in one of them until I can find a new place. I can't stay there anymore. I mean I could, she didn't kick me out but it wouldn't be right. Really awkward after this."

Zara was certain there was indeed plenty that Mary could do with a bad hand. Working hear taught you not to underestimate people. Mary Marvel may have been who SHIELD had gone after but they had Mary Bromfield too and if SHIELD wouldn’t look after the alter ego so much, Zara would. ”We all make mistakes.” Zara told her simply. There was no shame in them. Though as Mary told her that it had lost her her best friend Zara wondered what had happened.
”You have my work that I will not tell anyone anything you tell me. That doesn’t just go for now.” It was a habit. Zara kept herself to herself. If people told her things she felt no need to go on about it to someone else. Confidentiality was a large portion of her job and she had inducted it into her life. She listened to Mary whilst wheeling a rather chunky looking device over to where she sat. Portable x ray machines were a God send. ”I believe that you didn’t know that something was going on between them. I may not have spoken to you much but you don’t seem malicious.”
Switching on the machine Zara said, ”Place you’re arm onto the plate and try and get your hand as flat as if comfortable for you.” She checked compartments to make sure it was all set up before standing with her finger over the button to take some x rays of Mary’s hand. ”Mary, if you need a place to stay, you are always welcome to come and stay with me. It’s not huge but it’s better than this place. Don’t tell Fury I said that.” Zara had already crossed Fury once or twice. She had no problems with the younger woman coming to stay with her. She had a spare room which was just gathering dust.

"Your discretion in this matter is really appreciated. I am not the type to go around spreading gossip and I certainly don't need this story spreading from one end of SHIELD to the other. Loose lips sink ships and all that." She quipped dryly and with a small smirk at her own pun.
It's said that people tend to learn something new every day and Mary was discovering alot of new things as she sat there in the good doctor's office. Chief among them being that hangovers and aching body parts do not mix in the slightest little bit. Oh she felt like she wanted to jump out of her skin and scream up a storm from the inside out. She also discovered that the wheels on whatever gizmo Zara was pushing needed to be oiled or something. Loud as hell and not so easy on the ears as the young brunette was also discovering to her chagrin.
"I try not to be. I mean, I've never done anything like this before. It may not have been my fault but I am still partially responsible. It doesn't make the guilt any easier to live with."
Mary's head turned with a look in her eyes that figuratively screamed the words are you insane with the utterance of Zara's instructions but physically fought through the pain with her teeth gritted and sucked it up as her bad arm inched toward the machine and lay as flat as Mary could maneuver it while Zara worked her medical magic so to speak.
"If you're certain I won't be a bother I gratefully accept your offer. You barely know me though so I have to admit you'd take in someone just like that." She reached her good arm up and scratched her scalp for a second. "This is awfully nice of you, how soon would it be convenient for me to start hauling things in? If tomorrow isn't too soon I can get to work on stuffing things in boxes and hauling them over, or i can wait longer. Just don't want to be an inconvenience." She bit her lower lip in hopes her arm wouldn't have to stay in this position much longer.
"Where exactly do you live?"

”I have no time for gossips and I do not wish to become one.” Zara said with a shrug. She just felt like people with small minds spoke about the business of others. Continuing to listen Zara told her, ”Give your friend some time. There will be a point where you can both talk.” Sometimes she wondered if being male was easier. Girls would do this, the freezing people out. Guys would scrap over it, which seemed to be an easier option.
Watching as Mary straightened her hand out as much as she could, she was certainly in pain. As soon as it was down though, Zara began taking the shots, not wanting to keep Mary holding the uncomfortable position. After a few moments she said, ”All done. I’ll take a look now.” Zara pulled out the sheets before shaking her head, You won’t be a bother.”
Zara couldn’t help but smile to herself as she turned away to put the x rays up and take a proper look. It was true, she barely knew Mary. But Zara had barely known Natas when she had gone ahead and jumped into a cab with him and gone to an illegal fight. ”I take chances with people if I think they are decent.” Zara told her. If she had thought for one second Mary had done what she’d done on purpose, this meeting would have been conducted in icy silence. ”You can move in as soon as you are ready. If you need any help packing, just let me know.”
Staring up at the x rays Zara frowned. She had broken a few line, varying between fractures and deeper breaks. ”I’ll put this into a cast for you. Please try not to punch anymore walls.” She then turned to Mary and said, ”I have an apartment in Queens. Is that ok?”

Zara was right. Mary knew it too but it felt good having someone to listen while she finally got this off her chest. She still felt guilty but it was somehow less painful and more bearable having someone to confide in again. She answered with a nod and allowed a small smile to creep on her face once the x-rays were taken leaving her free to stir again. Now the thought of the bad news the pictures might reveal seemed a little less troubling as well. As long as she didn't get benched indefinitely and declared unable to do her job while she was injured, she'd find a way to muddle through. She considered herself a survivor in alot of aspects that way.
"Your faith in me is greatly appreciated, doctor." She chimed in, gingerly lifting her arm off the table with gritted teeth before turning to gaze directly at the wall the x-rays were being hung on once developed. "Queens is fine with me. Once I get out of here and transform It won't take Mary Marvel long at all to do the packing. If you really don't care how soon I arrive I could have everything done and be at your apartment within an hour of the time you are home again. Of course if you really have your heart set on helping I could let you drive my car back to Danii's apartment and then drive it to your place with me inside once I have everything in it. Driving with one good hand isn't exactly something I am eager to make a habit of. How long will I have to wear the cast once you have it on me?"

Back across the room she went as Zara set to work on making up the plaster for Mary’s hand. It wouldn’t take her long to apply it and for it to set. Zara looked over at her as she spoke, leaning against the work top. ”I’m happy enough to drive if that’ll help.” Zara said to her. Zara didn’t mind how soon she moved in. Sooner was probably better for Mary. Away from the awkward environment that had been created for the moment. Zara was almost certain though, that with time and a clear head they would manage to fix things. If they truly were friends they would find a way to come through it. Not that she was an expert in any of this.
Stirring the mix that was in her hands Zara took another glance up at the xrays and pulled a thoughtful face. ”I’d say you’ll be in the cast for about three weeks.” At the end of three weeks Zara would take another look at it, but judging by the breaks it would be ok. Zara walked back over to Mary with the plaster mix. ”At least it can be fixed.” Zara had encountered some bad breaks and some had been so bad that it had meant minimum use of the limb afterwards.

"Now that you mention it riding along with you would probably be better, it will give me the extra time for the cast to finish setting if I need it. I've never had to wear one before so I am not sure how long it takes." The thought of having to wear this thing would be a hindurance but it would be a tradeoff in giving her more time and excuse to stay powered up. "How long DOES this take to set by the way?"
She was at a loss, dumbfounded really, at how the damage could have been so extensive. She didn't remember hitting the wall that hard but then there were probably other things she didn't remember in addition to the things she'd like to forget. "At any rate, once we are at the apartment & it hardens I can transform and help speed up the moving process, After that I'll buy dinner. it's the least I can do." She smiled, shuffling her feet now, getting more antsy from both the bad arm and the lingering headache. "2 questions. Do you have any painkillers I can take and i am curious to know if you snore in your sleep." She laughed after the last question but it was true she didn't know Zara well and since they were on the way to becoming roommates now seemed the right time to break the ice.

She had never worn a cast either. Zara, touch wood, had never gotten herself into any serious medical predicaments and everything she knew came solely from books rather than personal experience. But people continued to trust her and so she continued to do what she needed to. ”Oh it doesn’t take that long. For your hand, I’d say about an hour or so.” She pulled a face but the nodded. Yes, to be set properly it would take roughly an hour. If it had been anything larger it would have taken them longer.
”You don’t have to you know.” Zara told Mary, when she said she would buy dinner. She was about to start applying the cast to Mary’s hand when she asked about painkillers and snoring. Zara laughed, ”Firstly, yes I have some painkillers.” Zara placed the bowl down and went over to the cabinet. ”Are you allergic to anything?” She pulled out two different bottles and got a bottle of water before walking back over to Mary. ”And secondly, as far as I know, I don’t snore.” Truth be told, Zara rarely slept much so Mary wouldn’t find it too much of a problem. ”What about you?” It was nice getting to know someone and what they were like.

There was little else Mary could do but nod and just sit there for the duration while the doctor went about the business of setting her arm in plaster despite the excruciating pain. Hangover, headache, broken wrist and hand. Mary had her share of troubles but there were people in the world that had it far worse so there was little reason to sit and throw herself a pity party. She made the mess and she'd find a way to clean it up. Somehow.
"No, not allergic to anything that I know of. Except of course, for my own stupidity." She let a laugh out then gently pressed her teeth into her tongue and squinted in some weird attempt to block out the pain as much as possible until she could swallow a couple of pills. "And I know I don't have to but I want to. The least I can do for such a generous host." She smiled and ran her fingers through her hair.
"I was just kidding about the snoring remark. Just a little joke to lighten the mood in case it needed kit. Snoring doesn't bother me, not an issue even if you did and no I don't snore either," She answered, growing a bit more fidgety, anxious to get on the move again and getting more anxious by the second.
