Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

"...40-41-42-43-44"
The young 21 year old Mary Bromfield, dressed in a pair of sweatpants, sneakers, tank top and bra with her hair pulled back into a ponytail, in other words essentially an outfit made for a gym workout aboard SHIELD's helicarrier, counted audibly but softly, knuckles and fingers turning white as she stretched her arms to the limit. Up and down on a pull-up bar for an intended set of 50 repetitions.
She hadn't been with the organization all that long, and it was an organization that knew what she was capable of quite extensively when she uttered a certain 6 letter magic word so they didn't seem to be overly concerned with physical fitness for the non-powered version of her as long as she learned the same things other agents did, such as Espionage and other skills essential to being a government agent. Mary Bromfield however wouldn't settle for that. She would never and could never settle for second best and was determined to improve her strength, cardiovascular conditioning and fighting skills in her normal form if for no other reason than to ;prove she was more than a one trick pony.
So this morning with no assignments to deal with for the meantime it was just her alone in the gym 7 fitness area aboard this mighty vessel with Aerosmith playing on a small, portable CD player of her own in the background. From here she'd probably head to the stair climber since there'd been too much work and not enough time to go jogging lately, not that she was complaining, Mary was always the busy bee no matter what she put her hand too and she enjoyed it.
to her right sat a towel, bottle of water and a granola bar of the peanut butter variety as well as her purse. She'd already done a series of 10 sit-ups and 20 push-ups beforehand and felt as though her arms would soon fall off. She'd hang there on the bar before she'd quit however.
"Nnnnnnnnngh. 45-46-47....c'mon girl, you can do this. 48...49...Ah...ah...50! Yes!"

Thor had entered this particular room of SHIELD's airborne stronghold only once before. He had wandered into the area in the middle of the night, when the rest of helicarrier's inhabitants were asleep in their quarters if not on duty manning the control center stations. The Asgardian however, had no need of rest, and therefore took the emptied hallways as an opportunity to explore and familiarize himself with his new home. The aircraft was expansive, and although it was no where near as spacious as his father's palace, its layout was far more complicated, leading to losing his way on more than one occasion. But he was determined to eventually master the labyrinthine challenges of this abode.
A patrolling agent happened to pass by that evening he lingered at the entrance of the strange room filled with machines and mirrors. A gymnasium, the agent had called it, but then went on his way without explaining the exact function of the chamber. Thor decided against experimenting with the mysterious machines within, lest he set of some device that would disrupt the sleep of the shipful of agents. Agent Fury would not take kindly to that at all, no matter how accidental.
The next morning, Thor purposefully passed by the gymnasium again, and this time it was not devoid of people. A solitary individual--a lady--was performing a sort of exercise on a horizontally elevated bar, pulling her weight up with her arms so that her chin rose above the slender beam. She was counting the number of times she performed this motion.
Thor stood still at the doorway, watching in mild fascination, momentarily forgetting his manners until the lady finally noticed his presence and looked up. Immediately the Asgardian straightened and bowed slightly to her, as a sign of both greeting and apology. "Pray pardon me," he said. "I did not mean to intrude. I assure thee I am no knave, but merely a new arrival to his vessel. I am..." He paused a moment, as it passed through his thoughts that likely no introductions were necessary--he was almost certain all the SHIELD agents and employees had been thoroughly briefed about him. Nonetheless, it was the polite thing to do, so he proceeded. "...I am Thor Odinson of Asgard."

Her fingers were sore. Her palms ached. Drops of sweat dripped from her forehead, running into her eyes and creating a stinging sensation. Running down her cheeks until they drenched the collar of her shirt, merrily mingling with a few other sweat stains as she released the bar and dropped to the floor The figure in the doorway was recognizable from first glance and to be totally frank Mary Bromfield was in awe in a sense that bordered on hero worship. She had been looking forward for awhile to meeting the legendary god of thunder.
As soon as the soles of her sneakers kissed the ground beneath them she snagged the towel and dabbed her face & eyes, cleaning it of perspiration then squeezed the towel a few times until she got full feeling back into her sore digits.
She smiled innocently enough upon sticking a hand out for an exchange of handshakes. She knew full well who he was before he gave his name but doubted he could say likewise Then again he was a god so who knew. "Mary Bromfield, and it's no intrusion at all." She explained, turning to shut her music device off. "I've heard alot about you, God of Thunder. This is a real pleasure to finally meet you. What brings you into the gym?"

Despite being immortal and having potentially and literally "all the time in the world", Thor never wasted a moment or a breath on false humility. He did not seek out adulation like a man with a starved ego, but neither did he shy away from it. There had been a time during his younger years when he had basked in the Midgardian mortals' worship of him and even performed godlike feats in order to encourage it. Since then he had learned a lesson or two about humility, but it still gave him a sense of pride to have his lineage recognized.
"I have been told Director Fury hast made sure to inform everyone of my arrival." He took the hand she offered and grasped it in a careful handshake--a mortal custom he was finally beginning to master. "It is a pleasure as well, Lady Bromfield. Or wouldst thou prefer Mary?"
Gym. A puzzled expression flickered his features for a moment, before he suddenly uttered, "Haha! Gym... gymnasium. That is quite clever." Smiling wanly, he crossed his arms and swept his gaze at their surroundings. "I am curious as to the function of these queer inventions. I thought perhaps in observing thee I may discern a clue. But I understand now..." He gestured at her sweaty form. "Thou hast exerted thyself physically, seeking to increase thy strength. Thou art a soldier... an... an agent too, art thou not? And gymnasium is a Midgardian version of our combat room. By chance do any of these objects serve as weapons?"

"You're correct on that assumption, Thor. The word has gotten around which is why I didn't question you when I saw you in the doorway. I got the memo and saw your picture attached to it. I can't help being curious though as to why you've chosen to stay on the helicarrier. Not that I'm complaining. And just Mary will suffice" Her smile returned after they exchanged handshakes and she withdrew from it.
Her heart was still pumping at a faster rate than normal but one that was to be expected in the cool down period after working out but Mary wasn't nearly ready to call it quits yet. No pain no gain and there was still enough energy in her she had decided, to snag a jump rope off the rack and wrap up the session of exercise by repetitions of skipping over the aforementioned rope.
"Hopefully not. although I have seen stranger things happen in the midst of anger and violent fights. I have met some people before who wouldn't hesitate to pick up a barbell and slug someone upside the head with it. Generally they are only used to increase muscles and keep a person healthy" She explained as best as she could before beginning the jumping process.
"It does more than just build muscles. It helps the cardiovascular health, keeps the blood flowing properly and keeps the heart healthy too. Builds stamina also and increases endurance." She started to ramble now sounding like some athletic coach or trainer but that was just her, the health & fitness nut that she was. She loved staying in shape and on the move. "Not all of us have the immortality and perfect health of a god I'm afraid. Some of us are only human." She grinned between repetitions and answered with lightheartedness.

"I have willingly chosen to reside here on this vessel the time being, under strong advisement from Director Fury," Thor explained. "He told me it is the only location where it is guaranteed that I shalt not be disturbed by unwanted mortal admirers. Or belligerents. I am told there is a good number of both who would be able to recognize me in passing."
The Asgardian did not relish admitting that he had bended to the will of a mortal, even though it was to a respected leader like the head of the SHIELD organization. However, he quickly learned that swallowing his pride and accepting the counsel of those who knew this world better than he did, would save him a great deal of inconvenience. He just had to trust that they had his interests in mind... or at least feared the consequences of making a fool out of the Son of Odin.
His brows knotted slightly as he continued to observe Mary's actions. He would have wondered what possible gain could be merited from repeatedly jumping over a length of rope, but she anticipated his need to explanations and enlightened him with an extensive explanation. "Verily, we have little need for such exercises in my world," he said, resting a hand on one of the larger contraptions--a platform with some sort of conveyor belt wrapped around it. "But we train daily for battle, one warrior pitting his own strength against another's, mastering the fluidity and efficiency with which we use our weapons. It has always been enough. I remember what it was like to inhabit a mortal form. However, I can only imagine how difficult is to be so permanently fragile. Do not belittle humans by calling them mere. I do not envy mortal fragility, but I do admire it. It takes godlike courage to face the dangers of this imperfect world with a weaker body."

If you're ultimate goal is to avoid being grabbed, hounded and smothered everywhere you go then yes, I'd have to say our director my have made his advisement in your best interests." Mary answered while continuing the skipping process. "I could be wrong, his motives aren't always easy to read but I'd say he was just looking out for your best interests."
It was the truth, simple enough. She didn't understand the logic behind some of Nick Fury & SHIELD's directives, especially in the case of mistreating others and acting as if they were nothing more than lab rats or guinea pigs that can be disposed of whenever they feel the mood strike them.Such as Nyx for example. Mary still fumed inwardly over that one but in doing her private investigation through the computers and other resources of the hellicarrier she'd been able to cover her tracks so far, She had a promise to keep to Arizona and she would die before failing if it comes to that.
Being reprimanded by a god, The last thing she wanted today and she wasn't particularly well received to it but he did have a point. "I wasn't really belittling them, just myself." She spoke up once more, coming to a standstill and hanging the rope back where she took it from. "I assume then if my hunch is correct that you know who I really am? I mean of course you do, you're the god of thunder. There was a time I never would have dreamed i'd have the powers I've been granted. Now I can't imagine life without them. What I do in here now I'm doing because I have to but I would give anything to give it all up and spent 24 hours a day as Mary Marvel. There isn't really much I would amount to without her in my life. I certainly be here on SHIELD's vessel without her."
