Niles "Kodak" Gallagher

.....................................................................
Full Name: Niles Gallagher
Code Name: Kodak
Age: 32
Date of Birth:
Sexual Orientation: hetero
Species: human, suspected mutant
Alliance: SHIELD
Citizenship: Marvel
Canon or Original?: Original
"Victory is MINE Baldy!
And if you had any hair I'd take that too!"
And if you had any hair I'd take that too!"
Hair: Dark hair, not too long, but the style he wears it in requires constant visits to the salon to keep it in that 'perfectly' disheveled style. For work, he has it brushed cleanly and professionally backwards.
Eyes: Hazel eyes, partially hidden under his hooded eyebrows.
Height: 6'' 1'
Weight: 165 lbs
Distinguishing Marks: He has three beauty marks on the left side of his face.
Appearance: When he's not in uniform, Niles is the type to have a very relaxed casual attitude towards his attire. He might own a few suits and jackets, but if you try to get him in anything too uncomfortable he won't like it and he'll make sure to make you know how uncomfortable he is. He needs clothes that allow a free range of movement due to his over-sensitivity. He also can't think if he's too busy fretting over jeans that are too restricting or a shirt that's itchy. It might seem childish on his part, but Niles is just the sort of person to hone in on the little things in the world, the micro-aspects of his life that bother him, rather than focus on his grander shortcomings. It's something of a defense mechanism on his part, but that is how he deals with his own issues. If he's focusing on why something is out of place or distracting himself with paper crafts, he does not have to think about the bad things in his life.
Face Claim: Max Greenfield
"I’m not interested in making new friends,
I don’t even like the ones I have”
I don’t even like the ones I have”
Likes:
- Origami
- Painting
- Making crafts with his hands (he's famous for making friendship bracelets)
- Jackie Chan movies
- Saturday Morning Cartoons (especially Scooby Doo)
- thrill rides, flying
- small restaurants
- train rides
- traveling
- the countryside
- Galaga and other classic arcade games
Dislikes:
- Keeping still.
- When the craft store is closed
- Talking about himself
- Coffee. It makes him too twitchy, and he's fidgety enough as it is.
- Music that sounds like garbled choking or whining rather than singing. He's particular about things being on key.
- People who abuse their power
- Desk work.
- Complex math. It's too easy for him.
Personality: Niles seems to have a rather out-going and friendly personality, but he's secretly an introvert. He acts confident and secure, and he's really good at disguising his true feelings. He'd much prefer to be inside with a movie than go to a wild party (unless he's in the company of cherished friends). It's too stimulating for him to be in large crowds at times. His mind is already honing in on all the details and it can get overwhelming, which is really sad for him considering he loves theme parks and thrill rides.
When encountered with stress, where others might shut down or panic. Niles is the sort to successfully navigate the situation, finding a sort of calm in all the scrambling. He loves the busy life. If he's not busy than he's miserable.
He's also prone to over-intellectualize, and will never answer a personal question directly. He'll avoid the topic of himself if he can, and will snap at those who pry too deeply. He works with his hands if he can, his apartment is covered with paintings, sculptures, and other art projects he's delved himself in. When he's really upset there is no stopping him. He'll fall into a depressive spiral of creativity until he's passed out on the floor covered in paint and he won't even stop to eat.
"With great power comes great responsibility"
Powers:
- n/a
Weapons Whatever he can get his hands on. He's fond of breaking chairs and using picture frames for some reason, probably because he watched one too many cartoons.
Strengths/Abilities:
- Photographic memory
- decent fighting skills, kickboxing mostly and MMA, but he rarely has found himself in a situation to be in hand-to-hand combat
- Increased fine motor skills
Niles has the most agile and nimble fingers, which attributes to his success in firing arms like sniping, as well as putting together/taking apart objects. He has an intuitive feel for how things work.
The increased connections in his muscles allow for the tiniest micro-movements. Niles is always very precise and on target when it comes to firing a weapon, which he boasts he learned from playing video games in the arcade. He's also insanely good at the claw-machines and the like. He doesn't keep very many of the animals he wins (he likes to give them to children instead). You want a free i-pod? Ask Niles for help. - Keen eyesight.
Not necessarily for seeing at a distance, but Niles can catch details that others might overlook. - Predicting patterns and critical/analytic thinking
If you hand him a set of data or a code to crack, Niles can see where the loose ends are and draw connections from them to solve it. It makes him a great systems analyst, even if he hates the job. A lot of those math problems are just so elementary to him, that he hates not being challenged, so he's lazy instead. - Arts & crafts. Seriously, the macaroni art on the Helicarrier's breakroom fridge? That was Niles.
Weaknesses:
- If he broke his hands, then he'd be down for the count in terms of his ability for a bit. He may have superior control of his muscles, but it also means that he has more neural connections in those areas which means more pain. They do however, recover about 2x as fast as a regular person.
- Hypersensitivity to pain and temperature.
- He cannot be still, and is always fidgeting. Desk work is murder for him. This is why he tries to always keep his hands moving.
- Niles cannot express himself very well, at least when the topic is about him. He likes to say the past has passed, but he's never truly gotten over it. This leads to problems in his social life.
- Shutting down. Usually the result of the previous weakness. He will go into a manic project binge if he's pushed too far.
- Children. He keeps seeing himself in them and might lead him to do something desperate if they are in trouble. He also does not like to be around them too long.

History: Niles grew up in house full of all women. He was the middle child, stuck between two sisters who treated him like a prince. Even their dog was female, so Niles was always severely outnumbered. When he was 13, his mother remarried a police officer who didn't quite get along with Niles, but they at least respected each other in their own awkward way. Sam as he called him and his sisters were like peas in a pod, which Niles didn't mind because it opened up a huge amount of time for him to just be with himself. He was always the odd one out in the family, the one that kept to himself whereas the others were a rowdy bunch. It secretly bothered him that Sam fit in more with his family than he did.
And he certainly fit in with them just fine, six feet under at Maple Grove Cemetery.
There had been a car accident. That night, Niles had decided to stay home instead of going out with his family. He was woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of his front door's death knell. Sam's partner Charlie stayed with him all night because Niles had no other family. Charlie also housed Niles throughout the funeral process, and Niles grew quite close to him, as he had no one else in the world. A few months later, the state had been able to locate his biological father. At first, Niles did not know what to make of the news. He was so conflicted. Maple had been where he was born and raised. His family was buried here. He had a life here, but the law said he had to go, and so he was carted off to Los Angeles to live with his father.
His mother had always told him he had taken more after his father's side, so he was kind of relieved that he might have somebody to relate to in his life, where he had never truly had a connection with anyone in the way that his sisters had with Sam and his mother. Niles had liked Charlie, but Charlie had his own life to live. Niles didn't want to ruin that. At first, life with his father was quiet. They had dinners together and silently enjoyed each other's company.
There was tension, because the question in Niles' head had always been where was this man all these years? Why did his mother not want them to be together? One night, Niles asked this question and he was met with the answer- a wrench slammed against his left hand. That was the day Niles began to learn about his sensitivity, and how much quicker his broken hand healed than it should have.
The pattern of child abuse continued until Niles was seventeen. He developed trust issues and fidgeting. He found he couldn't sit still anymore. If he was moving, he could focus on where he was going than what he was leaving behind. Fix things, or make things where he had been broken over and over again for so many years.
Niles doesn't remember any of this. Somewhere along the line he must have forgotten or asked for a mindswipe because there is a huge gap of memories from the time he was 13 to 17 years old. He doesn't question it; he honestly doesn't want to know. He doesn't remember why he doesn't remember just that he left himself a video reminder that he didn't want to, so he accepts this and moves on. Niles visits Charlie often, who was also debriefed by him not to trigger his memories. Niles is happier for it. The truth was, Niles somehow utilized the extra neural connections in his brain to kill the cells that held the code for his adolescent memories. As a result, he no longer has access to the memory that he has this ability.
Niles originally was a member of the police force in Ohio with Charlie until Charlie gained him connections to SHIELD, seeing it a better fit for him and much more of a challenge. Niles originally worked as support for missions until he botched up a job and was sentenced to desk work on the Helicarrier. He's good at what he does, but sitting still all day does not suit his nerves. He takes medication for the fidgeting while he works on the SHIELD helicarrier. Niles counts the days until his sentence is up.
