Most people would disapprove but he was on his own, so Cletus Kasady was sure that no one cared. He leaned against the wall of the underground New York subway station, smoking a Camel cigarette, black ballcap pulled low over his eyes. Most would consider him suspicious, he was sure, if he was standing in a less public, more open space. But somehow no one noticed if you were acting suspicious underground-literally. Quite unlike the day before, he wasn't feeling all that violent. Maybe the battle with the web-head and Human Torch had taken it all out of him. That had been a narrow escape that he wouldn't dare repeat until he was sure that there were no heroes that could shpot flame in the general vicinity. It had shaken Cletus and the Carnage symbiote up a bit, almost to the point that he didn't want to see another human face again. However after a bit of rest and reflection Cletus rediscovered the thought that it was only a certain few that were strong; everyone else was normal. After that he felt very much like doing his usual stalk routine so today he had headed out as was his standard. There just wasn't going to be any killings today that were under his name. That is, unless someone approached him with a knife or a gun. Then they would find themselves in serious trouble. Black pants, gray winter coat, white tennis shoes,-Cletus looked and felt like someone evading the law, someone who would dress like this even on a one hundred degree day, just to protect his identity. And he would. It worked, for the most part. It was hard to pick out a certain person for long among all the bodies that came and went through the station. It was a pretty popular one, a hub for office workers, men in black suits and women wuth briefcases and knee-length pencil skirts. Some were rich, others dirt poor though their position at the office was one that a beggar would die for. They might work at different companies, too, but there was one thing alike in all of them-they took the subway every working day of their lives. [/style]

It probably wasn't the best idea to fall asleep on the subway train, but once he had leaned his head back and shut his eyes- he was gone.

Spidey in the subway. It seemed like such an usual sight considering he could just about swing from one end of the city to another so fast it would make any cabby jealous. Sitting in his suit would have had earned him many stares and whispers, and why was he placed there in the subway if he had better means of transportation? If he was Peter then it would have made a bit more sense, but no, he was fully suited up as Spider-Man, and acting as though this was such a casual affair as any. This was different. No one was making a fuss about him. Everything felt.. strangely normal.

When he woke up, the scene hadn't changed much except pretty much everyone ELSE were wearing Spider-Man suits. Was this one of those dream within a dream moments? Peter blinked, counting the Spider-Men, Spider-Women, Spider-Lads and Lassies on his hand. When his eyes honed in on an empty pumpkin pail, he realized the date: It was Halloween weekend. He felt mildly left out to be honest, one of the few not dressed in costume at all. Part of him wanted to find an empty cart and get changed into his suit (he was actually wearing it underneath his clothes right now). There were a few Iron Men and Captain Americas to be found, but it seemed the citizens of the subway had a clear thing for arachnids.

Peter stole his phone from his pocket and and took a quick snap shot. It wasn't every day the subway was overrun by superheroes.

He had completely forgotten about that until this morning when he had seen the front of the Times; a huge orange version of their logo graced the cover. It got Cletus thinking a little about years past and memories both good and bad. As a kid Cletus had dressed up. Now though it had fell out of vogue in his older age. Costumes were gaudy - that is, with the exception of the red, living suit he wore when the symbiote sensed a danger or chance to do evil. That one would probably never go out of fashion. His mind wandered to the two Halloweens that he had spent with Miranda. She had dressed up as a fairy the first year and an angel the second, recycling the winged idea simply because her husband had liked the little mesh-covered, velcro-attached things. Plus, both required a heavy amount of makeup to pull off, and he liked seeing her wear makeup. She had such a skilled hand at mascara, and her eyeliner was pristine all the time. She had been so beautiful. But now she was dead. That was one thing he could never get back. And he wouldn't rise to the Halloween occasion anymore, probably. Yet, he knew he'd be enjoying it and all the bright fabrics if he was still living with Miranda and their baby girl. They would be wearing something of his wife's design and be... The Incredibles or something. However, though, soon kids and adults alike were streaming into the station with costumes galore. Though many heroes flashed by him as he stood there against the wall, Cletus didn't see any villains. That made a lot of sense considering that they weren't really that popular. The heroes were always the ones the public admired and honored, heaping praise upon for saving the world. Yet, Cletus knew that without people like him, there would be no superheroes. Sure, a select few might have powers, but there would be no reason to do heroic acts or save anyone. Do-gooders would have no place anywhere. It was kind of a win-win situation. At first Cletus didn't notice Peter as he stepped off the train. The symbiote nudged him a little but he disregarded it. Finding the real Spider-man here was like finding a needle in a haystack, that was for sure, and that thought remained until he actually looked up (at Carnage's urging, of course) and saw the Reporter himself. No, he wasn't going to get in a tangle today. Quickly, quietly, he left the wall and started to make his way through the chaos, going for the outside. [/style]

One of the best times to be roaming around the city, seeing what costumes were popular, wearing one on your own, watching little kids get candy door-to-door, and perhaps playing a couple pranks on people. Unfortunately, Clint hadn't done the latter for a very long time, and the rest he hadn't been able to do for years (part of the reason being that his loft was so far away from the street, no kid or their mom dared to go through the alley that led to it). Usually Clint only stayed home (for, after all, no need to go out as Hawkeye, for he was a popular halloween costume), but this year his landlord, Gerard, had convinced him to dress up and come with him to a party. There were probably going to be lots of weed brownies or something... knowing his hippie landlord. And the old man had insisted that Clint dress up. At first the whole thing seemed hopeless. It had been a hard decision what to go as, and good ideas were scarce in the sharpshooter's mind. It would be funny if he went as Cap, and that had sounded like a good idea for a while. However, when he saw all those mass-produced costumes at Wal-Mart, he had changed his mind about that. Then, there was the thought of making up a new superhero identity and being them. The idea clicked. In no time Clint pulled out a concept design he had sketched a while back during his academy days. The sharpshooter had always thought that it was a cool personage, and had even thought up a whole backstory and things for this Ronin character. To be brief, even after all these years Clint still thought that it was an awesome costume. It required a lot of brown fabric and things, but that was more than doable. Ronin, in the imaginative mind of Clinton Barton, was a vigilante hero, a ninja of sorts, who carried around two katanas, a bow and arrows, and an array of throwing weapons. He had been trained as a samurai in Japan and had been exiled from there for misconduct. By day he had an alter ego as a travel agent. But by night he masqueraded as Ronin, the ninja of the night, quelling crime and kicking the rear end of all that dared cross him. Cheesy, yeah, but awesome! It was a totally cool costume when he got it all finished. Not to mention, it was so like him. He felt like he had been this persona for years the first time he had slipped into the suit. Perhaps he could go on a mission with the Avengers in the future and scare all of them out of their wits. That would be a laugh. in any case, now Clint and Gerard, dressed as his favorite superhero Hawkeye (Imagine that, Clint had thought when he had first shown what he was wearing) were walking to the subway station, for a train ride across town to get to the party. "My friend Freddy is hosting his yearly big Halloween bash. There's bound to be some great goodies there; his wife Vonia is really nice and cooks like a pro." Said Gerard again for probably the one millionth time. "He usually doesn't let us being guests, but they remodeled the house and expanded it, so now it's a lot bigger." Ah, old druggies. You gotta love 'em. Clint walked in silence beside his landlord, his ears open to the man beside him and the night, for anything awry. Almost by second nature he touched his cellphone, in his pocket, ready for any summoning by SHIELD. They had seemed to be more and more in need of the sharpshooter's services lately. Clint couldn't blame them, honestly. The world had gotten quite a bit crazier. Luckily nothing about Clint, nor Gerard, had changed. Suddenly a man in a black coat and hat, with his head down, came jogging out of the subway station. He had this look on his face that Clint thought was quite mischievous, and that hinted he wanted to hurt someone. "Hold it right there." Clint stepped in front of the guy. Perhaps he was only acting the part, but the sharpshooter had this deep feeling in the pit of his stomach. The man, with a shove too powerful to be his own, pushed Clint aside and dove through the crowd to the wall so he could escape. Wrong move. Quicker that you could say, Zip, Clint had his bow and an arrow out and, spinning around, put it through the bill of the guy's hat, effectively pinning him to the wall. Clint was over in seconds. "I said, hold it right there!" He grabbed the perp by the shoulder. The other looked up at him... and Clint knew that he was in for a lot of trouble. Peter couldn't sense the Carnage symbiote, but that didn't mean Ronin's arrows did not alert him of nearby danger. Peter groaned amongst the Spider-Men. "Can't a guy get a break, like one day New York? If you were a girl I'd marry you, but lady, you are high maintenance." While everyone was filing out and staring at the confrontation scene, Peter skittered away without being noticed over and around the train. Only once the subway train pulled ahead did it reveal Spider-Man on the other side of the tracks. No one knew he was the real thing until he shot a webline towards the pair, propelling himself onto the ceiling of the station and towards them.

Hawkeye probably saw him coming a mile away, but Peter did not know the Ronin character was SHIELD's finest Clint Barton, or that the infamous Cletus Kasady was on the other side. He crawled above him, in arachnid style, and suspended down on a web to meet them.

"Am I going to have to put you two in timeou- oh. Fishsticks." he recognized Cletus almost immediately, although the guy-with-the-arrows was a complete mystery to him. The arrows should have been a clue, but Peter missed the hint entirely. He just thought it was a nice costume.

Man some people really get into the holiday!

"Uh.. listen guy in the badass samurai costume. I can..uh, take it from here. Me and this guy go way back." he pointed a casual thumb at Cletus. If Cletus could see Peter's eyes right now, he was practically glaring. "Big C, your costume bites.

Nearly. As he came barelling out of the station, a guy in a ninja costume stepped forward and tried to stop him. The other had a commanding tone. A little old man, dressed as Hawkeye, walking beside the ninja, stopped and stepped away in puzzlement. Internally, Cletus laughed. Two normal pedestrians in costumes had no advantage over him. Carnage's first instinct was to shove the ninja over and be done with it. But, things didn't work out as planned. The costumed man turned out to be as solid as a rock. It took supernatural symbiote strength to even move him, and even that didn't even get him thrown off-balance for a single second. In hurried fear, Cletus scrambled right, to the wall. He was sure that if he stuck to its path, and hurrued as fast as his legs could take him, the ninja wouldn't be quick enough to catch up. He didn't count on the arrow that flashed literally three centimeters in front of his eyes, and pinned the brim of his hat to the brick wall, fracturing the stone it had hit. Well, this was lovely. Anger rose up in his heart. He was stuck. The hat was securely fitted to his head; there was no getting out of it until he had taken off his coat. The Carnage symbiote started to cover his body, and as the ninja stood over him, Cletus Kasady smiled evilly and looked up. He didn't know that his eyes were already red, wild, taken posession of by the living symbiote that used his body as a haven. Then Spidey swung in from inside the subway station, warning the ninja to back off, the man he had apprehended. Spidey didn't know the man, and Cletus didn't either, but considering the show of power that had happened before, he guessed that this ninja was a professional crimefighter, and would insist on helping the web-head. Now this was getting heated up.[/style]

He was easily recognizable from top-priority SHIELD files. They had been watching this man's activity for the past couple months, ever since the threat of the villain posse had started to form behind the scenes. Fury had been worried about the sheer danger this one man posed to everyone around him, and he was considered one of the most dangerous super-villains out there. However, so far he had come across as a strict loner, and hadn't associated himself with the others as of yet. The only activity they had recorded was a fight with Human Torch and with Spider-man just yesterday, and also a run-in with Justice Leaguer Black Canary. Without a doubt, it was Cletus Kasady, assassin-for-hire, arch enemy of Spider-man, serial killer, and posessor of the symbiote Carnage. As it was to be expected, Spider-man himself hopped in. It would have been sort of hilarious to truly listen to the web-head's plea to leave and the fact that he didn't recognize the SHIELD agent if this wasn't such a scary situation. Honestly, Clint was glad for the kid's worries for him, but the sharpshooter could take care of himself, wether Peter knew that he was the real thing or not. Calmly, Clint first turned to Spider-man, gesturing for him to stop for a second. Then he turned to Gerard. "Good sir, go on to the party. I'll be there as soon as I can." Clint only called his landlord good sir when a special favor was needed. Gerard nodded and disappeared into the subway station. Then it was back to the web-head. Clinton addressed him as the gristly mask finally covered Cletus's face. "I am fully aware of who this is, and I have a feeling that you'll need my help with bringing him down." He paused. "I.. stand corrected." He held a hand out and nodded graciously. Peter excused himself after watching the arrow nail Cletus' hat (obviously the hat had seriously offended the samurai in some way). This guy could clearly shoot a squirrel in the eye if he wanted to from the looks of it. "Normally I work alone, but I'll make an exception. You had dibs and all, errr.. didn't catch your name there Tom Cruise."

As the symbiote changed Cletus' costume from suspicious criminal to Carnage, Peter tensed. It was one of those things he probably should have been used to by now but never could quite shake off just how freaking disturbing it was. Why couldn't the goop just hurl itself back into space and into a big black hole or something? His life would have gotten a heck of a lot easier without them to muck up the streets. Some tourists liked to readily complain about the roaches and the rat vermin in the city, but the biggest pest problem in New York City was not your run-of-the-mill critter- It was the symbiotes you have to watch out for. Rat guts you could clean, but space pests? You couldn't just spray them with Symbiote-B-Gone and be done with it. (Oh, how Peter wished.)

Spider-Man crossed his arms haughtily. "I see what we've got here. 'Thought you could hit up the same house twice by doing the old costume switcheroo, eh? Didn't anyone tell ya you were too old for trick-or-treating, C?"
