"Victory is MINE Baldy!
And if you had any hair I'd take that too!"
And if you had any hair I'd take that too!"
Hair: Brown and kept short to keep it out of her eyes. She doesn't really pay much attention to her hair and, as it's short, doesn't need to.
Eyes: Yet again brown but darker than her hair.
Height: 5"2
Weight: 100 pounds
Distinguishing Marks: None.
Appearance: Tara doesn't care about her appearance. Her clothes are chosen based on comfort and practicality and she wouldn't know where to start if she decided to try makeup for once. Her clothes are usually jeans and a top with a hoodie or coat over the top, sneakers or plain boots for shoes, depending on the weather.
The only exception is when it comes to scarves. She loves them and is very rarely seen outside without them. Tara has more scarves than shoes, trousers and tops put together, green and wool, grey cashmere, red and blue stripes, she collects them and, even in the Summer, wears one a tall times - even if it's just a simple brown one tied around her waist instead of a belt.

Having options (she hates it when she's trapped, both in the literal and metaphorical sense)
Going on long walks
Calligraphy
Dislikes:
Being made fun of
Boredom
Small spaces (she's claustrophobic)
People knowing about her panic attacks
People who ruin books - writing on them, folding or tearing the pages, etc.
Personality:
Tara’s a quiet woman, preferring to be by herself with a good book than out in a crowd or at a party. Not exactly antisocial though, it’s more that she doesn’t trust other people. She tends to believe the worst in others and thus is rarely surprised when someone turns against her. In fact, truth be told, she prefers it when people have (or say they have) bad motives as it makes more sense to her than someone actually doing something for a good reason.
Tara's main problem is that she does not by any means handle bad situations well. She panics and jumps to the worst possible conclusion and sometimes, especially if she really is in danger, this can lead to panic attacks that can be anywhere from mild to severe. Being a private person, she's unlikely to actually tell anyone about this, or anything else really, as she just assumes that people'll use that knowledge against her.
Although she could be described as a selfish, self-centred coward, Tara would prefer to label herself as someone who doesn’t like getting involved in other people’s business. She’s as curious as hell, bordering on nosy, but if there was a fight going on nearby she’d most likely call the police (because she’s selfish, not evil) and then leave. She’d rather someone else got hurt than herself.
That said, Tara’s not a bad person at heart. If there was something she could do for someone, without getting hurt or put in danger herself, chances are she’d do it. If they were a close enough friend (or a child, she has a soft spot for children, friends and cats) then she’d at least consider the pros and cons (and she would literally think about it. This is a woman able to weigh up letting a friend get hurt or possibly killed against potential risks against herself with a detachment that could be classed as anything from disturbingly callous to sensibly practical).
Tara, like everyone else, has some things she loves and some things she hates. Her main enjoyments are reading and travelling. Reading she loves, not just the stories but the books. The smell and texture of paper, the way changing one word in a sentence can change the entire paragraph’s meaning. She has a hugely extended vocabulary although she employs it rarely as, due to having only read the majority of the words and not heard them, she often gets pronunciations wrong and has been ridiculed for it in the past – or at least thought she was being ridiculed, Tara has the unfortunate quality of not having a sense of humor and cannot always tell the difference between an affectionate tease and a spiteful mock.
"With great power comes great responsibility"
Powers: Tara has the ability to command her written words. If she writes something on an object, an order, then the object in question carries out that order. If, for example, she wrote “Hit X” then the moment her pen left the paper that object would fly towards “X”. She can be more specific, for example “Hit X in two days time” and then the object would hit X in precisely two days time. The longer it takes for her order to be fulfilled, the more energy is drained from her, although this drainage only begins after the order has begun – so it would drain in the time taken for the object to hit X, but not in the two days between the writing of the order and the time the order began. Once written, an order cannot be removed and every written order is carried out (or tried to, if the order is too much then it will simply continue to drain her until it either happens or she dies).
The writing doesn’t have to be English, not necessarily. As long as Tara knows what it means (the written form, she doesn’t have to speak it), it does as she writes. If she got a word wrong, changing what was written (so she meant to write “Burn” and instead wrote “Decompose”) then what was written would happen, whether she meant it to or not – therefore she has to be very careful with her spelling, grammar and, if she uses a different language to her native one, the words used, or else an order could work out entirely differently to how she’d intended.
Her power has a lot of limits, however. Big objects take up more energy, as do ones that are tied or bolted down. The longer it takes for the order to be carried out, the more energy taken. Her energy is also drained while she's writing, although to a far lesser extent. If she drains too much energy (perhaps by a large amount of time or situation based commands going off at the same time) then she will grow dizzy and if it continues collapse and eventually die.
Once an order has been written, it cannot be removed, if it’s written in pencil it cannot be rubbed off, if it’s written in ink it cannot smudge. Due to this, she has to be careful about what she writes as, if an order is completely and utterly unfeasible (such as “punch someone” on a wall or “resurrect a dead person” on anything) and there isn’t a specified time or date, her energy will be drained as it tries to fulfill her command and she will eventually die. Once an order's completed, the words disappear themselves.
Tara has no real control over her power, it occurs each and every time she writes an order (or anything that could be constituted as an order). Every word she writes, if it’s an order it will drain her energy and do everything possible to occur. This includes writing with pencils, pens, colored pens, highlighters, quills or anything else really - including drawing in the dust or dirt. The only exceptions are electrical appliances such as keyboards and typewriters.
Weapons N/A
Strengths/Abilities:
> Is a very intelligent woman with a gift for languages, able to read and write French, Latin and German and speak French fluently.
> Is very knowledgeable about other cultures - has a degree in anthropology
> Has a brilliant memory for words and can recite extracts of books she's read word-perfectly if she puts her mind to it
Weaknesses: (at least 2)
> Tara is physically weak and quite fragile, with no skill in weapons or martial arts. Without her power (which can be stopped as easily as keeping her away from pens and pencils) she has no real way of protecting herself.
> She gets panic attacks when stressed out or in danger, which naturally make her even less useful in a fight.

History: Tara was born in England to the parents Melissa and Ronald Jenkins, she had no siblings. Her parents were rather wealthy, a businesswoman as a mother and a dentist as a doctor. Her parents were often busy, her father having to go off to work a lot and, so as to stop their only daughter from being continually given nannies and babysitters, Tara accompanied her mother on her business trips to other countries.
Growing up, Tara was an intelligent girl with a love for languages and literature. She was, however, a social outcast at her school, even before her mutation developed. With different interests to the other children, and a preference to reading in the library than playing with the others on the field, she didn't make any friends throughout her first school and, without the social skills needed to do so, didn't make any in secondary either.
Her mutation developed when she was fifteen, in the middle of an English, creative writing exam. Her paper set on fire but it was a few days before she realized that her power was to do with words, not flames. Strangely, her mutation actually helped her gain favor with her classmates as, in an effort to prove that they weren't anti-mutant, quite a few of them made an effort to include her more. It helped, to an extent, but Tara didn't trust them and things quickly returned to how they were before.
She finished her A-levels a year early, with excellent grades and left home for a gap year straight away. She spent the year travelling the world, France and Spain, a brief stint in the Caribbean and a two month expedition building a school in Cambodia. Upon returning to England, she applied for university and was granted a scholarship at a university in America for anthropology.
About three quarters of the way through her degree, Tara returned to England having heard news of her mother's illness. The woman had caught a disease from a long business trip and died in hospital while Tara was still on the flight over.
After spending two weeks with her father, Tara went back to New York but decided against completing her degree, instead she rented out an apartment and, despite technically not being allowed in America without a visa, she got a job at a local library and has stayed there ever since, doing her best to avoid conflict and live well.

Writing Sample:
Walking quickly, Tara hurried back the way she'd come, doing her best not to attract attention to herself and hoping that no one had seen what had happened.
It hadn't been her fault, that was the most important thing and, should anyone ever find out about it, that was what she'd tell them. Probably adding that they'd attacked her first and she hadn't meant to actually hit him, but she hadn't had time to write a more specific order on the brick. Writing took time and she hadn't had much.
Besides, there had been four of them so, on the whole, Tara thought she'd done quite well. Especially with a bleeding nose and shaking hands, which, she noticed absently, had yet to stop trembling. She'd already called an ambulance and, upon hearing sirens, hurried the rest of the way home the police before arrived and decided to question random passersby about what happened.
Hurrying up the steps to her home, Tara unlocked the door and slammed it close, the shaking in her fingers increasing as she slid down the wall to sit on the floor, taking deep breathes in the hope of calming herself before an actual panic attack set on. She could feel her heartbeat increasing and her chest tightening, inhaling deeply through her nose, she closed her eyes and thought of the first thing that came to her head. Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand?. She was almost three quarters of the way through the soliloquy before her breathing evened out enough for her to get up and go to bed.
In the morning, she decided, she'd check what had happened to the men.
No length requirement, just give us the best that you've got.
