"Objection, he's badgering my witness your honor" shouted Jen as she stood up from her chair rather abruptly, her hands steadying herself on the table in front of her. The judge nodded as he agreed with her and looked over at her opponent "Now Mr.Chandler you know I won't allow that kind of malarkey in my courtroom". This resulted in Mr.Chandler regrettably saying "withdrawn your honor". Satisfied, Jen calmly sat back down as she crossed her legs and clasped her hands together to rest them on the table. Her deep green eyes watched her witness through clean spectacles as Mr.Chandler asked another question, this time respectfully.
Nervously, Jen pushed up her spectacles with her index finger as she waited for her client in the hallway bathroom. Briefcase in hand her head darted up as she read the time on the clock diagonal from her, three thirty pm. Patience really wasn't one of her virtues especially when she felt she was going to be late and her nerves didn't help. At that moment she heard the familiar squeaky shoes of a Mr.Chandler as he passed her in the court's hallway, his stature confident even though he had just lost his case. She couldn't say the same about his gaze as he shot her a gaze filled with hatred. Jen looked down for a brief moment and smiled to herself as he passed out of sight.
Just then the bathroom door opened and her client emerged a large smile on the older woman's face. "Oh Ms.Walters I can't thank you enough, I'm finally free of that man" she spoke finding that a hand shake wasn't sufficient the woman pulled Jen into a hug. Jen tensed up immediately and gave the woman a couple pats on the back with one hand. "I'm glad you are too, no one deserves to be in that situation." she spoke with somber look on her face, her hands clutching the brief case handle in front of her. The woman nodded and had this look of gratitude on her face, Jen could only guess what was about to come out of her mouth next "Ms.Walters I feel like I need to repay you more, how about a late lunch".
Reluctantly, Jen began to decline "I'm sorry Ms.Greene but I have a prior engagement" she spoke as she tried to let the woman down easily. It was nice of the woman to offer, but there was some where that Jen had to be that was more important then lunch with a successful client. The woman nodded, taking the hint as she soon replied "Well thank you again" and gave one last wave before walking down the hall.
A large sigh left Jen's lips as she looked at the clock again, three forty pm. She went the opposite direction as she went from regular walking, to speed walking and finally just began jogging down the hallway. The door flew open and hit the building itself as she pushed it open and continued her speed, barely making it down the stairs of the courthouse in her pumps without falling. Her shoes making harsh clacking noises against the concrete that even made her cringe. But it didn't matter, like said before there was some place she needed to be. Her arm shot up as she waved it back and forth trying to get a cab driver's attention, soon having to yell taxi.
Her patience wore thin however as taxi after taxi passed her. She growled in frustration as she continued to wave the one arm that was free, but this time she didn't hold back "I said TAXI !" she yelled as her voice bellowed with anger and depth. A taxi screeched to a stop in front of her. Jen didn't waste anytime as she dropped her arm and quickly got into the back seat of the cab. Tossing her briefcase to the side she told the cab driver "Fifth Avenue, and step on it".
"I'm through talking, get out of my cave,"
