Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

An old relic of a spaceship had been discovered near the Barsoom system. Just drifting through space. Not exactly worth the attention of what was left of the Nova Corps. Not at all. Until it was discovered that the ship was actively generating an energy signature. Even more curiously, it was one associated with Chitauri ships. That was definitely not a good sign. Not at all. The Chitauri weren't exactly known for letting perfectly good battleships go to waste like this. For all Richard knew, it could be a trap. In fact it was more than likely it was a trap. The species was notoriously warlike. It wouldn't leave their ships floating near a collapsing star.
And still, Richard couldn't shake the essentially human curiosity that surrounded the ship. In line with Nova Corps protocol, he was definitely obliged to take a look at it. The WorldMind consented after he cited regulations against it. Maybe the WorldMind was getting a bit slow in its old age. Could computers do that? He had no idea. Still, it didn't take them long to leave the Solar system, leaving an impressive streak of light across the Earth sky, and headed at full speed for the derelict hunk of space metal.

After all, she was thinking aout the subject and experiencing it. In the past few days, Lilith had decided to take her role into more concideration. Most of the time she had been out giving help to the homeless, but now she was being 'Liath' more actively, helping to spread hope as a Blue Lantern and actively doing helpful stuff. Like saving people from burning buildings and getting their belongings stolen. The student could never understand why people would steal - it just wasn't nice. There was a collapsing star not too far away, which did fascinate the university student. Already she had been considering heading that way when something caught the girl's attention. Something was moving with incredible speed out of the solarsystem and the tragectory suggested that it had come from earth. Blue eyes widened in suprise, she must have missed that while thinking about the collapsing star and how it would meet its end. Strangely enough, the moving form (now beyond her mere human vision) seemed to be heading that way. I wonder what it is. Lilith thought, maybe it was one of the Green Lanterns on earth heading off to save some people within that sector. Or some other sort of thing. Deciding that looking couldn't hurt, Lilith speed after the form, not sure if she could catch up. But it was worth a try and Lilith started with remembering the course that she had seen the object moving on. It clearly wasn't a rocket, she would have heard if something was being sent out and currently, man could not make rockets that fast. Putting on an extra burst of speed, Lilith tried to catch up. If I spoke, would he even be able to hear me? I don't think the ring puts things into radio waves and then the other thing would need to pick up the waves. But the voice can't travel through a vacuum... She thought as she followed. tags: word count: muse: Nova notes:Space... the final frontier Though BRY made this table, all the credit goes to RAVEN for the idea! :D[/style] |

"Reading unknown energy signature. Sector 9...5...3." Richard heard the Worldmind sound off the co-ordinates in his head. Sector 953, according to the Worldmind's tactical system, was pretty far behind him, but within weapons range for many of the ships in its databanks. Could it be a Chitauri ship? Had Richard wandered into a trap, just like he had always thought? Then again, this ship wasn't in the WorldMind's databanks. It could be friendly, for all Richard knew. Considering all the new alien species that were popping up everywhere nowadays, he wouldn't be surprised. To that end, he slowed down to a complete halt. He was still a while away from the Chitauri wreck, but he was Nova. He could make up the time pretty quickly.
Richard turned to face the direction of the energy signature. A brief radiation sweep by the WorldMind indicated that the alien signature was coming from a humanoid-like figure, flying through space. He ought to hail it and find out where it came from.
"Hello!" he called, the Nova Corps helmet translating his voice into a mental communique. No response. Better try another language. One more...inhuman. "J'at!" The traditional Xandrian greeting. Nothing back.
"Dushra Han!" Spartoi. "Chiva Sinahabek!" Shi'ar. "Bah weep graanaah weep ninibong!" He had absolutely no idea where that came from. And yet, it wasn't responding, whatever it was.

I wonder if there are any people who need moving. Hopefully they will have been saved already. If they needed saving, then Lilith would do her best to help. Still, she was curious as to what she was following. Looking at her ring, the student wondered whether it was worth asking how long it would take. But considering that revision would be useful, the student decided that maybe she should try to calculate the whole thing mentally. It wasn't that easy, she would have to work in lightyears for the maths to be small. It wasn't like she could simply use meters per second and then quickly know her speed. So her mind was very occupied when the telepathic messages were sent. But she became aware of it, although she had no idea what was being said. The student wondered whether she should stop and think about how to respond. "Hi?" |
[/b] Lilith said out loud, not exactly sure how mental communicate would work. Surely it couldn't be every thought, so it would need to be directed... and quite probably amplified. I don't have an amplifier on me, nor a transmitter... The student thought. Then she wondered if it had to be compared to light waves, after all, the ring could do things with light that was not explained by the physics that was on earth. So maybe there was an open telepathic communication? So if she was acting as a reciever... could the link be both ways? Uh, hello. I hail from Sector 2841. Lilith thought, trying to push the thought outwards. Then, for good measure she repeated what she had thought out loud in case that worked. The student continued to move along the estimated path to the thing she was following and the collapsing star and she attempted to keep her mind clear in case something contacted her again. If the thing I'm following is giving out the thoughts, then when I catch up it might be easier to communicate! Lilith thought, this time not attempting to imagine thought projection and to keep her thoughts to herself. Keeping blue eyes open, the student speed on.[/div] tags: Nova word count: muse: Demonbane notes:Nice post. Love the languages. Sector 2841? Where was that? Richard asked the WorldMind to check the tactical grid and locate sector 2841. The display beamed into his helmet showed that, in the immediate area, sector 2841 was inside the collapsing sun. That wasn't true. He could see that the person he was talking to was clearly human. No-one could survive in a sun. Unless, they weren't referring to the immediate tactical grid. Perhaps they meant the larger, galactic sectoring grid. So he asked the WorldMind to see that. According to that grid, sector 2841 encompassed the planet Exodd-IV. That world was a barren, lifeless rock, floating out of orbit. So, unless she was lying, she came from a planet incapable of supporting life. Maybe a space colonist.
"So, let me get this right. You're from either inside the sun we're flying past, or a lifeless, orbitless planet." Richard transmitted his thoughts to her. "I get the feeling I might be missing something here." On Richard's grid, Xandar, or what remained of if, was sector 0. Maybe she used a different sector system than he. "I'm from Earth. What about you?"

Lilith waited for a response, the girl curious as to what the person might want. "So, let me get this right. You're from either inside the sun we're flying past, or a lifeless, orbitless planet." The girl frowned, she had felt sure that she got the right Sector. So maybe this person worked on a different system. It appeared that his sectors were more specific. "I get the feeling I might be missing something here." Lilith had to agree, although she was also wondering how it was that this communication was working.
"I agree. The sectors we use must be different. Are yours as certain as the planet and stars? The one I use isn't. But surely one as clear as a planet would have plenty of numbers in the system...."[/b] Lilith said, trying the thinking and speaking projection and hoping that it would work. "I'm from Earth. What about you?" That worked, Lilith had seen been following a trail from Earth. "I'm from Earth as well! I think I've been following you. I was curious."[/b] Lilith admitted. "I hope you don't mind."[/b] The student added, trying to make sure that it was projected to whoever was receiving it.
After a few seconds, her natural curiosity broke the silence. "How is this working? Am I communicating by speaking, which would be pointless in the vacuum of space or are my brain waves being picked up? And either way it has to travel at a good speed for the communication to be active. Is there some warping of space for the communication?"[/b] She asked. As a student studying astrophysics all these things really interested her and as a young scientist she questioned everything she could.

"You know, I'm not entirely sure myself." Richard admitted. It was a little embarrasing. He'd been around these powers since he was a teenager. And yet, here he was, unable to remember the fundamentals of space telepathy. "I'm sure the WorldMind will tell you everything you need to know. Won't you, Worldmind?"
"By your command, Rider." The WorldMind said in his mind. It began to transfer the exact details to Lilith's mind. By exact, it was down to the last unnecessary detail.
"You and Nova Prime are engaged in a conversation taking place mind-to-mind using a sophisticated form of telepathy dependent on Chronon waves that pass through space on a meta-sub-atomic level. Telepathic messages are picked up by these waves and relayed to sentient beings. Widely used among members of the Nova Corps during deep space missions. You are addressing Nova Prime, last centurion of the Nova Corps and primary defender of sentient space. The details being transmitted mind-to-mind are being relayed by the Xandrian WorldMind. Supercomputer and mission co-ordinator to the Nova Corps."
All Richard could say afterwards was "Get all that?"

Lilith was fascinated by meeting another person out in space and communicating! Ever since she was a child she had looked to the stars and hoped that one day she would be among them. And here she was. With another person from Earth as well! "You know, I'm not entirely sure myself." Lilith sighed and went back to trying to figure things out with the science that she already knew. "I'm sure the WorldMind will tell you everything you need to know. Won't you, Worldmind?" WorldMind? The student wondering what this could be. Maybe it was the source, a mind that linked all of this person's... whatever he had and thus created a sort of world. Or maybe it was just a cool name - Lilith couldn't be sure.
"You and Nova Prime are engaged in a conversation taking place mind-to-mind using a sophisticated form of telepathy dependent on Chronon waves that pass through space on a meta-sub-atomic level. Listening carefully, Lilith found herself wondering about Chronon waves, but she thought she got the rest of the information and understood it. "Get all that?" "Yes, all very interesting. Haven't heard of Chronon waves before but I can make sense from the rest of it. I'm guessing your name is Nova Prime, or the name you prefer to use?"[/b] Lilith asked, cheerfully as she flew towards his location. "I suppose you can call me Liath. I tried to go by that name. Or Blue Lantern. Whichever you prefer."[/b] she added. Names were probably a good thing to share as long as they were not the secret identity names; they were secret for a reason.
