Full Name: Colton Campbell
Code Name: Incubus
Age: 29
Date of Birth: January 24th
Sexual Orientation: Indiscriminate
Species: Human
Alliance: Brotherhood of Mutants
Citizenship: Marvel
Canon or Original?: Original
Hair: Colton keeps his light brown hair styled up in the front and neat, presentable, at all times to add to his allure (as if he needed help) and on occasion he’ll just leave it be and meander around with the bed-head look.
Eyes: His eyes are sharp, though tired looking at times, and a vibrant shade of bright green.
Height: 6’
Weight: 190 lbs
Distinguishing Marks: Colton bears a pair of tarnished angel wings tattooed across his back.
Appearance: Colton prides himself on his appearance, it’s part of his persona he built for himself. His hair is usually always styled forward and kept short, but on occasion he just brushes it forward and lets the bedhead look come out. Ladies love a little bedhead. And some guys do too, it all depends on which way you swing. He keeps his whiskers short as well and neatly trimmed, maintaining the rugged manly appearance that has worked for him so far. As such, Colton obviously pays a lot of attention to even the most miniscule details, his teeth, his nails, toenails, everything, making sure it’s all perfect and the way he likes it. He can sometimes be seen donning jeans, a t-shirt, and leather jacket but most of the time he favors a tailored white suit, carrying a concealed knife in both his overcoat and jacket at all times. He carries himself with an air of intense confidence and snarky attitude.

Personality:
Colton is a colorful character, quick to joke and jab at subtle personality traits or faults and almost always ready with a comeback. He’s smooth and suave, or at least he likes to think he is, but he hasn’t always had to use his powers to get what he wanted. Colton treats the world like his playground, always up for a challenge and ready to bring others down a peg. Often seen as cocky and confident in his abilities and just himself in general, always putting the job first. Or, almost always. This also tends to bring out a stubbornness in him, refusing to quit until the job is done unless someone bails him out of trouble.
Other times, Colton is patient and not easily frazzled. It takes a lot to get him worked up, but when one does they’re in for a hurricane of attitude and anger. But most people are. When he is finally pushed to his limit, Colton is loud and rash, taking chances that could easily get him killed if he wasn’t careful. At the same time, it makes him extra dangerous since some of his powers will flux if his emotions get out of control.
Powers:
Audiokenisis – Colton has the ability to control sound to an extent, causing an echo or throwing sounds to make them sound like they’re coming from somewhere else within ten feet of him. He can not limit what some people hear or allow himself to listen in on private conversations by making the sound travel to his ears. He can not create sound from nothing. He has to make it or it has to come from somewhere else. I.e. He can not make it sound like there’s a raging stampede in an empty room without a source. He uses this most commonly with music, making it appear that his other abilities are tied to the sound.
Acidic Blood – Just as the name implies, Colton’s blood as acidic. It has corrosive capabilities, able to eat through steel bars in a manner of seconds. He can not push this blood through his skin, it will only surface if he cuts himself somehow, bleeding like everyone else. His genetic mutation allows him to be immune to his own acid as well as a number of terrestrial acid compounds.
Pheromone Manipulation- Colton has the ability to control strong pheromones, chemical signals that trigger natural responses in members of the same species such as alarm pheromones, food trail pheromones, sex pheromones, and many others that affect behavior or physiology. This is how Colton usually controls his victims or enemies, hiding behind the sound manipulation to keep it secret. It is loosely tied in with his emotions, the more out of control he gets, the more out of control his pheromone levels become, growing to crazy levels and causing all sorts of messed up messages to his victims.
Weapons A custom L115A3 sniper rifle and concealed Ka-bar blade. Both are white.
Strengths/Abilities: Colton has Marine training background, Force Recon sniper training as well as expert hand-to-hand combat techniques. He is a master at subterfuge and subtlety, allowing him to often get in and out of the mission without even a scratch. Colton has also managed the perfect blend of his powers, causing panic and desire where he sees fit with a simple will of his mind.
Weaknesses: While physically fit, Colton isn’t by far the physically strongest man and is entirely mortal, frail compared to the rest of his comrades. He heavily relies on his reflexes and military training as well as powers to keep him out of harm’s way.
His pheromone powers are also limited to only humans/mutants, Asgardians and extra-terrestrials are unaffected by that particular ability.
Colton’s acidic blood also makes it difficult to treat wounds, often burning through bandages and mixing poorly with water sinks, often eating through the pipes and busting them.
History:
Colton was born in the little town of Sunset, Texas to Mary and Joseph Campbell. His father died when he was only two, so he had no memory of him and his mother did her best to care for him in his father’s absence. Life pretty much went on like normal, sad, but they had their happy moments just like any other family. That was until he was ten when his first power manifested itself. Colton started hearing noises, whispers from across the room, bangs and booms from outside, skittering sounds like insects inside his head, and he soon discovered that if he didn’t want to hear them, he didn’t have to. He could turn them off, or if he wanted to listen it would become louder, more prominent. His mother noticed these noises and strange things too, and that’s when Colton figured out he was controlling not only what he heard, but other people as well. He played around with his new ability for a few weeks, but stopped when his mother started to think she was crazy. Colton could hear her crying at night and decided to keep his new power to himself.
In the years between then and his fourteenth birthday, his mother had gotten a boyfriend. At first Colton didn’t approve, trying to drive the man away with his abilities but John, the man who had decided to move in on his life, grew on him. Eventually he started to see John as a real father figure and aspired to be just like him. Sometime after his fourteenth birthday, puberty hit. And like other boys he started to notice changes in his body, but unlike them Colton started to notice that people would act weird around him, usually mirroring how he was feeling at the time, happy, sad, hungry, even sleepy. It was odd and Colton took to trying his best not to act like everything so people around him would leave him alone. One day, while he was at home with John, watching the new movie with an actress he liked, he started to feel something in the pit of his gut. A desire rose in him, to touch, to kiss…other things he knew happened between a man and a woman. Before he knew what was happening, John was suddenly on him, his own need hot and heavy against Colton’s leg and the boy had no idea what was going on. John started kissing his neck, his hands ridding them of the confines of their clothes. Colton’s panic grew, this man he trusted was taking advantage of him, destroying his image and he couldn’t figure out why. His mother walked in on them with John on top of Colton and the boy crying for his mother. By the end of it, after the yelling and the harsh words, John had no idea what came over him and begged for forgiveness, but Mary wasn’t having it. She sent him away.
It wasn’t until he was sixteen that Colton started to figure out he could control people, that it was his fault that John acted like he had. That if he willed it, he could control what others felt at any given moment on an animalistic level and sometimes if he concentrated, he could control their emotions too. He would experiment on his classmates, controlling them how he saw fit with a combination of whatever it was that let him manipulate their base instincts and emotions and his ability to control sounds. One time, one of his experiments went awry and the school bully, in a rage, attacked him. The bully managed to cut Colton’s skin on his arm with his knife, but the blade started to melt before his eyes and Colton discovered his third power, using it to his advantage and smearing his blood on the bully’s arm, causing him to scream and run away from him. No one heard from the bully for several days until the police found him dead in the local woods, bled to death from lack of skin on his arm. That marked the first person Colton had ever killed. He carried the guilt with him until he was eighteen and he decided to leave before he hurt anyone else.
On the day Colton had intended to leave, American government officials of some sort had come to talk to his mother in regards to strange things going on in their town, centered around their home. Colton mentally cursed himself for not being more careful and jogged downstairs just as an officer lifted and pointed a gun at him. They said they knew what he was, and that he was to come with them or be killed on the spot. Colton’s panic rose for the first time since he was sixteen, and as a result, so did everyone else’s. One of the officers raised his gun, shouting about abominations and Mary jumped in front of Colton to protect him just as the shot went off. Colton’s mother died in his arms, apologizing to her son as she did. In his rage, Colton turned his powers on the men, using his abilities to turn them against each other. Only the commanding officer seemed to be aware of what was going on, trying to calm his men down and get a grip. Colton ran to the kitchen for a knife, cutting his own skin and slinging his blood in the man’s eyes. Blinded, the officer stumbled to defend himself, but couldn’t as Colton plunged the knife into his neck, letting his powers take care of the rest. Colton left shortly after burying his mother and burning the house with the bodies in it.
Using a different name, Colton managed to seduce his way into the military, training under the Marines. He had heard John talk about them and wanted to somehow pay respects to the man he grew up with as a father as well as gain the skills he needed to take his vengeance out on the government who took his mother from him. He underwent the vigorous training, learning hand-to-hand combat, sniper training, and covert operations. Soon he was an upstanding member of the Marine Force Recon, serving in the recent war and becoming near peerless with his sniper rifle. He served the American Government he hated for six years before “retiring”, leaving with a Honorable Discharge and a whole list of skills with which to push back on the bastards. Colton has since been spending the last year raising his funds, stealing from banks without breaking a sweat, leaving behind flustered men and women alike earning him the nickname “Incubus”.
Writing Sample:
It’s all for nothing. Everything he’s been living for, tossed out the window with a few simple words. Words that cut deeper than he should probably let them, but they came from the one person who’s more important to him than anything. “I don’t want him, or you, or Nathan…” Rio swallows a lump in his throat as he remembers what Noah yelled at him, throwing him against the wall.
“I don’t want you…”He figures this day has been a long time coming. He could feel himself being less and less useful and Rio supposes it’s been good while it lasted. Almost sixteen years of codependent support for one another until finally Noah, like the rest of his family, decides he doesn’t need him anymore. How long until Sarah says that to him? Or Lory even? How long until Rio DeGregorio is so insignificant that not even the maggots will bother with him when he dies? By the looks of things, not very much longer.
Rio looks out over the water from the small dock at his “usual spot”. He hasn’t taken anyone here that he hasn’t fucked, so he doubts Noah or Auntie knows where he is if they even bothered to look for the garbage that ran away from home. The slow pull from his cigarette gives him something else to concentrate on other than these self-deprecating thoughts that seem to pile up one on top of another. But as soon as he exhales, the distraction is gone and those words keep ringing out in his head.
He looks down at the water, eyebrow raised in curious thought. All it would take is a simple jump into the water, refuse to save himself, and he’ll be out of everyone’s lives forever. He wouldn’t kill anyone, hurt anyone, be a burden any longer. Rio almost does it, the idea of everyone’s smiling faces when they learn he’s gone so terribly bittersweet. But another voice in the back of his head keeps him sitting on the dock and, oddly enough, it’s not Noah. It’s Finn, telling him that if he dies, who is he supposed to share thoughts with? He entrusted his secret to him and they were going to work on it together. Rio scoffs, because really Finn was a small wedge in his and Noah’s relationship, thanks to those pesky feelings that just get stronger every time he thinks of that smile. But at the same time, Finn looks at him differently and isn’t directly related to him somehow. Even if nothing happened between them, Rio is sure he’d have this effect on him.
So he doesn’t jump. Instead he sits and broods, probably unnecessarily. He should go look for Noah. Make sure he’s okay. But there will be someone else to notice he’s gone, to help him through what he’s having now. Noah doesn’t want him. Not anymore. Now he’s just Noah’s used goods. Another pull of the cigarette finishes it off and he flicks it into the water, pulling another from his pack and holding it between his lips. He’ll apologize to Lory later.
