The slow squeel of the taxi's tires sounded throughout the metal car as it came to a stop. From Gotham to Metropolis a bit before lunch hour didn't take as long as Dinah figured it would. If she had left perhaps ten minutes after her original time then she would still be on the interstate, waiting in a line of cars to take the exit for Metropolis. She had enjoyed being back from Seattle. The town was too grey and rainy for her taste though it can be debated Gotham was just as dark and dreary. It was her home, it was her city along with others to protect. Things has happened in Seattle, it was as if the Black Canary wasn't allowed a break. She wasn't allowed to enjoy life. She held a metagene which caused her to be a bit more special than some, she wasn't 'normal'. She fought the bad guys in Seattle but only when she had to. In the end, Dinah came to the realization that a normal life was not in store for her, but one of crime fighting.
It's only been a few weeks since she had been back on the east coast. The world had gone off the rails. New heroes and villains from another universe, an alternate to their own crashed down upon them all. She knew she would be needed back home, she was once a member of the Justice League and she had full intentions of returning to the fold. It was why the blonde bombshell was headed to the Daily Bugle after all. The man of steel, the apparent leader, of the secret group lived his life there, had a job. It had been a year, maybe a year and a half since she had seen any of her old 'co-workers'. Superman, Batman, The Flash, The Question and a few others. She had cut herself off from the all in the hopes of starting a new with Oliver Queen but that wasn't in fate's cards.
"Keep the rest," She said as she handed the driver the green cash and about a ten dollar tip. She shut the door after she stepped out, her gloved hands slipped the strap of her purse up upon her left shoulder. Metropolis hadn't changed much since she left.
Dinah stood for a moment as she looked up at the building, the golden globe moving at such a slow pace. The busy people moved throughout the streets with purpose. Men and woman in fine suits chattered on their cellphones while their other hand held the beverage of choice. Mothers and fathers held the hands of their children. Dinah's glanced went down to the ground, a small sad tug of her lips. After her kidnapping and brutal attack Dinah had been left incapable of having a child as well as losing her Canary Cry. Though the brief romance with Ra's al Ghul allowed her the opportunity to take a dip in the Lazarus Pit and emerged with her Cry intact though Dinah had been too terrified to go through testing to see if she was capable of becoming a mother but refrained to prevent further grief, further sadness. She didn't have to know and just assumed otherwise.
Dinah cleared her throat and pushed locks of blonde over her shoulder. It wasn't the time to remain in her head, thinking thoughts that would just put her in a sour mood. She had worked with multiple therapists with the issue and knew she had to resume a normal life. Heels clicked against the cement as she moved towards the news building, she removed the gloves and placed them in her purse. The building smelt of paper, ink, and coffee as well as various perfumes and colognes worn by the busy workers of the Daily Bugle. Dinah walked over to the receptionist area, a kind smile upon her face.
"Clark Kent, please," She said as she waited for a moment. The receptionist told her where she could find the man and she thanked her before she turned and headed towards the elevators, noticing some of the reporters stopping to check the blonde bombshell out. Her hand tightened upon her purse's handle and moved it closer to her as she hit the floor button, a small coy smirk upon her full pink lips. Her thick lashes batted as she looked out into the lobby before the elevator doors shut. Dinah was a flirt after all and most times all it took was a look.
The red numbers climbed higher before she reached her destination, a ring sounded out as the doors opened up to reveal a hectic news area. Desks were littered with masses of paper, coffee cups, phones ringing off the hook. It was a much more stressful job than her own. She was a florist after all, the flowers didn't demand her attention in the way people did the reporters. They required peace and quiet, sunlight and water and a nurturing hand all of which Dinah provided, they were things in which she preferred rather than a busy day life such as Clark's. Dinah moved from inside of the elevator and through the doorway of Clark's floor. Bright blue eyes moved throughout the room as she spotted the back of the Man of Steel's head. Bingo. Dinah weaved throughout the desks, avoiding running into a person who was quick to return to their work. She reached her arm out and tapped Clark's left shoulder and as he would turn to look the Black Canary moved opposite, unseen, as she planted herself in the seat in front of his desk.
"I have a news report for you," She said with a smile when he turned to see who had spoken, "Friend returns from Seattle, shows up and demands a lunch date," She said as she rose from her seat to embrace Clark in a hug which she pulled him in tight. She had always felt safe when she was around him, the man was practically indestructible after all. "You can agree to come along or I drag you out by your massive biceps, you're choice." She threatened innocently. She was going to get her way, they had things to discuss. Besides it was five minutes to noon and she decided it was time for his lunch break.
