[Sportsmaster]

Lawrence "Crusher" Crock looked around at the goons around him, eyes narrowed. There were dozens of them, all pointing their guns at him. Sportsmaster put his hands up in the air in surrender.

"This is the guy who was sent to kill the boss? Huh. Didn't put up much of a fight," one of them said.

"Hell, I can get back to the bar in time for dinner," another exclaimed.

None of them noticed Sportsmaster slip a throwing knife into his hand. With brilliant accuracy, he hurled it at a thug, and it sank into his head. The thug screamed and fell to his knees, and then lay still. Heh. Not too shabby. Sportsmaster drove his fist into another goon's gut, sending him sprawling. More swarmed him, but he delivered a series of powerful blows to keep them at bay.

He flipped another man onto his back and broke his arm brutally. A scream of agony pierced the night air, and Sportsmaster kicked him in the head to shut him up. Soon enough, all thugs were dispatched. A satisfacted smirk crossed Sportsmaster's face, and he cracked his knuckles. "No wonder crime rates are at an all-time low. I've seen better thugs in Metropolis," Sportsmaster muttered to himself.

Humor aside, he had accomplished his task. The crime lord had been killed by his hand. Sportsmaster jumped down an already shattered sky-glass into a hall. He then took an elevator down to ground level and made his way towards the front entrance.

[Athena]

Athena was standing in the room, invisible, while she watched this man dispatch of his attackers easily. She had to admit, he was quite good, but he had killed an asset of hers. She wasn't going to take that lightly. He was a human and would use human tactics with him; they were too easy to kill and she didn't want him dead. Once he entered the elevator, she used a simple transporting spell to move to the main entrance. As this man started towards it, she finally revealed herself, wearing her full battle armor, but not wielding her weapons.

She watched as he moved closer and Athena spoke. "Hello, there. You killed a mortal that was... slightly important to me. Explain yourself." She said, speaking with the powerful voice only a god had.

Already she had tactics and strategies planning out in her head. She already had a general idea of his strength and had come to the conclusion that she'd certainly be able to teach him a lesson about messing with what belonged to a goddess, especially one such as her. She stood in front of those doors, as cold and calm as death, and waited for that man's response.

[Sportsmaster]

Sportsmaster was taken aback to see a tall woman in some kind of ancient battle armor. His eyes narrowed, he assessed her profile. She seemed lithe and strong, and had beautiful features; her beauty gave off an aura. Sportsmaster was also surprised at the woman's voice. It was deep and cold, as if the Earth itself was talking to him. "Mortal? Heh. You mean old bald-head. The crime lord. I doubt he was of any use to anyone. Even his own bodyguards hated him." The villain chuckled and then realized something. Mortal... if she called bald-head a mortal, then did that mean she wasn't one? "Wait a moment. You called bald-head a mortal, as if you ain't one. What the hell was that about?"

She did look godlike, now that he stopped to think about it. Her stature and poise screamed elegance as well as power, and her face was as fair as winter snow. Her armor seemed old and powerful. But Sportsmaster wasn't one to kneel before anybody, not even gods. He stood stiff and upright, radiating his own aura of intimidation. "So what the hell are you, some Egyptian goddess?"

Lawrence knew of the existence of gods. He had often come across Apokoliptan technology, forged in the fiery pits of Apokolips. Darkseid was the god-ruler of that wretched place, and Sportsmaster had heard many stories of the Dread Lord. But the woman seemed different; more calculating and probing, as if her mind was penetrating his own with a big metal drill.

Sportsmaster glared at her, waiting for a reply. He didn't appreciate anybody interfering with his work, especially not strange women clad in stranger armor.

[Athena]

When the man started to speak, she suddenly had an image of her brother, Ares, flash through her mind. The man in front of her spoke of the crime lord he had killed. True enough, that man had been corrupt beyond repair, but he had connections that had helped her on several occasions and now that he was dead, he was no help to anyone.

Athena listened as he chuckled. Then, he seemed to have the wheels turn in his mind as he thought about something. He was asking about her choice of words. She almost smiled at that. Almost. Athena had only recently taken to calling humans mortals again. She hadn't called them that since before she aided Odysseus. The man was thinking again and Athena waited patiently because she knew he'd probably say something else. Sure enough, he had straightened his posture and tried to look intimidating while asking if she was some Egyptian goddess. At this, she laughed; the first time in quite a while. Once she stopped she looked at him again and spoke.

"Apparently you are not up on your Greek mythology, or you would recognize my armor. I am Athena, Goddess of wisdom and warfare. I had that crime lord as a... puppet simply because of his connections. Said connections were useful from time to time. Not anymore, because you killed him and interfered with my business." Athena said.

Her thoughts went to Ares once more. He seemed so similar to him he could've been Ares in disguise. But this mortal wasn't, that much was certain.

[Sportsmaster]

Sportsmaster scoffed. "What the hell would a Greek goddess want with a crime lord anyway? What 'connections' did he help provide? Sportmaster smirked. This goddess undoubtedly had some hidden agenda. Not unlike himself, really. His new godly acquaintance had some secrets... It was of no matter anymore. Lawrence thought that Athena was persistent, he'd give her that. "Alright, so I killed your puppet. Tough. You gonna let me pass or not?" Sportsmaster glowered at her to show that he wasn't messing around here. He would throw his exploding discus at her if he had to.

Granted, the discus wouldn't have much effect on a goddess, but it could probably still give her a nasty burn on the side of her face. Sportsmaster wondered where the goddess had come from. Didn't the Greek gods have some sort of magical mountain in outer space? Oh, right... Olympus. He had read some Greek myths as a kid, and he liked the war god Ares the best. His bloodlust and domain of control made him an interesting guy. At least, to someone like Sportsmaster. Lawrence thought that Athena was much moe mild-mannered than he envisioned Ares to be. However, she seemed powerful nonetheless, and he figured that gods had a sort of base line for power, which every god had. It would certainly make sense. He wondered if Athena was as strong as Superman... she was definitely just as powerful, if not even more powerful.

If there was one thing in this world Frank hated besides mobsters, was being tailed by the same headlights for miles. He knew the person behind him was tailing him, but now the situation was very different. Frank found the assassin kneeling before him, after a brutal firefight. Frank was unscathed by the event, but the assassin had taken a bullet to the gut, which through his experience of the human anatomy, the bullet was placed perfectly for a kill-shot. "I'm only gonna ask you one more time... WHO ARE YOU WORKIN FOR?" Roared the Punisher has he glared in the man eyes. The helpless man could barely hold himself together, but in the end, he fed Frank the information he needed. With a quick draw of his sawed off shotgun, the man was blown back from the impact of the blast. Next thing you know Frank was off to find the crimelord in his van full of tactical arsenal.

Frank pulled up to the location and spotted a woman dressed weirdly blocking the doorway to the entrance. Whoever this woman was , she was either going to move out of the way or brute force would've been used. Just by the looks of it, she was yet another freakshow, but she was in Frank's territory of crime fighting. He then noticed another man standing before her, but why not kill two birds with one stone? The Punisher quickly got out of the van and opened the double doors to the back, sliding out an RPG. He threw the missile launcher over his shoulder and pulled the trigger, releasing the grenade from the end. The grenade zoomed directly towards the entrance of the building, and released a large explosion. Smoke exited the front, not letting Frank see his targets. Frank knew the man that was talking to the woman, was more than likely the man who tried having someone tail him.

[Athena]

Athena raised an eyebrow, looking at man before her. He was no longer amusing to her and simply becoming as annoying as Ares. She started walking towards the man, making it known with her body language that she was not messing around anymore. "You remind me of Ares... And that's not a compliment. He's hotheaded and speaks before he thinks. He's also the most arrogant fool I know." She gave him a cold stare, taking another step.

She almost spoke again when she heard it. She whipped around and saw the missile coming right towards the double glass doors behind her. Athena sighed. She didn't move as it came into contact with the building and exploded. It did not send her backwards, but it sent smoke all around her and the man behind her. She waited patiently for the smoke to clear before she looked for the source of the annoyance. There was a black van across the street and a man beside it. She raised an eyebrow, wondering who really wanted their attention and spoke. "It seems we have a friend." She said.

She started walking towards said van. A faint smile crossed her lips as she summoned her father's lightning. Thunder started to rumble and she also heard electricity around her. Using excellent accuracy, she aimed a lightning bolt a few feet from the man, intending to make him think twice before trying something foolish again. She didn't use violence unless she had to, but she was making a point, to the mortal behind her and the man across the street.

[Sportsmaster]

Sportsmaster smirked. "I remind you of Ares? Well you can shove that thought up your daddy's-" The sound of a missile alerted Sportsmaster, and his reflexes kicked in. He dove behind a wooden desk as the explosion sent random crap flying across the room. An RPG-7... The villain got to his feet and wasn't surprised to see the goddess unharmed. She then said that they had a friend and called down lightning from the sky, a few feet in front of the assassin. It was quite impressive, but it was clear that she was being a show-off. Sportsmaster raised an eyebrow. "Why didn't you just kill him?"

The assassin hurled an explosive discus at the van, causing it to burst in flames. He then pulled out "Hammer" and swung it overhead. This guy was up against a goddess and one of the world's best assassins. It was basically begging for a death warrant. Sportsmaster would be happy to give it to him. He slowly approached the van, "Hammer" in his hand. It would be considered heavy by most others, and even a professional athlete would have difficulty swinging it around. Sportsmaster easily swung it overhead, his eyes focused on the man.

What the hell had he been thinking? Well... it was too late now. Sportsmaster was about to hand his ass to him, the hard way. He lunged, "Hammer" coming down with great force. This was gonna be a long night.

Castle squinted his eyes through the cloudy smoke to get a clear visual of the situation, hoping he nailed his targets. As the dusting faded, the woman looked to have been in tact, surprising the hell out of him with a look of shock. The woman walked down the street towards him, revealing a large amount of lightning within her hand, but before he could keep his attention on the woman, an explosive device landed near his van. "Shit!" Yelled Frank as he quickly dove behind a taxi-cab for cover. The loud explosion rattled New York City, causing Frank to become filled with rage at the sight of his burning van. He gritted his teeth, standing up quickly but before he could, a large mace like ball flew at him causing Frank to lift the RPG-7 straight into the air. The large hammer, collided with the launcher breaking it right in half. The Punisher was very thankful it wasn't his head, but his RPG was replaceable.

Frank quickly rolled over out of cover and pulled both M9's from both hip holsters. With one gun aimed at the freakshow woman, and the other aimed at the other assassin, he pulled his triggerfinger multiple times releasing all 12 rounds very quickly. He then dropped both pistols back in the holsters and rolled an armed frag grenade towards the Sportsmaster's legs as he dove for cover back behind the taxi-cab. He turned his attention eyeing the woman, hoping the electricity wasn't heading his way. The Punisher pulled his micro-M4 from his right shoulder and aimed down the scope at Athena. "Ahhhhhh" yelled Frank as he began releasing multiple rounds at the goddess.

[Athena]

When the first mortal threw explosive and destroyed the bomb, Athena knew Ares had gifted this one with great skill in combat. She didn't quite know how she felt about that, but there was time for pondering later. Right now, she had a threat to deal with. She knew she'd have to actually use force because otherwise the second human would kill the first, and she couldn't have that quite yet.

She sighed and watched the attacker dive behind a yellow taxi. As he was standing up, she saw her 'ally' take a large spiked sphere and throw it at the other mortal. As he blocked with the RPG, she took that chance to charge more lightning in her hand. The man rolled from behind the car and aimed two guns at her and her 'ally' and shot simultaneously. 6 bullets came flying at her and she used her superhuman speed to dodge them easily. The man then threw what looked to be a grenade at her 'ally' and ran back under his cover.

When he looked at Athena, she laughed because she knew he was about to something else stupid. He pulled the gun off his back, which she now recognized as a micro-M4, and pointed it at her. She stopped walking and waited. When he pulled the trigger and started firing, Athena simply raised her left hand, palm facing her attacker, and stopped each bullet as it came towards her. Each round was frozen right in front of her, still slightly spinning. She looked him in the eyes. and spoke.

"It'll take more than that to harm me." She said.

Athena then used her magic to turn the bullets around to face who fired them. She then let them loose with the same velocity and trajectory.

[Sportsmaster]

Sportsmaster raised his hand to hurl another discus, but a bullet knocked it out of his hand. He watched as the assassin shot more bullets at Athena. She simply dodged them and redirected them at the foe. Sportsmaster's eyes widened momentarily. Not bad. He then ducked behind cover. This assassin - whoever he was - was good. The Sportsmaster rolled behind a mailbox (the big kind). His hand drew back, a knife in it. A bullet grazed his shoulder, and his aim went off. He hit the flaming wreckage of the van, and the knife simply ricocheted off. Then, the grenade bounced in front of him. Crap. He leaped to the side, but the impact still sent him reeling. He regained his bearings and got behind cover again. Sportsmaster had been disoriented by the explosion, but his vision was already clearing, and the shrill ringing in his ears had stopped altogether.

The assassin then brandished Hammer and charged. He hit a gas tank of the van and it started leaking. Sportsmaster threw down a lit match and flipped away. He put some good distance between himself and the van. He didn't want to get too close to the explosion, after all. The villain chuckled and joined the goddess. "We're gonna have ourselves a little barbecue tonight. What do you think?" Sportsmaster looked on, waiting for the explosion. Few were skilled enough or tough enough to survive an explosion of that scale. Hell, it might even rough Athena up a little.

Unknown to him, he had just encountered a dangerous anti-hero, who was probably skilled enough to do so.

Frank continued emptying his entire clip at Athena hoping he would get somewhere with this freak-show. When the gun had clicked it was immediate instinct to reload his weapon with quick speed, and he did just that. Before he could send off rounds with a new clip, his eyes widened. He slowly removed his eyes from the scope, to get a clear picture as to what he was seeing. The woman had stopped every single bullet he'd fired, causing him to reveal a face of disbelief. Frank watched as the bullets continued whizzing, but were stopped in mid-air. "It'll take more than that to harm me" she spoke coldly. Frank quickly took cover behind the taxi as he saw death in her eyes. The bullets came back and penetrated the taxi cab, but pieces of the bullets lodged straight into his left arm, causing him to grunt from the immediate shock.

Frank clutched his left arm, panting heavily. The impact of the bullets seemed much more powerful from the mere hand of the woman, rather it coming from the end of a barrel. He was completely shocked at the freakshow's powers, but it wasn't his time to die, not yet. There was still unfinished business left to do in the city, before he joined his family. Frank wasn't afraid of death and never begged for his life. He was a broken man, and would've accepted death no matter what happened. Frank looked over at man that lodged his hammer at the van. The immediate smell of gas filled his nostrils, "We're gonna have ourselves a little barbecue tonight. What do you think?" Frank's eyes widened as he continued clutching his bleeding arm.

Before he could take a step forward, a large explosion sent him flying across the pavement like a sack of potatoes. Frank opened his eyes, and could only see blur. His entire body was covered with lacerations, and black tar. Frank's ears drizzled with blood, knowing very well that his eardrums had ruptured from the explosion. His shirt was completely ripped revealing his built chest, and abs. Frank slowly began to sit up, hoping the two didn't spot him. He pulled out his pistol from his hip, but noticed it was jammed. He had no clue as to where his rifle was nor his shotgun. He pulled his hunting knife from the holster upon his ankle, and limped towards through the black smoke. He wasn't done yet, not by a long-shot. Frank would've kept coming until his body was done. If bullets weren't going to faze this freak, then he needed to see what a blade would've done.

[Athena]

Athena shielded her eyes from the explosion, wondering if the Punisher had survived. She looked at the man beside her and frowned. She did not know him, and had almost liked him for a time. She wasn't a fan of flashy explosions. True they could cause distractions, but they also drew things that often were not good. She looked to the cab that had exploded and looked for some sign of the other man, hoping that somehow he was still alive, though seeing through the smoke was difficult. She started towards the vehicle, keeping a lookout for any sign of a weapon being drawn against her. As she approached the car, she still saw no sign of the man. She sighed and grabbed the front of the car.

Using some effort, Athena lifted it up and and walked as she moved her left hand down to make the car stand on edge. She ignored the burning on her left hand; she knew it would not harm her enough to impair her abilities in any significant way. She saw a figure through the smoke lying several feet from the wreckage. She pushed the car and it flipped upside down. Athena started towards the figure again, watching his body language for any sudden change. She slowed, watching him sit up and eventually stand. She stayed still, hoping he hadn't noticed her yet. She spoke, making sure her voice projected all around him.

"Mortal. Why did you attack us? Did the man I was with do something to cause your wrath?" Athena said, keeping her voice calm and as 'warm' as she could manage.

[Sportsmaster]

Sportsmaster then grimaced. He had a cut on his stomach, but the adrenaline had rendered him bereft of pain. Now that he was back to normal, he felt the severe pain coursing through his torso. He assumed a kneeling position as the goddess approached the flaming wreckage. Why was she so kind towards him anyway? He had just tried to blow them up, for heaven's sake! Lawrence clutched his stomach, his pain receptors going crazy. He grunted and got to his feet with some effort. Whatever else he could say about the enigmatic goddess of wisdom he had just encountered... she was one crazy chick.

Sportsmaster limped towards the wreckage as well, a knife in his hand just in case things got messy. Looking through the veil of smoke, Sportsmaster tried to located his foe. Athena found him first and asked him why he did this. Sportsmaster grimaced again and assumed a kneeling position. "Just kill him. He doesn't deserve consideration." It was a bit harsh, but hey - he was a villain. They had to be harsh. It was in their non-existing book of unofficial rules.

Sportsmaster looked the guy over. He was scuffed up pretty badly. Lawrence spotted multiple extensive injuries and lacerations. But the guy was very muscular, indicating a healthy body. He would recover soon enough. Sportsmaster gave it a week or two before he was back to normal.

The Star-Spangled Avenger was called to the scene of explosions erupting from a building not far from his location. The NYPD didn't want to have anything to do with whatever was occurring, especially after the destruction of the Hulk. For the sake of the officer's lives, Steve agreed to step in and gather intelligence on the domestic situation. Every time an explosion had occurred, another Chitauri invasion would always cross his mind. The invasion was a brutal battle, but pulled towards the Avenger's advantage. They were a threat to be reckoned with, and if anyone else had the urge to follow another coup attempt, then the Avengers were on call like a nuclear football.

Rogers road his 1942 Harley Davidson WLA Liberator through the streets of Downtown, flying through traffic like a bat out of hell. He needed to arrive on the scene quickly to stop whoever was causing the terrorist acts. Steve darted onto another street, trying to get there as fast as he could. Civilians waved from the sidewalks as he flew down the street continuing to dodge other vehicles. Steve was dressed in his costume, ready for battle if need be. His shield was placed at the front end of his motorcycle, and would've crushed any type of metal in his path. He darted around another street and began to spot multiple plumes of dark smoke.

The scent of burning fuel, and bomb residue filled his nostrils as he drew closer to their position. As he rode his motorcycle closer to the location, he spotted the sight of two burning vehicles, along with a badly wounded man and two others who appeared to be teaming up. Steve flipped off the bike, grabbing his shield in the process, landing with both feet on the concrete behind the woman and the man who was kneeling. "What the hell is going on here!?" asked Steve as he held his shield in front of him, being very cautious. Whoever had caused the damage and had disturbed the peace, was going to answer for it. Steve looked through the cloud of smoke and spotted another figure limping his way towards the couple, holding what seemed to be a knife. Steve glared at the figure, and boomeranged his shield at the unknown presence through the smoke. The disc shaped vibranium shield flew mere inches away from Sportsmaster's head, but made its way towards the armed presence.
