Welcome
It all started when a crystal dropped into existence, punched a hole in time and space and landed into the lap of one the most insane men to ever walk the Earth.
At first, the clown didn't know what he had been gifted with, stuck in his cell in Arkham, staring at the reddish purple crystal laying innocently on the dirty stone floor.
And then the voices started, telling him of another universe, talking of power and chaos beyond what he could have ever dreamed.

It was polite. When Raven had visited others in the past few months she had been offered tea and even dinner at one time. She felt like a bad host if she didn't offer and was about to ask when Razer spoke in reply to her words about getting things for his room. "I am not going to take your money for something as frivolous as decoration. I am already imposing upon you. In any case, I doubt there is anything I would want to buy. As long as it is warm and dry, it would be an improvement upon where I normally sleep."
That was some relief to Raven, in truth she didn't have much money, being a hero did not offer payment and although teams occasionally got sponsored so they could build things like the Titans Tower, it did not give her a roll of income. It was difficult enough getting a job to bring in money if your school records where sketchy. "Very well, but are you sure I can't offer you some refreshments such as some tea?" |
Raven asked, she was pretty sure she had some tea bags in the kitchen and boiling water was no difficulty. There were often things that Raven dealt with, including the emotional environment around her. Often she would describe it as her curse and the teenager knew that she deserved such a curse for her heritage and the actions she had taken when under her father's influence. "Very well. If you don't think it will prove a problem, then I will not concern myself with it." The Titan hoped that Razer would be true to his words. After all, it was her curse to bear and it was not one that she wished to share. Even when Gar had offered to try and help she had turned him away. The topic of Sinestro's actions against Razer still bothered Raven - she was unable to understand why Razer would be put in such a position by Sinestro. Both of them were nice Lanterns as far as the Titan could tell. "Well, in this instance, I suppose I am thankful he did not follow the rules. If he had, I would either be dead, or imprisoned on Oa. My time here, at least, can have a purpose." Thinking about this, Raven wondered if Razer had a history of crime, like how she had a less than positive past. His attitude about killing would support that thought but he appeared willing to change. That was the important thing and he was working against the murderers. "I'm guessing your past is not something that the Green Lanterns would support then? And something you'd rather not talk about." Raven said gently, wondering what answer he would give although she would not press for one. Talking about the child was something that Raven found slightly relaxing. It was not often that she thought about those left behind. Razer was better than her in that case. The Titan simply moved in, faced those she viewed as the villains and then left. Talking about the child's fate made her think of the brighter possibilities, despite the fact that there may be some negative ones. "I hope he will not hold anger in his heart with the loss of his parents...but I cannot fault him for it if he does. I...will trust in your words, though.""If he does have anger from the events of today it will not be because of you. You have given him gratitude and hope that there will be those who can and will face the threats that arise." Raven said, not including herself in her words. It was Razer who needed to know that his actions had been good. "That sounds quite useful indeed...it must come in handy quite often. I take it that was how you were able to find the crime scene....and me?" Raven nodded, remembering the emotional disturbances she had felt which led her to the murdered parents and Razer. "I felt their dying emotions, their panic and fear, as I sat in meditation. While on the way to their home I felt your rage." The Titan replied, thankful that she only really noticed the emotions of the dying when they were close or when it was due to some horrendous crime - like today. At the offer of tea, Razer rubs his forehead in annoyance "I thought I had just told you that I didn't need anything? If you really want to, I will accept it, but it seems like a waste to me. I take it it isn't difficult to prepare?" There was an extent to where he would humor the girl, but if it was of any difficulty, he would deny it, or, if she was particularly insistent, do it himself. It was foolishness, but if it was honest and harmless foolishness, he wouldn't put up a fight.
As they talked, the conversation shifted to his past, as an explanation for this imprisonment Sinestro placed on him. Raven's inquiry caused him to smirk. "You don't know what the Red Lantern's are. I am sure that 'not support' is quite an understatement. I have no problem talking about it...it is something you deserve to know."
Smirk fading, the expression Razer holds becomes deadly serious. "Our group is at war with the Guardians of Oa, and by extension, their peacekeepers, the Green Lanterns. Our leader, Atrocitus, lost everything to their Manhunters, his entire planet was destroyed. In return for the power to achieve our individual vengeances, we join his crusade. His group, in turn, sees us as monsters addicted to rage and vengeance, and for the great majority, he is right. It is a war with justification on both sides."
While he did not view things himself in that light, he new a great many members of his corps did fit Sinestro's description. They allowed their feelings of anger and rage for their slights to get in the way of their goals, and many became the same thing they despised with all their being. Sinesto's words made him seem the same way...made him question whether what he was doing was right or not, something he would never have questioned just a few months before.
"And in any war...there are casualties. I had expected to be one of them. Sinestro obviously had other ideas for me, though I have yet to understand it."
Raven's words had a very comforting effect on the alien, who, after allowing her to speak and taking the words in, gives a slow nod. In truth, the child's fate meant a great deal to him...it echoed his own. He wanted to believe that Raven was right, that his loss would not plunge him to the same depth of despair he had fallen to. "I...hope you are correct. It would be ease my conscience on the matter." He would probably never lose his hatred of oppression, but if his hatred could inspire others to avoid following the same path...he was content.
As she explained how she could use her powers to tell the location of crimes, Razer pursed his lips. Her powers to control emotion must be more powerful than he thought, if she was able to withstand the fear most sentients held for death. It was a sobering thought. His rage had affected her, but even he discounted how deeply it ran, only to be reminded each time he recalled his past...and every time the ring dragged out the memories to fuel his power.
"I do not envy your position, but it has been quite helpful in this matter. I hope that isn't something you have to go through on a regular basis...that much fear and pain is enough to destroy someone."

It had annoyed Razer and she guessed that it would have been best to remain in silence. "I thought I had just told you that I didn't need anything? If you really want to, I will accept it, but it seems like a waste to me. I take it it isn't difficult to prepare?" "It's sort of a custom on Earth to offer refreshments such as tea and I do not believe that I am being that good a host. I don't often have guests," |
Raven said, wanting to prevent Razer from getting further annoyed. "Besides, I was thinking about getting some for myself and it is easy to prepare." As they spoke about Razer's relationships with the Green Lanterns, Raven watched his smirk. "You don't know what the Red Lantern's are. I am sure that 'not support' is quite an understatement. I have no problem talking about it...it is something you deserve to know." Then his face became serious. Raven did not know what Red Lanterns were although she assumed that they were similar to the Green Lanterns. Without word, Raven listened to the rest of Razer's explanation. It is a war with justification on both sides."It was something that the teenager understood although she didn't like how death would be one of Razer's expected 'punishments' for being a Red Lantern. If anyone was to be punished it should be because of the deeds that they had committed, not because of what group they joined. If people were punished because of the group or team they joined then order would break down. Raven's own mother had been a cultist. The Titan understood that not everyone she may face were working for what would be considered the 'bad' or the 'evil'. "And in any war...there are casualties. I had expected to be one of them. Sinestro obviously had other ideas for me, though I have yet to understand it."Well, it made more sense now that she had the whole picture. Although Raven hoped that Sinestro was going to be nice to Razer and not be too judgmental of him just because he was a Red Lantern. His talk about the war reminded Raven of when Sinestro had spoke about a war that he had in the past. "I think... Sinestro was in a war in the past. Maybe he wants to make sure that you have the best out of this situation." She suggested, her voice soft as she thought about it. If Sinestro thought he had gotten the best out of it, then maybe Razer would be considered his apprentice. If Sinestro thought he could have gotten out of the battle better, maybe he was trying to give that to Razer. It was a light thought but Raven found it the nicest thought to entertain. The child's future was spoken about next and Raven noted the effect that it seemed to have on Razer and herself. They both seemed to draw some comfort from it. "I...hope you are correct. It would be ease my conscience on the matter." Raven hoped she was correct as well. After all, her mother had not fared too well from her encounter with the she had joined cult at the start. But the child was young, hopefully that would help. "If you want, if you think it would help, I can always see if you can visit the child." She offered. Then they spoke about her empathy. It was a difficult power to have, useful and harmful at the same time. "I do not envy your position, but it has been quite helpful in this matter. I hope that isn't something you have to go through on a regular basis...that much fear and pain is enough to destroy someone." Raven looked at her hands as she thought about the emotions that she had gone through. It hadn't destroyed her and she had never considered that possibility. Unless feeling it was the reason why she went demonic... "I can cope. And my empathy also allows me to heal quickly as well as healing others."[/style] tags:Razer word count: ??? muse: Various notes: None Table Layout By BRY, 2012[/style]

Once Raven explains that it is custom, easy, and was already planning on it, Razer relents. No sense drawing something inconsequential into an argument if there was a way to avoid it. Signaling his acquiescence with a wave of a hand, Razer gives her a nod. "Very well, if you insist. I don't have a reason not to take some, if you want to give it to me. And you are being a perfectly acceptable host, so don't worry about that." Raven had seemed a bit worried about that, and he wanted to dispel that notion as soon as he could. Having a room and bed was more than enough for him, he felt awkward accepting much more. It felt like a debt to him, as well as making himself less self-sufficient.
As he explained to Raven the nature of the conflict between Green and Red Lanterns, he tried to gauge Raven for any reactions. As he expected, there was very little he could see in her expression, she was far too good at masking emotions for that. Still, her words seemed conciliatory to both of them. It was more than likely she had a good opinion of Sinestro, and wanted to think the best of him. Which made sense, since Green Lanterns were generally considered heroes of whatever sector they served.
"Perhaps. However, I am unsure. Whatever his goal is, I have not been informed of it. It is puzzling to me, at the moment. Though, he is willing to teach me some things, so I suppose he cannot simply want me to fail and die. That is some relief, at least."
He could not understand why Sinestro wanted to be a teacher for him, but even he could admit he could use the help. He always considered himself powerful, but if there were more enemies of Sinestro's strength, he could not imagine his role in Atrocitus' crusade would have lasted much longer. He wondered if he could have done better in the fight had he taken Sinestro seriously from the start, learning he was not invulnerable was a lesson that had sunk in to him. Then again, he doubted many Green Lanterns had the bravado to claim they had fought and bested Atrocitus, so it was probably just bad luck on his part. Though...the fact that the Lantern who did beat him chose not to kill him balanced that scale somewhat, so he wasn't sure how things fell.
On the topic of the child, Raven's offer, like so many things, caught Razer off guard. He hadn't expected to see him again, and while the offer was tempting, he didn't want to bring the memories back to the child. "Thank you, but I will have to pass. Perhaps in a few years, to see how he has adjusted. Right now, I can only think it will have a negative impact on him."
Razer's words on her powers were met with ambivalence, whether it was her natural reticence to showing emotion, or simple stoicism, it impressed Razer. The emotions he had spoken of; fear, loss, and pain, had nearly destroyed them before rage took hold of his heart. Perhaps he was simply weaker than she was, or maybe it just came from being used to it. "Then you are quite strong, Raven, stronger than most sentient beings. I suppose I need to stop underestimating you."

"Very well, if you insist. I don't have a reason not to take some, if you want to give it to me. And you are being a perfectly acceptable host, so don't worry about that." Raven relaxed as Razer said that and went into the kitchen. "I'll still be able to hear you from here and it won't take long to make the tea." |
Raven told him, getting out a tea pot and putting some water on to boil. Getting out some tea bags she placed them in the tea pot and got out some milk and sugar as well as two cups. Returning as she waited for the water to boil, Raven had listened to the talk about the war between the Green Lanterns and the Red Lanterns. Personally, Raven preferred to avoid war but sometimes it happened and she could get caught up in it. "Perhaps. However, I am unsure. Whatever his goal is, I have not been informed of it. It is puzzling to me, at the moment. Though, he is willing to teach me some things, so I suppose he cannot simply want me to fail and die. That is some relief, at least." Raven listened to Razer's words, thoughtfully comparing what he told her about Sinestro and what she knew about the Green Lantern. The sound of the kettle caught Raven's attention before she could get too deep in thought. "You'll have to excuse me for a few seconds. Tea's nearly ready." Raven said, getting up and heading back into the kitchen. Pouring the water into the tea pot she then brought the tea, cups, sugar and milk through, using telekinesis to keep everything steady before putting it down on the table. "The tea will be hot. Feel free to help yourself or not if you prefer." Raven said, pouring herself a cup and adding some milk and sugar. "You can add milk or sugar to tea, or drink it without either." Raven explained not sure if they had tea where Razer came from. "Thank you, but I will have to pass. Perhaps in a few years, to see how he has adjusted. Right now, I can only think it will have a negative impact on him." Listening to Razer's words, Raven nodded. She would probably be able to locate the child again. She could find people based of their emotional signature. They may be changing emotions constantly but everyone had their distinct print as it were. One of the interesting things that Raven realised was that it sounded like Razer intended to stay for a few years. The Titan was glad to know that she would have company for a few years. But did Razer have no where to go back to? Raven hadn't considered this and she remembered his earlier grief. Where they somehow linked? Raven supposed if she were allowed to feel she would have grief over the loss of Azarath but would it be as strong as Razer's grief had been? Taking a sip of tea, Raven sighed softly. She often found that tea helped her balance her emotions, similar to meditation but not as effective. "Then you are quite strong, Raven, stronger than most sentient beings. I suppose I need to stop underestimating you." The Titan didn't think she was strong, it was just what she had to do. "I'm not that strong. It's just what I have to do. I have improved. I used to not be able to cope with as much. When I first came to Earth I would not have been able to cope with many of the emotions and I would have avoided the conflict altogether. Everyone learns and grows." Raven explained, taking another sip of tea as she thought about her empathy. The healing side of it was the best part of it. "Besides, positive emotions such as hope and happiness allow me to heal rapidly. So I guess that's the flip side of the coin."[/style] tags:Razer word count: ??? muse: Various notes: None Table Layout By BRY, 2012[/style]

As Raven goes to start the tea, assuring him that she could hear him from the kitchen, Razer turns in his seat, so he can observe what she's doing. His ring's universal translator had informed him of the definition of tea, that being boiled water flavored with leaves, but it intrigued him slightly. The thought was unappetizing, but so were many delicacies of his home, when things were thought out. However, he couldn't see much, as Raven returned after setting water on a pot to boil. However, the different array of materials she had placed on the table confused him. How could all of those different containers contribute to flavored water?
Once she returned, Razer continued to explain his reasoning on Sinestro's goals. While Raven didn't reply, her focus made it clear to him that she was listening, and probably needed time to think. That was of little consequence to him...he had given her a good deal of information, and it would likely need time to process. He had needed it with Raven's explanation of her life, and he would not begrudge it to her.
When Raven left to get the tea, Razer stood up to accompany her, that seemed like a lot of things for the girl to carry, and there was little point in wasting time taking two trips. However, as he stood up, Raven was already using her telekinetic powers to levitate the cartons over. It was unexpected, but not really surprising. He had gotten used to not using his powers for convenience since Sinestro had made it inconvenient for him, but Raven was under no such restriction. Razer sits back down, and listens to Raven's advice on drinking the tea. "I will drink it plain, at first. No sense adding extra flavoring if the base is not understood." Taking sips of the tea, Razer found it palatable, if not anything to go crazy for. It was a perfectly serviceable drink, and would probably only get better as he experimented with it.
Razer's unthinking words told him much about the current state of his mind. He had not thought about what will happen, he assumed that he would either be dead, or remain on Earth without the status quo ever shifting. Razer was not the type to think ahead. No Red Lantern really was, their existences were defined by their vengeance. This was a situation where he might achieve it in, and that was what mattered. The future would either settle itself, or he wouldn't have to worry about it. The time when he didn't think like that was nothing but a rapidly fading memory.
As Raven explained her opinions about her power and the emotions she undergoes, Razer could not help but admire her. Refilling his cup of tea, and this time experimenting by adding some sugar to it, Razer gives a hum. "That...makes sense, I suppose. I admit, I was much less controlled than I am now when the ring first chose me...time spent as an unthinking monster will do that to you, if you have any shred of control left."
As Raven mentions positive emotions, Razer looks down. "I am sorry, but I'm not sure you'll be able to get much of those out of me. Hope is the realm of the Blue Lanterns, and happiness...well, it may not power a ring, but it is difficult to find coexisting with anger."

The teenager was still thinking about what might be the reasons behind Sinestro's treatment of Razer. It was certainly better than killing him and fitted with the impression that Raven had of Sinestro. The best she could think about was that Sinestro was trying to teach Razer and give him a better chance. There would be some thought process behind all of this. Even if it was as simple as saving Razer's life and trying to keep him out of harm's way.
"I will drink it plain, at first. No sense adding extra flavoring if the base is not understood." The Titan nodded, it was a wise decision. Raven was used to drinking tea and knew how she liked it although she could cope with more or less tea and sugar. "Well, if it amounts to anything, I'm glad Sinestro did not turn you over to the Guardians. Your company is nice. How are you finding the tea?" |
She asked, placing her cup down as she spoke to the Lantern. Be herself, Raven doubted she would have been able to save the child (or with as much ease) and she wouldn't be having such a pleasant time right now. The teenager sighed, brushing her hair away from her face as she thought about the cult once more. They were gaining power and that was not good. If they continued she would be forced to have to try and disperse them again. The teenager knew that she would be plagued by this worry until the situation was sorted. It caused Raven to shudder slightly as she remembered that she had been brought back to life by the blood of their worshipers. Before she had questioned being reborn in a younger body but now she questioned whether it was right for her to have been brought back by the cult. Even if she had escaped their evil intent she was still a possible threat to the world. "That...makes sense, I suppose. I admit, I was much less controlled than I am now when the ring first chose me...time spent as an unthinking monster will do that to you, if you have any shred of control left." Watching Razer as she listened to his words, Raven thought about the flip side, having too many emotions and then learning to control them. It sounded more difficult than learning how to deal with the emotions around her. "It must take a lot of practice to control such strong emotions and with little guidance." Raven said, she thought little of her own ability to control her emotions; she had been taught since birth and that did pay off. Powers based off emotion were always interesting and Raven at times found herself wondering what it would be like to have to feel emotions to make things take effect. To be encouraged to feel. It almost made the Titan give into emotions. "I am sorry, but I'm not sure you'll be able to get much of those out of me. Hope is the realm of the Blue Lanterns, and happiness...well, it may not power a ring, but it is difficult to find coexisting with anger." Raven shrugged as she finished her tea and poured herself another cup. "It does not matter. Your company is nice and you are considerate and able enough to keep your emotions under control. I have spent time around worse emotions and of a stronger degree." The Titan replied in an effort to make sure that Razer did not feel bad about not having the positive emotions that benefited Raven.[/style] tags:Razer word count: ??? muse: Last of the Mohicans notes: None Table Layout By BRY, 2012[/style]

Razer gives a huff of annoyance at Raven's words, but allows the compliment to slide. He still couldn't understand how Raven enjoyed his company as much as she did. The average human must be some kind of inherently annoying lout for him to be spoken of this highly.
"The tea is fine. It has a slightly bitter taste to it, but nothing overpowering. And the heat it imparts makes it soothing to drink. I think some sugar should help with the taste. As for Sinestro...well, as much as I would like to think otherwise, that decision has not been made yet. At any point Sinestro could either kill me, or take me to Oa."
Razer does not hold out much hope for the future, not when it is dictated to him by an enemy. At the very least, though, he had some time to spend, either following his passion for fighting oppression, or by planning some way to regain his power battery. Then again, his agreement to stay at Titans Tower could limit those...not by much if it was only Raven with him, she was helpful for the former. But if the Titans were to return, a possibility Raven herself had noted, and he became put under tighter scrutiny, it would be harder for him to work against the Green Lantern, lauded as he was by many of Earth's people. He would have to plan for it.
As Razer refilled his tea, sprinkling some sugar experimentally into the cup, Raven caused him to look up from the preparation. He had to wonder which was more difficult, keeping others emotions out of you, or containing your emotions inside of you. He didn't know, and it was pointlessly academic to try and debate it, but he was curious nonetheless. "I do not want to be controlled by my anger, I desire to control it. To wield it as a weapon. It doesn't matter whether it's difficult or not...I will not be reduced to the level of an animal while I have a say in the matter." Razer's views on controlling his anger had been present, but undefined prior to Sinestro's teaching. The thought that the Green Lantern was having any kind of influence on him sickened him, and he moved to change the subject. "Besides...I doubt it is any more demanding than what you have gone through yourself."
Razer sighs. More compliments. He considered allowing more of his annoyance and general dislike be apparent, but that wouldn't be fair to the girl who was his host. So, he forces himself to give a smile, forgetting entirely that Raven can see into his emotions and tell that it isn't backed up by anything. "That's...very kind of you to say." As he continues, he grows more genuine. "I'm glad you find my company tolerable. I would hate for you to regret offering me a room here...I...have not had someplace I could call home in a very long time."

[atrb=border,0,true][style=width:430; height:490; background-color:000000; padding:5; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:11px; color:78747F; overflow:auto][style=float:left; margin-right:10px] She could sense Razer's annoyance at her compliment and the teenager looked into her tea. Often she tried to be careful when it came to emotions. She didn't want to simulate them. It did no good for anyone. Annoyance and anger were some of the ones that Raven was especially cautious about, doing her best to make sure that she did not cause those. It was difficult, though. There were so many different trips that could set them off that the Titan's only real chance was remembering which ones to avoid with which people and back tracking when she sensed the emotions begin to rise.
"The tea is fine. It has a slightly bitter taste to it, but nothing overpowering. And the heat it imparts makes it soothing to drink. I think some sugar should help with the taste. As for Sinestro...well, as much as I would like to think otherwise, that decision has not been made yet. At any point Sinestro could either kill me, or take me to Oa." It did not seem right that Sinestro could kill Razer just because Razer was a Red Lantern and Raven wondered how different things might be outside of earth. She had never really gone into space, let alone had the chance to understand the intergalactic rules and social conducts.
"I do not agree with the thought that you should be persecuted because of you being a Red Lantern but I suppose the Laws that govern the universe are different to the ones that I experience on earth." |
The Titan eventually said, taking her time in thinking of an answer. Even in war it was wrong to kill and Raven would maintain this view as best she could. As the topic moved on to controlling emotions such as anger, Raven considered the few times that she had felt anger herself. Occasions when she had come from seeing her father, the time when her half-brother influenced it within her own very being. It took a lot of effort to control and she was thankful for the teachings of the monks of Azarath. "I do not want to be controlled by my anger, I desire to control it. To wield it as a weapon. It doesn't matter whether it's difficult or not...I will not be reduced to the level of an animal while I have a say in the matter." It was a wise decision and Raven agreed with it although she did not speak as she was taking a drink of tea. "Besides...I doubt it is any more demanding than what you have gone through yourself.""I was raised from birth to not feel emotions. For over a decade of my life it was forbidden to show any emotion towards me. I think that I may have been let off lightly when it comes to dealing with emotions." As Raven again complimented Razer, she felt his annoyance and despite the smile, she knew it was an empty sentiment. "That's...very kind of you to say. I'm glad you find my company tolerable. I would hate for you to regret offering me a room here...I...have not had someplace I could call home in a very long time."]"You don't need to say that. I can sense how you feel. I am sorry for annoying you, I did not mean to." Raven said, never being one to accept it when people acted differently to their emotions or hide them. The rest seemed to be more real in their meaning, though. And Raven thought about Razer's words of home. "If you don't mind me asking, what is your home like?" Raven asked, curious as to what Razer's own home was like.[/style] tags:Razer word count: ??? muse: None notes: None Table Layout By BRY, 2012[/style]

Razer could tell that Raven had taken a great deal of thought into her words, and the pause had certainly been long enough for them. He was slightly annoyed at himself for requiring such thought from her, he wanted her to be able to speak her mind. But then, her powers gave her insight others would not, so who was he to judge on the matter? Her belief was odd to him. The Green Lanterns were tasked with preserving the leadership of the Guardians of the Universe, and the Red Lanterns seek their end. It was simple enough reason for him to understand. But then again, customs and beliefs among humans were quite different from his own, and Raven could easily be just another example of that.
"Your belief, while noble, is unfounded. My corps is not blameless in our struggle, our fight has killed many Green Lanterns...as have I. I am not being persecuted for merely associating with a group...I am fighting as a soldier, as are they. And yet, Sinestro takes me as a prisoner of war, and brings me here. Perhaps his morality is similar to yours...though from what I have seen of him, that is not the case at all."
Reasons for why Sinestro would take him prisoner instead of killing him form slowly in his mind. Was he trying to dissuade him from the cause? That was certainly a possibility, though it didn't explain why he didn't just kill him. He could have taken pity on him, but that just causes a flash of anger to form in his mind that he quickly dampers, so as not to bother Raven. He was not going to allow himself to be pitied, not by some pompous Green Lantern.
He was distracted from his reverie by Raven's words, which he finds provide a nice little lens into why she is the way she is. Emotions are not easily bound, but when confined in such an obviously masterful and deliberate way, it was rather clear how she had as much a hold over it as she did. However, that did act as a slight disappointment to him. If her control was based around a society that molds that particular aversion to emotion from a very young age, then there would probably not be much that she could teach him about control. He would need to keep working at it himself, if that was the case.
"That sounds rather excessive, though with the circumstances you were placed in, perhaps not. In any case, the effect was positive in your case...and not so easily adapted to mine. I suppose there won't be some easy way to control I could learn from you, with the differences in our situations."
Despite his attempts to hide his annoyances, Raven's empathetic abilities quickly found it out, and brought it to light. "I...it is not your fault. Just don't compliment me so much, I don't deserve them, and words without meaning are worthless." The question of his home comes as a surprise to him, and he tries to come up with something to say.
"My home...it was not large, just a few rooms. Stone, all of it, our entire village was made out of quarried rock. It was very hot, warmer than this room is, hot enough that we could be uncomfortable in it. We lived in a desert, so there was sand, sandstorms could be hard to deal with at times, and people could get lost and die within them if caught unawares. We had little furniture, as we were poor. And to make matters worse...violence among feuding warlords made peace exceedingly rare."
With a sigh, Razer rubs his forehead. "And despite all that, when it quieted down, when the sounds of swords clashing against shields, and the cries of dying men were gone from the world, we were happy. It...was the happiest I have ever been..."
Feeling awkward with how much he'd revealed, Razer stands up. "Perhaps...perhaps I should find a room for myself now..."

It appeared that this was more of a war than anything that she had ever faced or would be willing to face.
It was not always the case that one side would have all the blame and Raven knew that both sides often thought that their cause was right. The world wasn't Black and White. Besides, Raven had also killed, yes when she was under her father's influence, but that did not excuse her. "It's a war and both sides believe what they are doing is right. There will almost always be consequences for following what you believe. One can never say that their cause is right, only argue it and support it. Death should not be the punishment for following what you consider the correct path. Nor should death be he punishment for death. Everyone can change their ways." |
Her words were deliberately made so that she did not seem to support the Green Lanterns or Red Lanterns. From what she had seen of Razer, he seemed like a perfectly fine ally to have on one's side, but maybe the Red Lanterns in general were very different. And maybe the Green Lanterns had members who would be offensive and not one to want to work with. It was a hard code to stick by, but Raven intended to not make judgments based off what team someone was in and even to be able to try and disregard past actions and pay more attention to the present. Because, in truth, she could not be one to judge. Taking a drink of tea once more, Raven noted a slight hint of anger in Razer but it disappeared quickly and she dismissed it as a memory. "That sounds rather excessive, though with the circumstances you were placed in, perhaps not. In any case, the effect was positive in your case...and not so easily adapted to mine. I suppose there won't be some easy way to control I could learn from you, with the differences in our situations."The Titan did not view her training as excessive. If anything it was not enough. Emotions had slipped into her life and Raven was aware that at times she desired to be able to feel emotions like others. But that in itself was an emotion and she could not allow it longer than a fleeting moment. "I can teach you what the monks taught me. I have actions that I must perform to keep my emotions under control. I cannot guarantee any success but I am willing to teach you what I know if you wish to learn how to control your emotions." Raven said, sensing his disappointment. However, there was more that he should know. "But the methods I know are to filter out all emotions. I would not recommend it. To live life without emotions if difficult. Even I have been unable to master it completely. If I could, I would prefer to live a life where I can feel emotions freely." Her voice almost sounded as if it had regret in it as she spoke. There where many emotions that Raven was denied. She could not hope for the future, nor could she have the will to win a battle or allow herself to feel fear in the face of death. Whether the emotion was good or bad made no difference. Talking about Razer's emotions was easier for the empath than considering her lack of them. "I...it is not your fault. Just don't compliment me so much, I don't deserve them, and words without meaning are worthless." Raven did not think that they were without meaning but she gave a nod to show her understanding and allowed the topic to move onto that of Razer's home. And to make matters worse...violence among feuding warlords made peace exceedingly rare."Listening, the teenager tried to imagine what it would be like. She had visited her fair share of deserts and civilisations that had made their homes there. But Raven had not had to experience living in the desert of having a lack of peace. Considering this, it made more sense as to why Razer was not so keen to fight without killing those who opposed him. In a place where fighting (presumably to the death) was common, it would not be considered wrong as it was for Raven who had been raised in a place were violence (even to save a life) was considered wrong. "And despite all that, when it quieted down, when the sounds of swords clashing against shields, and the cries of dying men were gone from the world, we were happy. It...was the happiest I have ever been..."Nodding, Raven gave a smile was he said how it was the happiest he had been. But it sounded final. Then again, from what she heard, Razer expected to be stuck on Earth for some time. "Well, they say home is where the heart lies." The Titan commented. "Do you think you will return to your home any time soon?" Although she wasn't sure, Raven thought that he probably had family still alive there, after all, he had said 'we were happy' and most people had family, as far as Raven was aware. Although she suspected that she may not get an answer as she knew that Razer felt awkward as he stood up and Raven placed her cup of tea down. "Perhaps...perhaps I should find a room for myself now..." Nodding, the Titan stood up as well. "If you follow me I'll show you the rooms that are closest to the Living Room and have a window which shall allow you to come and go." Raven said, making sure that she remembered all the specifications. All the rooms should be able to produce the temperature that the Living Room was set at.[/style] tags:Razer word count: ??? muse: Various notes: None Table Layout By BRY, 2012[/style]

Raven's explanation had merit to it, Razer had to admit. He disagreed on her belief that the punishment for death was death...but his disagreement on that matter was already known between them, and it would serve no purpose just to bring that up again. In any case, it showed a remarkable conciliatory spirit, and in that case, he could only nod. She obviously had a high opinion of Sinestro...he considered that Sinestro probably didn't act quite as sadistic around the average person, only someone he had power over, and was perfectly justified in his actions.
"If you believe that what you say is the truth, I will not attempt to dissuade you. I agree on several counts, in fact, and I appreciate your attempts at diplomacy. However...people only change when the outside world forces them to. People believe they're doing the best thing possible at all times...anyone besides that would be a fool. When there is a change, when it is obvious that the world will not accept their behavior, that is when they will change, not because of inward enlightenment."
As much as he wanted to believe her words, he did not believe that death was an unfit punishment for death, nor that people could change on their own. His life was too affected by circumstance for him to accept otherwise. Perhaps he was running away from responsibility, but it made him feel more justified in his actions. Everything since he had the ring on his finger felt like he was acting out what he had to do in his situation, and the events that led up to that were painfully out of his control, to the point where the anger that his life could be ruined so easily was what drove him to the ring. He couldn't stand having others dictate how everything could be taken from him in a blink of an eye.
Drinking some more of the tea, Razer tried some milk, finding it rather distasteful. It masked too much of the flavor from the tea. The sugar enhanced it, however, so he used more of that. However, he needs to stop drinking, as soon as he hears that Raven can indeed teach her how to control her emotions as she can. "Please! I...I would be very grateful for the assistance." However, as soon as the explanation came to pass, Razer's slight hope died down. "Ah. Indeed...I cannot use such training. As much as an emotionless existence appeals to me on occasion, without emotion, I cannot use my rage, cannot justify my existence. I thank you for the thought, though."
If he didn't have emotion...he wouldn't feel pain at his loss, grief would not be a part of him. But if he did, the Red Ring would surely leave him, render him powerless...bring him back to the point where he had nothing. The thought of such an existence is repugnant to him, living life as a civilian again, being weak and able to be controlled by those who are strong, instead of being strong and bringing judgment himself.
As he spoke, he felt memories returning to him, feeling the memories of the time he spent in his home, with Ilana, and with the other people that lived in his village. It was poor, in his time traveling the galaxy, he had seen a great number of places that put his home to shame. He didn't like remembering, though. It made coming back to the present painful.
Raven's words, however, got to him. Sure, she couldn't have known. Sure, she probably didn't mean to dredge up pain. And in all likelihood, she just wanted to cheer him up. But being asked if he will ever go back to something that can never be again hurts him deeply. He would give anything to be back. "No. I will not. And if you knew about what causes one to become a Red Lantern, you would understand why that is the case."
He had originally asked to find a room as a way to get away from Raven, who despite only meaning to help, made him feel open and insecure. He did not want to feel that way...he thought his memories and his pain was locked away tighter than how available it obviously was. Then again, to feel rage over something, it has to be kept close to his heart, no matter how much suppression exists. That desire to be by himself only grew, but Raven had insisted on showing him the way. Nodding, he follows her...she could tell how much he could take without blowing up...perhaps this was merely training to see how much he could hold himself back.
"Lead the way, then, if you must."

[atrb=border,0,true][style=width:430; height:490; background-color:000000; padding:5; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:11px; color:78747F; overflow:auto][style=float:left; margin-right:10px] Remembering her past was not something that Raven preferred to do, but it always seemed to haunt her. Even as they spoke about death she remembered the death that she had created and she regretted her actions.
Nodding, Raven wondered whether Pride could ever change. Did Raven ever agree with killing. Even as she considered this, the Titan was aware that she would support her death if ever she did loose herself and could not be returned. But that was not going to be something she would mention. The teenager did not want to put worry on Razer's mind and maybe the ethical and moral conversation would be best put to rest. Everyone had their views and while it was interesting to learn of them, Raven did not want to press her opinion on anyone. She remained silent and took a sip of tea as she considered the thoughts within her own mind.
As the topic of teaching Razer how to control his emotions came up, Raven was interested in how he would respond. "Please! I...I would be very grateful for the assistance." As he spoke, Raven felt hope flare up in him and the Titan closed her eyes slightly as she took in the emotion and felt it die with her explanation. To destroy such a positive emotion could be considered crime. "Ah. Indeed...I cannot use such training. As much as an emotionless existence appeals to me on occasion, without emotion, I cannot use my rage, cannot justify my existence. I thank you for the thought, though."
Thinking about this, Raven went over all the many different methods she had for controlling emotion. There had to be a way. "I think that I may be able to apply some of the methods for controlling emotions in a certain situation. It really depends how and when you want the emotions controlled." |
Raven honestly did want to help, even though she did not think it was good for those who could feel to control their emotions. But if it gave Razer hope to learn, then she would do her best to adapt her knowledge. The talk about Razer's home made the teenager smile, she knew that many loved their home and nothing would be able to replace them. But as she asked about whether he intended to return, Raven felt his pain and the Titan frowned. Emotional pain could be worse than physical pain; the empath knew this. "No. I will not. And if you knew about what causes one to become a Red Lantern, you would understand why that is the case." Thinking about the grief and Razer's words about the fighting, she wondered if the planet had torn itself apart and if Razer had lost the people that he knew and loved. "If you ever need to talk about anything, I am open. But I understand if you wish to keep things to yourself." She offered softly. As Razer spoke about finding a room, Raven got up and walked towards the door, she turned back to look at Razer to see if he was following. "Lead the way, then, if you must." Raven nodded, opening the door which allowed some colder air to blow in. It was cool and relieving to Raven but she suspected it would not be for Razer and so she quickly turned on the heaters in the corridor so that Razer should not feel too much discomfort. With that, she walked towards the nearest room to the living room, checking to make sure that Razer was following. Seeing Raven drop the conversation on morality, Razer does as well. He isn't naive enough to believe that he has shifted her opinion on the issue, and he believes she views it the same way. It is good he is able to understand her beliefs...and the fact that she was raised completely differently from him makes her pacifism seem less unreasonable. And her ideal, that people can change...it seems to draw itself from her experiences, just like his own ideals drew from his. In all likelihood, neither was the correct one...they just found what adapted themselves best to their situation. And with that in common, he could easily respect Raven's beliefs, even when they collided with his own.
As he allowed the slight hope of easier control over anger die away, Raven's words let a small coal keep smoldering. "I...do not know how successful that might be, but I will listen to what you have to say. It is appreciated, thank you." He wasn't sure if it could work at all, her training was meant to work in removing emotion, not containing it like he was trying to do. But to ignore the words of someone who had control was to be a fool, especially when they weren't nearly as antagonistic and far more helpful than his other teacher was.
Raven's words made it all the more clear that she meant no ill will with her words, and Razer forced the fires of anger to die down within him. She did not antagonize him with the knowledge...she merely asked a question. But that didn't make the pain feel any less horrible. Her offer, though similar to the one back inside the cave, helped him calm down back to normal, and for that, he was appreciative.
"Your offer...is welcomed. Thank you for not pushing the issue. If I feel that it is relevant...or that it would be helpful in a situation to let things out, you will be the first to know."
More than that, he couldn't promise. he didn't want his personal life to be common knowledge...the loss he sustained still hurt, and he didn't want people to pity him for it, as it would be wasted sympathy, and would only rub salt within a festering wound. And while Raven seemed trustworthy enough to be respectful with the knowledge, it felt safest to him to keep his secrets locked away inside of him.
As Razer follows Raven to where he could find his new room, the doors leading outside of the main room open. Walking through them, Razer can feel the air outside the room cool rapidly, quickly becoming a more standard temperature for San Francisco. Shivering slightly, Razer projects a red force field around his body, quickly heating him back up to his preferred temperature. Under normal circumstances, with his Power Battery in hand, heating would be a non-issue. However, with it in Sinestro's hands, the chance to dispel the field comfortably was a welcome relief to the alien, and his ring's flagging reserves.
Looking inside the room that Raven pointed out to him, Razer found it fine enough. There was a bed, a desk, nothing fancy, just basics. And still more than he ever expected to have in his life. The room led off into another, probably to be used for toiletries, and it had some appliances, including a computer and a wall clock. The window to the end was open, allowing a cool breeze to waft in. Razer was thankful he hadn't dispelled the force field.
"This room seems to be acceptable. It looks to be more than I believe I will need, and it is certainly nothing to complain about. Your hospitality is appreciated."
He doesn't want to bother looking for other rooms, it would merely be a waste of time. So long as it had a bed and a window, it was more than enough for him.

[atrb=border,0,true][style=width:430; height:490; background-color:000000; padding:5; text-align:justify; font-family:verdana; font-size:11px; color:78747F; overflow:auto][style=float:left; margin-right:10px] Controlling emotions was something that took time to master and Raven did not consider that she was in full control of them as it was. She just managed to avoid feeling them most of the time. It wasn't really control but it did mean she had some techniques for coping emotion during tough situations. "I...do not know how successful that might be, but I will listen to what you have to say. It is appreciated, thank you." The Titan thought about the emotions and which techniques would be helpful. "I know of techniques that help in sudden situations. They have shown to be useful. It is mostly centered around meditation." |
She informed him. The talk about Razer's home made Raven think about how she was fortunate enough to have her own home to which she could return. Sure those she came to view as her family were not here but she still could try and bring them back together. It did cross Raven's mind that Azarath was where she was born and raised but it was now destroyed. "Your offer...is welcomed. Thank you for not pushing the issue. If I feel that it is relevant...or that it would be helpful in a situation to let things out, you will be the first to know." There was not much that the empath could say in reply to this, she did know how it felt. One of the advantages of being an empath. Leading the way to the first room, the teenager didn't bother to glance over the room; she had seen plenty of empty rooms in the Tower before, this one was no different. Indigo eyes flickered across the room before looking to Razer and watching his response. "This room seems to be acceptable. It looks to be more than I believe I will need, and it is certainly nothing to complain about. Your hospitality is appreciated." Noticing the colder temperature, Raven decided she might as well explain the heating. Walking over to the thermostat, the Titan gestured to it. "You can use this to increase the temperature. Just close the window when after entering or leaving via the window." Raven suggested, looking out the window and at the city. After that she paused and thought about the room and Razer. It was possible that he wanted some time to himself, she supposed. "If you want some time to yourself, I understand." The teenager said, turning to look at Razer. "The computer should have a map of the Tower on it but if you would prefer I could show you around the rest of the Tower." She offered, thinking about what else she should offer Razer. It had been a long time since she had played host and more often than not it was one of the other Titans who was dealing with it.
